Yes, I know that I'm taking a security risk. But I also feel about SM
2.0.14 "it's not broke so why fix it". I know this is totally forlorn;
but I do wish that the powers that be would come up with SM 2.0.15 with

I guess it's up to the beholder to judge well SM 2.1 / 2.2 / 2.3 work.
I've had no trouble with them (except for the link properties problem in
Composer, for which there's a workaround and which is apparently to be
fixed), but of course YMMV, and what's important to you is up to you.

If you abandon SM, you may find the work effort to move is greater than
that to workaround SM problems. Again YMMV.

I haven't tried KompoZer recently. I tried BlueGriffon, which I
understand to be a from-the-ground-up reimplementation, but I found
BlueGriffon to make some "elementary" some things way too difficult,
e.g., changing fonts or font sizes (Having to define a CSS style sheet
and element ID to change a font seems grossly excessive to me - but I'd
be happy for correction if I misunderstand the BG function).

Have you ever looked at the fork of Composer, called KompoZer ?
Supposedly newer code. And separate, not dependent on the suite.

It is packaged in the "omni.jar" (which is a ZIP archive) file in

Herrmann,

Your suggestion of

provides the exact display I am familiar with and works perfectly for
me.

I was astonished to read Justin's statement that compacting folders
could take as long as an hour. In my experience, it's never taken more

with thousands of messages.

In one account, a while ago, I had over 40k mails (many due to
innordinate spam, and never really caring to actually filter it). Lets
just say, that I had deleted a good number of spam (or moved it in some
cases, if I found it humorous in the first place), as well as being
subscribed to many mailing lists, that I also had filters set to move to
different folders.

Lets just say that my compacting took about 49 minutes. It also wasn't
the fastest HD/CPU at the time, but that was an extreme case.

I had the same thing happen to me. When I checked the upgrade notice
section of the Preferences, I noticed that for some reason, the SM
upgrade box was unchecked, whereas it previously was and I didn't change
it.

I don't know when that happened, but it might be something you'd want to
look into.

S.

Hmmm . . . Excellent suggestion. So, I checked, and of course it was not
checked. I hadn't looked at it, as it was "always" checked over the
years. We'll see if that changes things.

Now feeling a bit stupid, as I usually check preferences before asking
questions. Well, obviously not this time.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Please let us know, within the next few days if this got you upgraded.
If not I have thoughts on how to look into the update server side of
things to check on things. (among other things) But that is more work
anyway :-)

O.K., now getting the "upgrade to 2.2" notices. Question: Do I need to
go to 2.2 (from 2.0.14), then 2.3, in two steps, or can I go directly to
2.3? (Assuming manually selecting the upgrade, not an automatic process.)

If you accept the in-dialog upgrade from SeaMonkey, "for now" you do
need to go to 2.2. (This won't always be the case though, I just don't
have the new ->2.3 upgrade ready yet)

If you go to our website and download/install 2.3 you should be just
fine, and don't need to do 2.2's upgrade first.

The choice is up to you.

Refreshing SM windows after keyboard unlock

2011-08-20 Thread Rickles

OS: WinXP Pro SP3 with updates
Browser: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 5.1; rv:6.0) Gecko/20110813 Firefox/6.0
SeaMonkey/2.3

Long-time user of SM products to replace 'the other guys' stuff.

Upgraded from SM2.0.14 to 2.3 couple of days ago. Since then, wife has
complained about something I've just verified and found reproduceable:
If a prevously active SM window doesn't have focus when the Win screen
saver unloads so you can see the desktop, the SM window is effectively
blank. Just very few random components visible. If you pass your mouse
icon over the empty areas, the expected icons/windowpane elements
reappear. If you go to the top of the window and click, all elements
reappear and everything works.

At first I thought it was down to the screen saver options, but now I
can reproduce it at will:

Leave SM browser or mailnews with focus; Lock the keyboard. Unlock the
keyboard and everything is fine.

Now click on the desktop and then lock the keyboard. Unlock the
keyboard and the SM window which did have focus but lost it when you
clicked the desktop, isn't re-drawn, at least not immediately. It makes
no difference how long you let the PC sit between lock-unlock actions,
behavior the same.

System performance monitoring show no apps trying to hog resources and
so load the system down. The upgrade to SMv2.3 is the only software
to be installed in a long time, and it's only since that install that
this has manifested.

Not a show-stopper, but definitely an annoyance.

Seamonkey 2.3 & Ebay

2011-08-20 Thread Philip TAYLOR (Webmaster, Ret'd)
Has anyone successfully created an Ebay listing using
Seamonkey 2.3 under Windows/XP ? I had already removed
the Flash plugin to overcome the stalling problem
reported earlier, but was unable to use the Basic
dialogue box to upload images as it kept telling
me I had no images selected. I then re-installed
the Flash plugin to try the standard uploader, but
this now stalls after telling me that it has
successfully uploaded four images.

Ken wrote:

Hi guys. Have SM 2.0.14 and Windows 7.

Normally the Add-ons Manager should only appear when a new add-on has
been installed (for 2.0, which you are using; does not apply to later
versions). This is independent of whether you installed it yourself or
an add-on update was found and installed automatically, though.

If the Add-ons Manager window really appears every time you start SM,
that's either a bug in 2.0 (which then won't be fixed since as I said
the behavior changed after 2.0) or due to some add-on you have installed.
