Floppies still have life in them regardless of what some idiot says, much like crt's but thats for another list. ;) This is true. I have roughly 2000 floppies (this is just 3.5 floppies) and very few have failed me. In fact, I check my Macs via floppies from CMS Enhancements, Inc, (only one of those disks claims to be bad but its for a machine I don't have anyway )Mac TV, LC 520, Color Classic)). Plus, floppies let me save stuff on the PCs at school and then bring it home with me. Its funny how eplw like to bitch yet I can find pages that work perfectly with MacWeb, NS, Icab and IE (looked at while at school as I refuse to have that piece of junk on my machines). The only issue I have is that NONE of the sites I have downloaded NS 4.08 (if thats the one after 4.05) have given me a copy that works (every one has crached my machine, a IIci with 7.5.5, 32M RAM and that nice cache card). Its Mystery Motherboard Time! (Also sent to the Quad list just in case) OK, was going through my Mac stuff and I came across this MB I want to ID. It has what I believe to be a 68040 CPU (as I said, its a guess here as the chip has some thingie on top of it thats kinda like a square of prongs pointing upwards). The board just says this for an ID: 820-0380-A Apple Computer, Inc. C. 1992 It has 2 slots (72 pin?) for Video Ram SIMMS, 3 expansion slots (one has a Modem Mac II card in it), 4 DRAM SIMM connector slots and a black slot (J18) that has no ID marks, and the usual floppy connector and SCSI connector. What are the two white connectors (J17 and J11) used for? Also, what is J8 used for (its on the back)? I'd like to thank all of you who sent suggestions for my mother's Quadra 840AV. What I found is that if it is left unplugged for a couple of days, it does take longer to boot up than if it is left plugged in, but shut down. It takes longer to boot up from a plugged-in shut-down than a restart, but at least we know it will eventually come up and isn't dying. The PRAM reset didn't solve the behavior. I did find an old copy of TechTool v2 and installed that -- it found only finder date problems. So -- Mom will continue to use the Quadra until I get a new G4, then she'll inherit my G3. She needs something faster, as she is encountering such slow web-surfing as to really frustrate her. Thanks again, Deb And then what will be the fate of that Quadra?
