Cropping the image to the paper allows use of standard frame sizes with even matting on every edge. -Adam Bob W wrote: > I've never understood this, so maybe somebody could enlighten me. Of course, you could always buy frames in different shapes. Man, you got something against standardization? Next you will be saying it is OK to shoot square images, or something. If God had meant for us to produce anything but 4x6 prints he would not have invented the minilab. -- graywolf http://www.graywolfphoto.com http://webpages.charter.net/graywolf "Idiot Proof" <==> "Expert Proof" --- Aaron Reynolds wrote: > On Aug 16, 2006, at 2:38 PM, Bob W wrote: > >> To my mind it's a brain-upside-down way of thinking, but I've heard >> and read it so often that perhaps it's me that's got something wrong. >> Cut the paper to fit the image! > > It's upside down to me, too. > > -Aaron > -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net

I have done this from my first days with inkjet. I bought a Dahl rotary trimmer (cuts up to A3) for fifty quid in 1999 and haven't looked back. One of the best investments I ever made - and still going strong on the original blade! George Eastman seems to have agreed with you, at least his first roll-film camera shot round images. -- graywolf http://www.graywolfphoto.com http://webpages.charter.net/graywolf "Idiot Proof" <==> "Expert Proof" --- David Mann wrote: > On Aug 17, 2006, at 9:50 AM, graywolf wrote: > >> Next you will be saying it is OK to shoot square images, or something. > > I think we should all shoot round images, to take full advantage of > the lens image circle. > > - Dave > > -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net

I print on roll paper. The printer's auto-trimmer attachment takes care of the cutting. It is a pain having to de-curl the paper, but that's something I can live with. - Dave (it's about time I printed some more pans) -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net

I've found a source for Ilford Galerie Smooth Gloss for about 25% less than I can get it anywhere on line. I print to fit that and find frames and mats to match. But then I'm a Yankee, (read cheap).
