As I looked through the pictures, I noticed Chuck Davis, Ronald Steele, and Kennedy Winston are all wearing different styles of shoes. Guess they've all got their own shoe deals, already. :) Roll Basketball Tide!! The Prichard native also collected his 1,000 career point in the contest becoming the 37th UA player to eclipse the mark. The victory improved the No. 19 (AP) Crimson Tide to 11-3 for the season, 1-1 in the SEC. LSU dropped to 6-5, 0-1 in the SEC. The game was nip and tuck through the first half with the Tide taking a one point advantage to the locker-room. The second half opened in the same fashion with both teams trading the lead six times through the first four minutes. However, with the Tide leading 43-42, Earnest Shelton hit a lay-up that started a 17-0 Alabama run, during which Winston scored eight points, that gave the Tide an insurmountable 18-point lead over the Tigers with 8:14 remaining in the game. LSU cut the lead back to eight with just under four minutes to play on a three pointer from Darrel Mitchell but that would be the last shot the Tigers would make from the field. In addition to Winston’s 21-point effort, Shelton added 19 for the Tide and Ronald Steele tied his career high with 14 points. Chuck Davis scored 10 points and both he and Jermareo Davidson grabbed a game-high eight rebounds. Glen Davis led LSU with 13 points. Mitchell and Antonio Hudson scored 11 apiece and Brandon Bass added 10 for the Tigers. Alabama will return to action Wednesday night, traveling to Fayetteville, Arkansas to take on the Razorbacks. Tip-off for the contest is set for 8:00 p.m. The game will be televised by ESPN and can be heard on the Crimson Tide Sports Network. -- ROLL TIDE ROLL Ricky Mac ___ RTF mailing list RTF@rolltidefan.net http://rolltidefan.net/mailman/listinfo/rtf_rolltidefan.net

... anyone is interested in reading about our sucky basketball team... Boy those guys disappointed me last night with their "I could care less" attitude. Roll-on Tide Roll-0n! Rick Vandy continues dominance at home http://www.tidesports.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20050106/NEWS/501060347/1011 By Christopher Walsh Sports Writer January 06, 2005 NASHVILLE | The University of Alabama men’s basketball team might want to think about changing its scheduling policy regarding SEC openers because the Crimson Tide still hasn’t figured out how to win at Memorial Gymnasium. Led by guards Mario Moore and Jason Holwerda, who both finished with 16 points, Vanderbilt made 12 3-pointers and never trailed to beat Alabama 70-56 Wednesday night in the SEC opener for both teams. “We played bad. They played good," junior forward Chuck Davis said. “That was the story of the night." With the convincing victory, Vanderbilt continued its winning ways to extend three winning streaks at home: 10-0 this season, eight straight against Alabama (going back to 1990) and 8-0 in SEC openers opposite the Crimson Tide. But what was particularly disappointing to Alabama (11-3 overall, 0-1 SEC), ranked No. 19 in the latest Associated Press poll, was its perimeter defense. Coming in, Vanderbilt led the conference in 3-pointers with 10 per game, and it was no secret how the Commodores would attack. “We have to get a lot better," coach Mark Gottfried said. Alabama’s transition game also struggled, and seemingly just about every time Vanderbilt put up a 3-pointer it scored no matter if the initial shot went in or not thanks to nine offensive rebounds in the first half alone and an overall rebounding advantage of 41-25. Starting with Polish senior center Dawid Przybyszewski off the opening tip, Vanderbilt came out firing and shot 50-percent on its first 19 3-pointers. “We gave up too many 3s," said Alabama forward Kennedy Winston. “We’re last in the conference defensively in that, and it’s killing us right now." Meanwhile, with Davis picking up two quick fouls, Alabama searched for another hot hand to complement Winston, who also finished with 16 points, but didn’t find it in the backcourt. Freshman point Ronald Steele was limited to one field goal and two free throws while senior Earnest Shelton’s shooting woes continued on the road. He finished with eight points, but was 3-for-10 from the field, giving him a shooting percentage of 30.9 percent (13-for-42) over the last four games away. “I’ve been playing down the last few games," Shelton said. “I have to pick it up." Runs of 8-3 and 9-2 helped Vanderbilt build a 30-20 lead, but three inside baskets and three free throws by sophomore forward Jermareo Davidson, who finished with a team-high 21 points, minimized the damage until Moore hit 3-pointers on three consecutive possessions to help the Commodores open up a 41-29 halftime lead. From there it got worse for Alabama. Led by Moore, the Commodores (10-4, 1-0) kept hitting 3-pointers to open the second half with a 16-3 run, and with 14:22 remaining all five Vanderbilt starters were on the bench. “We tried to do better defensively in the second half, but by then it was too late," said Davidson, who tied his season best in scoring (at Charlotte, Dec. 4). Alabama came back with a 19-4 run and with a 3-point play by Winston closed to 64-56 with 5:02 remaining but got no closer. Alabama will be looking to close in on three milestones when it hosts LSU on Saturday: -- Gottfried is still two wins shy of career No. 200. -- Winston needs 11 points for 1,000 career points. Shelton is 20 points short of passing Gottfried (1985-87) for 34th on the Alabama all-time scoring list with 1,056 points. Tip-off is scheduled for 5 p.m., and the game will be televised by Fox SportsNet. -- Ricky Mac ___ RTF mailing list RTF@rolltidefan.net http://rolltidefan.net/mailman/listinfo/rtf_rolltidefan.net
