I don't think I can figure out any numbering system about Pentax, as I think there is not one. I just think that Pentax picks number lots here and there, as they need them. By comparing lots showing up with *ist D production run, you can see that they are spread far more then necessary. However, I was hoping to guess if certain *ist D lots can perform better than others and, in case, which are older and which newer. Don't take for granted that higher figures mean newer cameras. It was only true 1952 to 1960, or the like. Then, it's a mess. Of course, within the same lot, it can be true that the higher the number the newer the camera. Those tested came from the Italian importer. Mine was shipped by the importer to the dealer upon my request of buying one. If older, it was old stock of Italian importer. My survey is to understand which numbers are older (not sure the lower the older :-).
