As discussed before, it clearly IS designed and advertised as internet
radio clock. While it can be used as mono internet radio, this is surely
not the primary function.

Just because they haven't released anything yet doesn't have to mean
that no one is trying to solve them.
All bug reports regarding this issues are either still new or were
marked as duplicates of unrelated issues and even these are obviously
not part of the 7.5 release.

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Argh! Backup alarm every morning, but streams fine when preset pressed

2009-12-09 Thread toby10

I don't use SB players for any alarm functions (see other posts, I've
said too much already), but I wonder if you couldn't do the following
which *might* be a more reliable alarm function:

- set ONLY a built in default alarm sound (forget trying to stream as
the alarm)
- dismiss alarm
- press Preset to your desired stream

Or can it be setup in a manner where pressing a Preset does both?
1. dismisses alarm
2. starts to stream that Preset

For *me* it is the reliance on all of the items in the chain to all
work as expected that I do not trust, all to perform a simple task. In
some scenarios all of the following must be functioning properly to wake
someone:
electric power, computer, router, WiFi, modem, ISP, SBS, MySB, internet
station

. all to accomplish what my $5 alarm clock with a simple 9v battery
backup has done flawlessly for over a decade.:)

 1) Every once in awhile (twice in the last three days) it freezes up
and restarts! Is this a known issue that Logitech is working on? I hope
 its not just my unit.

 2) If I'm listening to a certain station and I power off the radio,
when I power it back on it's still on that same station but there is no
audio! To get the audio back I have to go back Home and reselect the
 station.

Thanks Logitech for this great product, by far the best wi-fi radio in
 existance right now.

Shadow- There's at least one open bug that I know of causing the radio
to freeze up and reboot. It's slated to be fixed in version 7.5 and is
related to the type of file or stream you're playing.

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] BBC Radio stations not playing...

2009-12-09 Thread jef

It's more that I'd like to fix the problem by correcting the URLs,
rather than mask it. Not everyone in our home is a hacker, and they tend
to expect that a featured feature (Staff Picks) works -- that is about
the first place people try when they go to change the station if they
aren't Slim-o-philes.

The URLs pretty much have to be downloaded from the server, burned in
the firmware, or downloaded from Logi's server. At least the first two
can be under your control if you're not tied to Logi's server.

Thanks, I should have figured this out, simply press Play.

connection, but about the loss of internet connection. My main issue
with the Radio is the instability of the MYSB connection and the Radios
inability to reconnect to MYSB or to recover from the weird error states
induced by the loss of MYSB connection.

I don't follow. My SB Radio does re-connect to mysqueezebox.com if
connection is lost.

And wouldn't you agree that the back-up alarm should sound if the
internet connection is down when the alarm triggers?

I was going to set my parents up with a Squeezebox Receiver for
christmas, as my mom is getting an iPod Touch, and I was going to set
her up with iPeng to play all of her music across the house (I have it
and love that solution). However, it seems as though the receiver can no
longer be found online. So I'm considering just getting a SB Radio. Only
thing is that the connection will have to be a 3.5mm to red/white
converter cable for the sound, and I want to make sure that will sound
okay - doesn't need to be audiophile quality, but I still want it to be
good. I appreciate the feedback. Thanks!

Are you trying to play her music, or just internet radio? If her music
files, you might like the Squeezebox Touch, but it won't be released
until late Jan `10

Spoke with a Logitech rep today. They are sending me a prepaid return
label--I'm to return the defective unit directly to Logitech, and
they'll ship me a new one. It's better than returning it to Amazon and
waiting until they have more in stock. The reps I've spoken too thus
far have been pretty responsive and helpful.

A bit OT, but a lot of ISPs switch IP values frequently, even during a

(in this case the Radio) just asks for a new address as the end of the
lease approaches.

Its normal. AOL used to do it every twenty minutes or so.

Its really bad form for a device to assume that its IP address will stay
the same for a long time. Insert your own definition of long time here.

Unless there are new features I haven't found yet, iPeng doesn't Play

Receiver, SB3, or Touch to send the music to a stereo. If no stereo and
needs a unit that can actually produce sound, then a Squeezebox Boom or
SB Radio.

Why would anybody buy an SB Radio to run the headphone out into a
stereo when it can play music on its own? Might as well run the the iMac
audio out to a stereo and use iTunes.

The strange thing is why it is bothering the radio at all.
When the router changes its internet-IP, the radio still keeps its own
local-network IP that was assigned by DHCP.
So my wild guess is, that it's some strange effect on the MySB.com
side.

Who knows - just very depressing.

This is just silly. As has been stated elsewhere, the devs are working
100% on SB Touch until it is released, and work on all non-Touch bugs is
on hold. There's also the little matter that neither the devs nor the

which isn't part of the EU, but isn't exactly in North America either.
Just out of curiosity it would be interesting to know if SB ownership on
the two sides of the pond is anything like the 5:3 population ratio.

Really? Then why are they ignoring the fact the back-up alarm does
not trigger when there is a loss of internet connection? This is a
problem for those of US living in the USA.
