[TANKS] Re: rotomolded plastic Panther hull and turret
Here's another $0.02 on rotomolding vs. ... Looking back on the hull construction process of My Tiger II to date, I think that if I were going for repeatability (and Rommel only knows why I'd need more than one beast of this size unless I planned to sell'em, which seems an unlikely proposition), I'd build wooden master molds and make the parts of fiberglass, as Paul did. In fact, that might be a good solution for the fenders, which I won't build until the tracks are on. I'd planned to use sheet aluminum, but I worry about paint adhesion. --~--~-~--~~~---~--~~ You are currently subscribed to the R/C Tank Combat group. Thank you, Frank. As always, you're of great assistance. I'll get a suitable marine primer from the local Bliss Marine... Frank just uses regular sheet metal on his Tiger (i'll be going that route when i get that far along), so just primer and paint would work fine Chris, _Odyssey Slipways_ (http://hometown.aol.com/odysseyslipways/index.html) **Make your life easier with all your friends, email, and favorite sites in one place. That is awesome. Looking forward to seeing it done. Where did you get the wheels and what is the diameter of them? [TANKS] Re: HUMVEE's
I haven't been on the Group lately, but seeing the title Humvee I couldn't resist. First of all, the $70 hummer that Paul uploaded from Walmart is the H3. It's my personal least favourite because its narrow shape and body is noticeably similar to the Jeep. However, it might not be too difficult to convert the body to the H-1 military vehicle. After all, it has a fairly simple geometry. Concerning its armament, one could easily build a trainable CROW turret. Also, as most HMMWV's, one could attach a TOW launcher. Attached are a couple photos. On Thu, Dec 11, 2008 at 1:38 PM, HV henryverheg...@earthlink.net wrote: Here is a 1/6th humvee, the military one. The body looks accurate, but it still doesn't look like the real thing because the body is too high above the wheels. The tires aren't accurate either, but they probably have better traction than scale tires. http://store.cubeberry.com/servlet/Detail?no=52 -- -Mike Måne @ http://moonrcprojects.googlepages.com --~--~-~--~~~---~--~~ You are currently subscribed to the R/C Tank Combat group. [TANKS] Re: Well, I have a rolling chassis...what next?
The wheels are 6x1.5, purchased from Princess Auto. (Canadian company). www.princessauto.com I've been sitting here looking at the drive system tonight. I picked up a couple of gears and some chain. I don't need so much speed, I need power I think, so small driving big is better methinks. I've got my torsion bars ready to trim off, I just need to get around to digging out the dremel to make that happen. --~--~-~--~~~---~--~~ You are currently subscribed to the R/C Tank Combat group. Hi, I too, have just recently entered the realm of r/c tanks. I am currently building a Walker Bulldog. I have the hull built, the road wheels installed, the front idler and track tensioner installed, top bogies, and am currently working on the drive train. Basically, I have all the parts from r/c to the paintball marker. I am, however getting a real lesson in 'fuzzy engineering'. :-) I took some pictures from the net, a few line drawings, what limited specs were available, scaled it down to approx 1/6, and started planning. As it is my first tank (one of many I foresee) I went without suspension. This simplifies the build. In theory, I should have a rolling chassis before the new year. Many thanks to all the people on RC Tank Combat. Great articles, and many, many great ideas. Cheers, Fred --~--~-~--~~~---~--~~ You are currently subscribed to the R/C Tank Combat group.
