Hi,

There are a couple ways to do it. In qubes manager there should be a
button at the top with a plus sign. Or select in the menu VM -> create
new VM. At least this is true in 3.2. I know qubes manager is different
in 4.0 so maybe these options have been changed or removed?

Anyways you can also do it on command line with qvm-create.

2018-12-02 Thread Franz
Suddenly win7 VM stopped starting on Qubes 3.2. Nothing changed except
perhaps the last couple of dom0 updates.

The error message is:
cannot connect to 'win7' qrexec agent for 300 seconds, giving up

I tried debug mode, but it is just the same.

Ah, still needs to turn on the Thunderbolt assist on as well.

I have integrated graphics on my x220 and have the same issue disabling
"Power management enabled" fixes it but then I don't get a

Just updated the bios to 1.34 (N23ET59W) on a 6th gen X1. Set Sleep State to
"Linux" and the laptop still does not wake up when the lid is closed and
re-opened. Running 4.14.74-1.

Do I still need to downgrade the kernel and patch? It sounded like the bios
update would be enough.

[qubes-users] Decrypting and mounting a partition while qube starts

2018-12-02 Thread mike
Hi All,

For one of my qubes I need a specific partition to be mounted during its start.
I want it automatically attached to the qube and decrypted and mounted during
its boot.
The first task (attaching) is quite easy, although I am not sure how to do
"cryptsetup open" it during boot.

Also, what would be easier solution: to decrypt the partition in dom0 and
attach the decrypted partition to the qube, or to attach encrypted partition
and decrypt in the qube?
Any idea how I can handle it in the most seamless way?

Thanks!
Mike

You are right, the issue was due to missing `qvm-prefs android kernel ''`.

Everything works fine now, if we can call fine inability to change screen
resolution, absence of sound and file exchange and semi-defunct mouse.

On 12/2/18 5:08 PM, Roy Bernat wrote:

Depends on how you want to use it: in many VMs or in only one ?

If it's in only one, simply install the package to your home folder. Eg.:

pip install --user awscli

The files will then be installed
$HOME/.local/lib/pythonX.Y/site-packages/ ; that's assuming you have
internet access from this VM.

Now, if you want to use the package in many VMs that are based on a
given templateVM, you'll first have to download the required files in a
VM that has internet access, copy them to the templateVM, and install
them from the copied files.

eg.

in a VM - say 'dispvm1234'

mkdir awscli
pip download awscli -d awscli
qvm-copy awscli

in the templateVM

cd ~/QubesIncoming/dispvm1234/awscli
sudo pip install awscli-[..].whl -f ./ --no-index

You should see your device in the output of `lspci` in dom0

For instance:

02:00.0 Unassigned class [ff00]: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTS5227
PCI Express Card Reader (rev 01)

On my setup this device is assigned to sys-usb. I can mount the SD card
there ; attaching it to another VM with the help of the device tray
works well too.

Your reader may also not work because:
- it's disabled in your bios
- your laptop's too recent and it's not supported
- it's buggy

[qubes-users] sharing vms between multiple computers

2018-12-02 Thread zhewy
couple of vms that i'm wanting to share between multiple computers via a
connected external drive. the process that i've got it working through seems
bit convoluted at the moment - sure there's better ways that i don't know
about; anyone able to provide any help/guidance?

at the moment - to my understanding, the method of notifying qubes about vms on
a drive is via qubes.xml - so i'm manually copying the ..
sections once i've connected the drive. extra fun is then each computer has
different vm-ids so i'm having to manually craft the id to suit/fit/allocate an
unassigned id at each time i'm connecting..

anyone know of better ways to do all this?

THanks..
