Re: powermail-discuss Digest #2300 - 01/10/06
Sad to say after using the PM maintenance procedures twice I still got a data base error causing me to restart PM. I've started using Mac's Mail instead of PM on one of the computers I use. At least it seems very stable. Data Base Errors
Recently, I am often - more than once a day - getting database errors forcing me to quit PowerMail and restart. This is on two machines. Compacting the database does not help. Where could my problem be? I don't recall getting this before Tiger. OS 10.4.3 PM 5.2.2 Thank you for any advice. Dan
PM quitting
I'm getting PM quits regularly when I try to send mail with attachments. This is new and I cannot figure out what is going on. I've sent a report to PM, but so far no response. I'm running OS 10.4.3 and P.M 5.2.1 on a G4. PM often crashing
PM is very often quitting unexpectedly. The conditions are not always the same. This is on one computer of two running practically identical software. The software quits on a G4 Tower, but is not quitting on an iMac G4. The G4 is in my residence and the iMac in the office. Both are using the same university campus server. Version: PowerMail version 5.2.1 build 4397 (5.2.1) SpamSieve 2.3.2 OS 10.4.2 Any suggestions?? Dan
Searching in Replaced Database
I had to erase my main drive due to problems unrelated to PowerMail. Re- installing PowerMail in the new setup I copied over the PM Database from a backup disk. Now, I cannot search this database. Any suggestions? Using 10.4.1 and PM 5.2. Thank you, Dan

I cannot seem to keep my settings, addresses, email boxes, etc. when installing 5.2b3. I've gone back to 5.1 until I can find further instructions. Size of Font in HTML
I have not enabled the HTML reader, but about once or twice a day receive email that I have to open in HTML. Under the latest version of PM (5.1) the font size is very very large. Do others have this problem? And how can I have the HTML mail open in an ordinary size font? Thank you Dan
Re: powermail-discuss Digest #1865 - 07/12/04
On the issue of mail not going out. I have several times not noticed that this has happened since I do not keep my "Out" tray open. On the menu for prompting a send the "Send Waiting Messages" that is under the "Connection" menu is grey. Sometimes after a trip I've come home changed over to my desktop and then only on the next trip using my Powerbook I find that the mail was never sent. It is still sitting in the "Out" tray with the "yellow triangle." I would like to see some other kind of notification that mail does not go out than just the "yellow triangle." Dan Received from PowerMail discussions at 2:01 AM > What does the yellow Triangle with the "!" mean in Outr Tray mail?
Minimizing windows
I have a problem with windows minimizing by double clicking on them when the preview pane is open. I am not sure I am describing this properly. Here it is again - I usually have the preview pane open at the bottom of a window when I am viewing in the "Recent Mail" for example. If this preview pane is open double clicking on an email opens it quickly and then automatically minimizes it to the Dock. I have to go to the Dock and click on it there to open the email. I've tried every setting I can think of in the preferences for PM and in the System Preferences, but it does not solve this problem. Any ideas? Thank you. Dan G4 Tower with OS 10.3.4 and PM 5.0.1
Re: iPhoto cannot choose PM
I had already run the IPhoto Mailer Patcher version 2.0, but it still does not recognize PowerMail. I ran the Patcher again restoring iPhoto to its original state and then ran the Patcher again. Same problem. Any ideas? iPhoto cannot choose PM
I am using the new PM 5.0.1 along with iPhoto 4.0.1. I can no longer choose PM as the email application in iPhoto to be used when emailing pictures while using iPhoto. In the iPhoto preferences PM is grey and cannot be chosen. I've redone the permissions and restarted, but that does not help. Anybody know what happened? Dan
Blank email messages
I'm receiving two or three messages like the one below each day. This is the second time from this list. I suppose there is no connection with PM 5. Any ideas?? Everything else is going fine including the spam program, SpamSieve. I am quite happy with it and am surprised that others are having so many problems. Double clicking on the Title bar
I would also like very much to know how to disable the "double clicking title bar to minimize." I have not noticed it with other applications that I use. I get the same from clicking on the "Subject" in any window of PM and this is more annoying. Any ideas? Program suddenly slow and search in Address Book missing addresses
I'm using Beta 26 and suddenly the program is running very slow. I cannot find any particular reason for it. The search function in the Address book is acting up. It does not find many addresses that are there. Dan PowerMail discussions, Thu, Dec 4, 2003
Re: powermail-discuss Digest #1814 - 05/18/04
For what it is worth, I've used SpamSieve for quite some time and at least for me it is just as efficient with the recent betas of PM as before. I found that sometimes I had not followed the instructions well in setting it up for PM. Correcting my mistakes on this I consistently get at 97+ percent accuracy on over 200 emails a day. By far most of this mail is spam. This is the same on my personal computer and on the office computer. Toolbar problems
I sent this in an email to PowerMail a while back, but did not send it through the discussions list. I find the same problem persists in the latest beta and so send it again, but this time the proper way. I don't see that anyone on the list has brought this up. I use "Recent Mail" regularly. I leave it open at the bottom of the screen ordinarily. When this window is open in a larger size and I click on the green button to change size back to the smaller size it expands sending the toolbar to the top of the screen hiding the top of it behind the PowerMail menu bar. It is not possible then to click the green button (or red or yellow buttons) or place the cursor on the top margin to drag it down. I have to click the "Zoom Window" to retrieve the "Recent Mail" toolbar and then drag the window down. Hitting the Command and "W" will shrink the window back to the bottom of the screen, but not being able to do this with the mouse seems to be a bug. I have to add that sometimes this does not happen!! Or, am I doing something wrong? I did not encounter this with the pre- beta versions of PowerMail. Dan (Running OS 10.3.3 on a G4)
Screen re-draw problems
I've been using the beta version of PowerMail the past few weeks. I usually have the "Recent Mail" in a reduced size at the bottom of the screen. When I want to view it in an expanded size I hit the green button and the window expands as a blank page. It does not re-draw until I click on the top of the window where "Subject", etc. are supposed to be displayed. These are also not re-drawn until I click where one of them should be. Sometimes I have to click on this window more than once before a re-draw takes place. I never saw this on the non-beta version. Dan (Running OS 10.3.3 on an iMac G4)
Failed Mail
I have received occasional mail returned under the title "Returned mail: see transcript for details." Can anyone tell me how to access the transcript? Thanks, Dan -- Using OS X 10.2.6 on a G4 Tower 733 PowerMail is version 4.1.3 OS 9.2.2 is installed
PowerMail Scripts
I have downloaded a couple of new PowerMail scripts. While trying to place them in the proper folder I have found that I have two such folders, one under OS 9 and one under OS X. Although I am always running in OS X, I did not realize that at least some of my PowerMail files are under OS X and some under OS 9. I am not exactly sure what to do about this. Before I make a mess of things can someone put me straight? Thanks, Dan

Apostrophes = 1's
Why are apostrophes in some emails I receive changed to the number one? I've asked this before, but no one answered or I missed it. Thanks, Dan PM 4.1.2
Re: Strange Windows
Opps! I found that somehow I had changed a condition on a filter. It was my fault. The window comes up because I had somehow changed an "Action" in a filter to "execute script" and the script was "delete immediately." Strange window
I have suddenly, as of a couple of days ago, begun having a strange window appear on my desktop as mail is coming in. PowerMail stops retrieving mail until I cancel the window. I cannot figure out where this is coming from. The window reads: "The selected messages will be deleted immediately. They will not be put in the mail trash, and there is no undo available." There is a "cancel" and a "delete" button. What does this mean? I had not selected any messages. Dan
