Ben, I completely agree with your analysis. Every word if it. But I was wondering whether someone (hint, hint) had heard something official :) --- learn more about iPeng, the iPhone and iPad remote for the Squeezebox and Logitech UE Smart Radio as well as iPeng Party, the free Party-App, at penguinlovesmusic.com *New: iPeng 7, the Universal App for iOS 7* pippin's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=13777 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=100616 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio
Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Is the Smart Radio about to be discontinued?
The answer to your thread question is almost certainly yes. Squeezebox as a product family was moved a few years ago to Ultimate Ears (UE), the "cool" audio arm of Logitech acquired through acquisition. About a year after UE took over Squeezebox they announce the "Smart Radio", the same hardware as Squeezebox Radio but with a different firmware that amongst other things explicitly severed compatibility with any previous Squeezebox. This was a clear move by UE to distance themselves from the "too complicated" Squeezebox and move to a more mainstream user interface. This product has been a failure. They alienated the core consumer by providing a non-backwards compatible device, so they were relying on a more-or-less completely new set of consumers to purchase the Smart Radio. Those consumers did not show up. Earlier this year they freed up the Smart Radio hardware to allow the installation of Squeezebox firmware. There were at least a few threads on the forum of people thinking Logitech might be re-embracing Squeezebox. I chose to interpret it as something different: since no one was buying the Smart Radio, they were trying to speed along the flushing out of all stock of this device. Then they could wash their hands of it for good and push all of their effort into Bluetooth speakers, which I have to guess they are both selling a lot of and making great profit margin on. It doesn't hurt that the software engineering effort is an order of magnitude less. An aside, I'm watching an NFL game the other day and a big section of the game is "brought to you by Sonos". Ad space on an NFL broadcast is very expensive, so it's crystal clear there's a market niche for what Squeezebox was (and what Sonos continues to be), it's just that Logitech has never been a company built to deliver such a thing. Logitech's core business has been and always will be accessories, and good streaming audio systems are more than that. I'll keep rocking my squeezeboxes until they die of old age, but they are dead to Logitech, including the failed Smart Radio. In fact, I think they've all been dead to Logitech for quite some time, it just wasn't public information. Squeezebox is dead. Might explain the deep discount we saw on them a few weeks ago. Picked one up with battery for $99. m1abrams's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=850 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=100616 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio

Do you have Replay Gain turned on? That might be reducing the volume? Squeezebox Plus, Naim nDAC, NAC202, NAP200, Focal Cobalt 816. Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Change volume to more than 100 and force headphone output
The volume in the web UI used to go to eleven. But this confused users (I'm sure you can find experts discussing the topic on the tube channels). Now you can no longer go further than 100%. [SlimDevices: Radio] Change volume to more than 100 and force headphone output
I have a Squeezebox Radio that is hardwired to a small digital amp using the headphone output on the squeezebox. I am trying to accomplish two goals. 1. I want to change the headphone maximum output to more than 100%. If I hook my iPhone directly to the amp instead of using the squeezebox I can get a significantly higher level of sound from my amp and that is what I'm looking to achieve from the squeezebox. 2. The alarm always outputs sound through the built-in speaker even though I have speakers hooked up to headphone jack. How can I change the alarm to output sound to the headphone jack instead? Before you all warn about doing damage to my amp from increasing the gain sent to it, I don't care. I don't care if changing the gain to 120% can burn up the amp. It's cheap, but at the same time I don't want to buy a bigger amp. I would just like to know the answers to my two questions. Thanks and Merry Christmas PWB's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=41141 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=100617 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio

Or just no longer being sold in the US? It's no longer mentioned on the US Logitech web site.
