i sure would not be okay with it. i've never seen them. now, when they're
finally doing an european tour, they don't come to sweden. so i guess i'll never
see them. the worst part is when i was in seattle a couple of years ago they
played there, three days after i left

Re: [sdre-l]: Jeremy interview, and (oh no) a poll...

2000-12-07 Thread Matt Land

i guess i just don't see things the way you guys do...

personally, as much as i like Diary and LP2, i'm so glad that the band has
gotten back together and moved in new directions. i think that if SDRE
hadn't gotten back together, and then tried to do other things, that
everything they did would be measured against SDRE, and that wouldn't be
fair. as it is now, the 'new' band is measured against the 'old' band, and
that's a fair comparision. like it or not, that's your thing. i like the
new albums [HITFTBSO & Tide], becuase i think that if they'd made two more
albums that sounded just like Diary or LP2, i'd be so bored of them i'd
puke. i'm glad that they're pushing the Sunny Day envelope.

i feel lucky that the band is back together, or i would have never had the
chance to meet them, or see them live. and if they decided tomorrow to
never play another pre-HITFTBSO again, i'd be ok with it. for instance,
i've seen them play Seven now, they don't ever have to play it again [since
apparently one of them doesn't like to].

thanks for your time.

I can't agree more. but in addition, I also wish they would never have rejoined at all
because I don't like what they have done since. Don't get me wrong, their music is now
is much better than most music available today, but I believe the pink album was the
best album ever made. Why would I listen to HIFTBSO or The Rising Tide if i could
listen to the pink album or diary? I hope they break up soon. Maybe Jeremy will then
do
more solo stuff (beyond his required 2) or he will start or join another band or
something becuase I just don't like the direction Dan is taking them in now. Dan is a
very nice guy, but I don't like him as a musician or a lyricist. I have a feeling that
in about 4 hours my mailbox will be more full than it has ever been. bye.

2000-12-05 Thread mike zsifkovits

I agree with Charlie on the fact that the band should have just walked after the first
two albums and then change their name after reforming (like Slowdive did after they
broke
up. The remaining members formed Mojave 3). But as far as Nate not wanting to be with a
band that was done, finished, finito - then why the hell is he still in the Foo
Fighters?? If Nate would have rejoined, we still may have a Sunny Day that we enjoy as
much as we did when we first heard them. But as soon as you remove an important
ingredient - you no longer have the same chemistry. I don't know how many of you listen
to Primus, but if you do - look what happened after Herb quit. You can't remove the
pink
hearts from the yellow moons, orange stars and green clovers and still have Lucky
Charms.

I've actually been trying to think of this from Nate's perspective. Maybe in
his mind, the band was done, over with, finished, finito, etc. WHy try to
recapture the youthful energy and excitement they had, just let the band be,
keep it how it was, let their two albums be a nice representation of how to
make melodic, energetic, but intelligent music, and provide a blueprint for
future bands. I still think it was a dumb idea for the band to keep the
name, because with a band like that, where the members have a certain
chemistry together and are obviously doing something right, it'll never be
the same. Plus, we wouldn't have to hear Jeremy and Dan bitch about playing

Re: [sdre-l]: Jeremy interview, and (oh no) a poll...

2000-12-04 Thread Matt Land

IMHO, i don't think that they'd be so quick to let Nate back in the band. i
think that the animosity with Nate resides most in Will, and that's partly
misdirected dislike for Dave Grohl. overhearing Will talk about his Foo
experience outside their show at the Norva Theatre, Norfolk, VA this past
October, i heard him raise his voice in disapproval of Mr. Grohl. so, i
think Will [along with the rest of the band] is miffed that he didn't
return, but they've moved on. let's remember that the whole "we're getting
the band back together" thing was 3-4 years ago, so i'm sure that being
adults they've all grown up a bit. at least that's what i got from a
lengthy conversation with Jeremy, and listening to Will.

my guess for your poll, it would be either #3 or #4, and most likely in that
order. i just can't see they guys being angry at Nate.

and yes, i know i replied to the list with this. thought you all might like
to read it. thank you for your time.

2000-12-03 Thread Jason Gagnon

It seemed to me after reading the interview, that the animosity (if any
still exists) toward Nate lies elsewhere in the band. Does anyone know for
sure?

Here's the poll:
I've been on the list for a year now, and I haven't seen it yet, so if it
was done prior to my arrival, I'm sorry.

Nate wants back into Sunny Day. Do they say:

1. Yes! We'd love to have you back.
2. Yes, but only if he had quit the Foos before he asked, showing he had
given everything up just to be back with SDRE.
3. Well, we're sorry nate, but we enjoy being a three piece now.
4. No friggin' way, man. You had your chance.

I realize these are black and white choices, and in reality something of
this sort would be quite different from my situations, but hey, none of you
want to read 400 possibilities. You're probably nauseous from reading these
four, as if this horse hasn't been beaten enough already. But I just
figured I'd ask. The poll will close next sunday.

Thanks for your time,

Jason
