Re: [QUAD-L] Seat Cushion
Hi Jay,I am so sorry. I have always had a high profile roho since after my first gel, which was 32 years ago, which I did not have very long , although it was not a jay. My wheelchair dealers let me try a Jay cushion when I was about to get a new cushion, and I was convinced. I preferred roho , after trying. Did they say it was caused by the gel, not giving enough support. I try to do a lot more weight shifts than I am supposed to do. That is certainly a good recommendation to get a roho. What kind of roho do you have? Dana . I used a Jay cushion, gel filled. I sat great in it, felt great. But about 2 years later, I had an mri on my hip. They noticed a large sore under my muscles on my butt. It hadn’t broken though yet. They sent me to a surgeon thinking they should drain it. The surgeon said don’t touch it. He made me get a Roho cushion. A year later they checked and it had healed up. Re: [QUAD-L] pressure mapping
This article is excellent! I take it you've had this done. What about the others? Sandy
Re: [QUAD-L] just like fingerprints
Primarily a rehab facility. Your SCI/D dr. can recommend one. An OT or PT perform the eval. As someone stated in another post make sure they demo alot of cushions for you. Check your local ILC as they may know. Sometimes a clinic dealing with other disabilities has a seating clinic. For example, a UCP or Developmental Disability Facility? - Original Message - From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] ; quad-list@eskimo.com Sent: Tuesday, August 29, 2006 2:49 PM Subject: Re: [QUAD-L] just like fingerprints In a message dated 8/29/2006 12:56:43 P.M. [QUAD-L] just like fingerprints
Everyone's butt is different!! I cannot emphasize that one cushion is better for one person may not be best for your own arse. Get pressure mapped. it's non-evasive. They put the cushions you are demo-ing on your current chair system (compare Current/jay/roho etc) place a computer cloth over the cushion plop your arse on it and watch the screen for blue/red images turns out my 100$ piece of 2 inch foam gives me more protection than a 700 dollar cushion. The advice one gives on the cushion that is best for them may give you a pressure ulcer. - Original Message - From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: quad-list@eskimo.com Sent: Tuesday, August 29, 2006 11:25 AM Subject: Re: [QUAD-L] Seat Cushion Based on what everyone said it sounds like air is the way to go as opposed to gel, foam, or sand.
