The only batteries that are safe for indoor use are sealed type batteries.
(Gel Cell)
We use 2 100AH Gel Cell batteries in the bottom of the equipment racks that
house the VE7RPA and
an service rack I have in my shop. Vented rechargable(lead/acid) batteries
emit hydrogen gas when they are being charged
and represent a significant explosion risk. These batteries must be in a
(sealed to the inside) enclosure that is vented outside.
Photos of the VE7RPA installation are at: http://ve7ku.dyndns.org/ve7rpa
The Float - Equalize switch shifts the regulated voltage output on the
heavy current output up and down. In the 1106 manual
the Float position the voltage is set at 13.0 volts and in Equalize the
setting is 14.0 volts. These voltages are for Lead Acid Batteries.
The Tone Pot is an alert tone for low battery voltage. It is only present
if the power supply has the C29 option for Battery protection and Alarm.
