Currently the operation isn't run in background, the result is that you
can try to navigate but you will probably not get anywere until the

I can see two possibilities here:
1. The contents of the menus in the flat structure should change when
you change the library.
2. A possibility to hide complete menus based on which library that is
active, in the same way as menus can be included/excluded based on
player(SqueezeBox) today.

I thought about this a bit more, and I think it would be a good idea to
be able to select which builtin menus that should be created when
creating a library.
After adding this I think it might be quite easy to also make it
possible to select which of the menus available through Custom Browse
that should be created. It wouldn't work for menus where you have
choosen to customize the menu xml yourself, but

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Re: Announce: Multi Library plugin

2007-01-17 Thread erland

A new version 1.1 of the Multi Library plugin is now available, the new
functionallity and changes are:
- Automatically refresh Custom Browse menu when changing a library
definition
- Added a "menu group" parameter making it possible to put the library
menus in a group, for example "Libraries/XXX Music" instead of "XXX
Music"
- Corrected bug in include/exclude player parameters that were lost if
you edit a library menu in Custom Browse
- Corrected so non ascii characters works in Directory parameters
- Automatically assign a free filename when creating a new library
- Added check to make sure filename doesn't contain any unsupported
characters

NOTE 1
You need at least Custom Browse 1.17, earlier versions won't work.

NOTE 2
It has only been tested on slimserver 6.5.* and probably doesn't work
on any previous slimserver version.

The new version is available at my 'download page'
(http://erland.homeip.net/download) as usual.

The current wish/todo list for new features in comming Multi Library
releases can be found here:
http://erland.homeip.net/issuetracking/do/guest/home?application=slimserver-multilibrary

If anyone have more feature requests or if I have missed some feature
you already have requested which hasn't been implemented, please let me
know. Also please note that it is a wish list and not a release plan, so
some features on this list may never be implemented.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Re: ir blaster question

2007-01-17 Thread fcm4711

Hi ddewey

Thanks. :) Happy to hear it's useful.

You are correct in that the 'test' buttons and pressing a button on the
remote are sending the same codes.

However there is a small difference: The 'test' button sends the code
once whereas pressing a remote button might cause IR blaster to repeat
the code, since the remote starts repeating itself, espeacially for
volume up and down.

So my question is if you are using the remote does the volume change at
all? Meaning does it at least change one step?

Could you post the learned codes? Sometimes it needs some manual
tweaking to make it work properly.

Cheers
Felix

Delays may not be the whole answer but first yiou need to confirm if
this is indeed the problem.

Without stopping or rebooting OSX, stop and restart slimserver and then

Thanks. It also didn't seem to like spaces in the filename, but hopefully that
won't matter if that is transparent to the user.

Yes, indeed it does seem fast, although I wait until disk activity has finished
before attempting to move from the page. Is it safe to navigate around whilst
it's refreshing? I assume so (like rescan music library).

I think there's several possibilities:

1) Within Custom Browse, list all custom browse methods and each library.
[Current functionality].
2) Within Custom Browse, list all custom browse methods plus a Libraries menu
which contains a list of the libraries, and then within each library have a
list of browse methods.
3) Within Custom Browse, list all custom browse methods and "Active Library".
4) List each library outside of Custom Browse, ie on the main menu.
5) Custom Browse menus would work against the currently selected library.

I can see that all these situations could be common requests.

In my situation, I currently leave the original browse menus in place, and just
use Custom Browse for extra browse methods.

The menus inside "Custom Browse" apply to the whole music library, where as
menus within a library will be the same as the custom browse menus, but will
apply to a sub-set of the whole library. I was thinking of renaming "Custom
Browse"->"All Music".

So I would have:
All Music ->
Albums ->
Artists ->
Genres ->
Dynamic Playlists ->
Phil's Music ->
Albums ->
Artists ->
Genres ->
Dynamic Playlists ->
Alex's Music ->
Albums ->
Artists ->
Genres ->
Dynamic Playlists ->

etc. This could be achieved also by creating a dummy "All Music" library with
no filtering, so it always contains all music.

Maybe multiple library plugin should come with a built-in "All Music" library
(pre-configured, not editable/deleteable, the default activated library).

>I also have an idea that it should be an alternative to just have a
>flat menu structure with Albums, Artists, Genres (and the rest) and
>selecting which tracks that should be shown in them by activating a
>specific library.
>
That's another nice way for it to work; although I would see this as a better
fit for multi-user setup (where each user could be configured to see different
allowed libraries/activated library). A Change User menu option could switch
over to a different configuration, preferably picking up other settings, such
as scrobbler user, etc. eg. Another issue I have is with TrackStat - me and my
wife have separate iTunes libraries, so I can only configure one iTunes library
into the settings.

Like you say, libraries may be configured with different browse methods. With
a flat menu structure, would the menu options change depending on the activated
library? My wife may get confused, having to navigate to find a menu to select
the library to activate, and then navigate to find music to play. At the
moment, I get her to use the old Custom Browse->Libraries menu, or use Browse
Music Folder, so she can find her music under "Alex's Music".

Perhaps an option would be to have an option to hook into the Power-On event.
It would ask you to select a library to activate. The default would be the
last used library. Pressing play from stand-by would bypass the library
selection and just resume playback. Better still would be for this to select a
user.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Re: mac os problem

2007-01-17 Thread bpa

OK - the other part of the problem setup was that slimserver is
installed to start up when OSX starts up. If your slimserver is also
set to start when PSX starts - the following is what happens

1. OSX starts up and starts up networking
2. Slimserver starts and lookups up the DNS servers. Wireless
sometimes takes a while to get set up so DNS has not been set up when
Slimserver looks for DNS.
3. Wireless LAN setup completes and DNS works.
4. Slimserver runs but thinks DNS is not configured.

Test to check if this is your problem:
Stop and restart slimserver and retest AlienBBC

Solution if above "fixes the problem": Put in a delay before startup of
slimserver.

So problem solved.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] ir blaster question

2007-01-17 Thread Dave Dewey

I have 2 setups using the awesome IR Blaster plugin. Bedroom setup works
perfectly.

Kitchen setup is exhibiting an odd behavior. There was no code for the
remote on lirc.com, so I used the 'learning mode,' same as I did in the
bedroom.

The 'test' buttons in the learning interface work fine. Using the remote,
the on/off button works fine to turn the receiver (a cheapish Yamaha) on and
off. However, the volume up/down buttons on the Slim remote don't work,
even though the 'test' buttons DO work perfectly. Seems to me both of these
actions (pushing the 'test' button and pushing volume up on the remote)
should send the same codes? Am I missing something? Running SS version
6.5.1 - 10811 on Fedora Core 4.

Short burst of silence are usually an indication that the BBC dropped

possibly when BBC is doing something to their network / server farm -
so no problems can be heard for a while and then for a few weeks the

The fact that your problem also occurred on RealPlayer makes me believe
that this is the problem and it is not necessarily PCI related.

That said, I know that mplayer has provoked strange network interface
problems on Windows on what seems to be perfect working interfaces.
These problems were cured by an updated network drivers - you may have
come across the same sort of problem only in the the Linux environment
as I think in Windows it is the driver may set up the PCI data.

That was a bit sparse of me, apologies. I had been getting the short
burst of silence but streams continue. This was particularly noticable
on BBC radio London Live via RealPlayer, but also Radio 4 live FM (via
RP). I've got a SB3 wired. Hopefully the following won't lose
everybody:
mplayer -v = MPlayer 1.0rc1-4.1.2 (C) 2000-2006 MPlayer Team
CPU: Intel(R) Xeon(TM) CPU 3.40GHz (Family: 15, Model: 4, Stepping: 1)
CPUflags: MMX: 1 MMX2: 1 3DNow: 0 3DNow2: 0 SSE: 1 SSE2: 1
Compiled with runtime CPU detection.

So you can see this is not an underpowered system (its a dev box)

I had tried everything suggested in these forums re changing from flac
to mp3 etc, testing the network connection and so on. Everything else
works flawlessly. After shuffling the PCI cards to get them on
different IRQs and tweaking the PCI latency timings on an AMD Athlon 64
box which serves MythTV I thought I might as well have a go on the Intel
box running SS. However, it has onboard sound (intel) and onboard
Broadcom Corporation NetXtreme BCM5751 Gigabit Ethernet PCI Express so
no physical shuffling there. I simply changed the PCI latency timing in
bios to 128 from the default 32. This option isn't available on all
motherboards but is easily set from the cmd line in Linux (I haven't a
clue what is done in the Windows world).

Anyway, the end result is dropout-free Radio London & Radio 4 which is
cool.

RE: [SlimDevices: Plugins] SlimScrobbler programming question

2007-01-17 Thread Craig, James (IT)
Hi erland,
I believe there's a function exposed to change accounts but it just
cycles through them and does not allow a specific one to be chosen.
I don't think there's a very good entry point to do this anywhere else
in the code either, as most of the functions use the position of the
account in an internal array as the parameter rather than the account
name!

I'll see if I can make this a bit easier...

[SlimDevices: Plugins] SlimScrobbler programming question

2007-01-17 Thread erland

Is there any way for another plugin to change the currently active
SlimScrobbler account for submitting track info ?

A CLI command, function I could call or something similar ?

I like to change the active Scrobbler account when the user activates
another library in the Multi Library plugin.

of how it works.

Example 1:
- Your main slimserver library music files are in the directory: D:\My
Music
- You like to create a sub library in the Multi Library plugin that
just contains the music in the directory: D:\My Music\Good Music
1. Goto Multi Library in the web interface
2. Click "create new library" link
3. Select library type "Standard library" (which is the only one that
currently exist)
4. Change the "Library name" parameter to something you like, lets call
it "Good Music"
5. Change the "Directory 1" parameter to "D:\My Music\Good Music"
6. Click Next
7. Change the filename to something only containing ascii characters
and no spaces, like: goodmusic.ml.values.xml
8. Click Save
9. You might need to click the "Refresh" button in the bottom of the
Custom Browse web interface to get the menu to show up. After this you
should have a new "Good Music" menu that only contains information
about music files in "D:\My Music\Good Music"

Example 2:
- You like to create a sub library that only contain "Pop" music
1. Goto Multi Library in the web interface
2. Click "create new library" link
3. Select library type "Standard library" (which is the only one that
currently exist)
4. Change the "Library name" parameter to something you like, lets call
it "Pop Music"
5. Check the "Pop" checkbox for the "Include genres" parameter
6. Click Next
7. Change the filename to something only containing ascii characters
and no spaces, like: popmusic.ml.values.xml
8. Click Save
9. You might need to click the "Refresh" button in the bottom of the
Custom Browse web interface to get the menu to show up. After this you
should have a new "Pop Music" menu that only contains information about
music files that belongs to the "Pop" genre

Example 3:
- Your main slimserver library music files are in the directory: D:\My
Music
- You like to create a sub library in the Multi Library plugin that
just contains the music in the directory: D:\My Music\Good Music.
Besides this you like it to ignore music files that belongs to the
"Christmas" genre.
1. Goto Multi Library in the web interface
2. Click "create new library" link
3. Select library type "Standard library" (which is the only one that
currently exist)
4. Change the "Library name" parameter to something you like, lets call
it "Good Non Christmas Music"
5. Change the "Directory 1" parameter to "D:\My Music\Good Music"
6. Check the "Christmas" checkbox for the "Exclude genres" parameter
7. Click Next
8. Change the filename to something only containing ascii characters
and no spaces, like: goodnonchristmas.ml.values.xml
9. Click Save
10. You might need to click the "Refresh" button in the bottom of the
Custom Browse web interface to get the menu to show up. After this you
should have a new "Good Non Christmas Music" menu that only contains
information about music files in "D:\My Music\Good Music"

Did these samples solve your problem ?
If you still have problem could you maybe explain exactly how you like
to create your library ?

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Re: mac os problem

2007-01-17 Thread bpa

Enable debug options d_source and d_plugins (Server Settings/ Debugging)
and open debug window - then select a BBC station.

Copy and post the log of the debug messages.

When you say Alien works with other station - does it work with other
RealAudio stations such as NPR ?

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Alarm Playlist and Repeat Mode

2007-01-17 Thread coofercat

I'm sure a plugin could do this, but instead I've patched the Slimserver
source to add in a modest extra bit of alarm functionality.

With this patch applied, you get two extra alarm settings: Alarm
Shuffle and Alarm Repeat. Setting these works much the same way as
alarm volume; when the alarm occurs, the Squeezebox is set with these
values.

In laymans terms, this means that you can fiddle with your squeezebox
however you like. When the alarm fires, the volume, shuffle and repeat
settings will be changed to however they're configured in the alarm
settings.

This is a poor-man's implementation of per-playlist shuffle and repeat
settings. I have no idea how that could be implemented, but I like my
morning wake up in shuffle, and my getting dressed albums as the artist
intended. This patch does that ;-)

More info: http://www.coofercat.com/wiki/SlimServerAlarmPlaylistMode
(possibly more up to date than here too)

Otherwise, see the attached patch files.

Morning. Multi Library is great! Thanks.

One issue... When creating Libraries, both Standard and Standard with
Options include the Genre checkboxes. I assume this isn't what you
intended. It is problematic for me because I have alot of genres to
checkmark.

Cheers,
David

It probably got broken when moving to the tabbed library.. I'll get it

Weird, not seen that before.. Can you repeat it, or do you know what
coverart it was displaying when it happened ? Looks like you were resizing
the now playing window at the time.. Maybe there's an issue if you're
resizing during a song-change or something ?

I'll have a play this evening..

Hi Christian,

Really interested in this plugin. Don't have Nuvo but have something
similar with an RS232 interface. To be able to do basic functions such
as select source (ie Squeezebox), zone select, volume up/down etc would
be fantastic.

Not seeing any crashes here and I have been using it extensively over

The return key isn't working though, I used to be able to press return

Other than that everything is great, thanks for all the changes and for
the ability to change the font size. It looks great now.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Re: Alien BBC & PCI latency

2007-01-17 Thread bpa

Could you provide a little more details on your configuration and the
problem so that the problem and cure can be characterised and hopefully
explained.

What do you mean by droppouts - typically AlienBBC problems are either
one of below depending on the source of the problem.
- short burst of silence but streams continues
or
- longer gaps of silence, followed by stuttering and stream restarts

Were you sending the BBC streams in Flac to the SB ?
If Flac, did you get dropouts when streaming Flac files to SB ?
Is the SB wired or wireless ?
What version of mplayer are you using ?

What values of the PCI timing did you use ?
Assuming your PC is wired to the router - Is your Ethernet interface
onboard or a separate PCI card ?
If it is onboard what is the motherboard or PC model ?
