Re: stepping down my involvement with Pro Tools accessibility

2013-09-19 Thread Gordon Kent
Hey Slau:
Well, I certainly can relate to your situation. I really haven't been nearly
as active with Cakewalk as I used to be. Fortunately, we have a choice of
several options now. THough none of them are perfect, they all have their good
points. I find myself switching between different daw software and screen
readers/operating systems depending on the situation. I hope that avid will
not forget us. They really haven't done much more with Sibelius since that
initial effort on the part of one of their former developers. And with the new
plug-in format of pro tools, we're losing something. I will say that my friend
up in Jersey who I do a lot of tracking for hates pt 11, and he's sighted. I
just wish I'd never gone to Mountain lion with the loss of numeric output in
so many places.
So thanks so much for what you've done, we wouldn't have it at all if it
weren't for what you've done. BTW, I have outspoken working quite well now on
my g3 with the synclavier software, though there doesn't seem to be a way to
have it automatically read highlighted text. I always have to hit option find
to see where I'm at, but that's not too bad.

Re: Just mountain lion! please give me advice?

2013-09-19 Thread Mike Lockett
Hey Scott,
Avid found some issues with the way they displayed certain items and it
Affects the way it reports them to the OS.

They are working with Apple to rectify this as we speak.

This release will be available in a few months according to them.
Here’s to looking up!!!

Hi, I would call Apple on the phone and be infront of the system if it
is possible as the more people like me that do call them and demo the
issue the more results we should get. I knew this issue was going to
happen with the newer systems as I have other sited friends who can't
 go
back to Lion as the hardware is not supported. I am not saying we are
not making progress but I think we all should do more on this issue
 such
as calling people like Apple on the phone and refreshing their minds on
these issues as if enough of us call and explain the issues they will
get resolved. I would also mention like I did that as Apple supports
education so much and as pro tools is used for audio engineering
students like me this is something they should really work on. Nick

Anyone using this surface and if so, how is the build, accessibility and

Hey Mike,

Interesting. I was under the impression that the big bug with Pro
Tools in ML was Apples to tackle, rather than Avid. Have I got that
wrong? Of course, that's not to detract from all the other stuff Avid
would need to tidy up to make PT 11 workable, but just wanted to be

Well, thanks for all you've done mate, and glad you're sticking about!

Folks,

For various reasons, I'm going to limit my future involvement regarding the
work of accessibility in Pro Tools. It's been a long ride and I've been
thinking about this for some time. I've managed to develop important
relationships with the folks at Avid and I'm pleased that we managed to get the
issue of accessibility onto a level of IL support just like other international
languages. It was a pivotal moment.

I feel I've done all I can do for now. Avid continues to be committed to the
end result of making Pro tools accessible and I have no doubt that the work
will continue. I've approached Rick Boggs about taking the reigns, so to speak.
The fact is, he's the one that started the whole ball rolling almost 20 years
ago when Digidesign first helped make Pro Tools accessible with outSPOKEN. Rick
is an excellent communicator and I think he'll be effective in continuing the
relationship that we've worked to build over the years. I encourage you all to
support him.

I'm obviously not disappearing. I'll still help whenever possible. I appreciate
those who have supported me throughout the years.

I'm leaving town for a few days to attend a family wedding but I'll be back
after the weekend. We'll be in touch.

Best,

slau

Hi Slau,

Thank you for the affords, You made. I have two questions:
1. How can we as community help Rick Boggs?
2. It's also interesting, how the current state of accessibility is. Are
there changes, that happened after your last mail, you wrote to the list?

Best wishes

Stefan

Actually, looking at it from that angle, I guess it's a pleasant
surprise that it took this long for the man to grind you down lol.

Thanks for everything man. Hopefully, we'll see the result of what you
set in motion before too long.
