one empty field. On side of hill. Often rented out to neighboring

summer. It wouldn't be up to my mum or stepdad as its not their farm.
Will find out though.

It no longer matters if you have built a vehicle or don’t expect to be
able to do so for some years to come.
If you have access to a dry enough field away from anything that you
wouldn’t want to get hit by a paintball then all you need to do is
convince Mom and Dad to allow you to host a battle. Then you can sit
back and we can bring the hobby to you . You can have the use of a
number of assets from tanks to SV`s . Lets see what your parents have
to say and then lets fill the year with battles. I hope everyone else
 is OK with this.

Just been having a look on the technobots site and think I should be
able to get some components there. They seem to have a lot of wheels
and sell tracks that may be too small though

Try getting a couple of RC warship pumps with Titan 12 turn motors...
those will generate some thrust without needing a tank of gas. Of
course, they'll drain your battery a bit, but everything's a tradeoff,
ja?

[TANKS] Re: Should I perhaps build this

2009-02-21 Thread Funkyneroc

Callum , I quite like the look of this vehicle ,I calculate the sizes
at:-
Length 573mm and Wide 338mm, I estimate the wheels at about
100-125mm ,very easy to get hold of.
I have been sat here thinking `how I would power such a vehicle ?` I
have thought of two possible methods both requiring skid steering.

1/ You could buy 2 kiddie car motors like the ones that power T027 and
T055 (Chris M will know the best places to find them) and join the
wheels on each side with a lightweight drive chain.

Or

2/ Purchase 6 identical individual small geared motors and have each
one powering its own wheel , this can even be done with suspension
using a universal joint if required ( but not recommended ).
http://www.technobots.co.uk/acatalog/Online_Catalogue_918D_Spur_Geared_Motor_229.html
I have calculated that a 30:1 gear motor ( part no 1450-042 ) running
at 12v with a 125mm wheel will give a vehicle speed of around 1.8 M
per second. Fast enough .

If you are wanting to build a simple SV to get into the hobby , have
you considered building a mule ?
http://www.rctankcombat.com/support-vehicles/SV010/

Please note :- You have no reason concerning this hobby for the
finished product to be able to float.

2009-02-21 Thread Sgt.A.Johnson

I probably won't make it float. It was just an idea. If i did it would
be because theres always a huge puddle near my house that would make
an interesting wading pool. I like the individual motor idea but will
probably just use 2 motors on the middle wheels and use some kind of
chain onto the other wheels. I reckon getting motors should be simple
enough. I did think about a mule and I also thought about artillery
but artillery I wouldn't really be able to use because I am unlikely
to be able to attend many battles for a while and felt it wouldn't be
worth it. Thank you for the measurements.

Have a look at http://www.supacat.com/pdf/Supacat_ATMP_A4.pdf

Of course the actual vehicle has conventional AND skid steering with
drive to the middle axle with chains to drive the front and rear wheel
pairs. No suspension except balloon tyres.

Would make a nice supply vehicle.

Mythbusters tried this at full scale with a very large HPA cylinder -
it was a roaring failure, moving the boat a few meters from memory,
and draining the cylinder in seconds.

Just thought of a compactish propulsion system for water. May not
work. Largest single part would be a gas cylinder. Have a gas cylinder

remotely controlled valve on each output and onto those have 2 pipes/
hoses running down into the water under the vehicle. Put a one way
valve on each hose to prevent water entering the hose. Hopefully what
should happen is when the vehicle is in the water release air out of
the pipes to generate propulsion in the water.     Problems: Limited
by size of gas cylinder, Must be able to carry the extra cylinder,
Vehicle will limit max size of cylinder anyway and System may not be
able to give enough force to move the vehicle anyway.

Is it possible to replace the 12V motors with 18 V or 24 V motors in order

replace teh motors. They're usually mounted with two screws.
