Scroll down this page,

http://chris-osm.blogspot.co.uk/

gdal, etc. are in most distros. If you install grass or qgis you will get a
lot of geo stuff.

Haven't had the time to check it out myself, looks pretty good.

Hi

We at kickstart project are going too bring back the project back.too life.

The idea is that we map a small area of city too show where all.the curbs
for wheelchair users to find shortage route n.navigation around town..

Anyone can do a small.talk.about osm?

Help with what app too use on a mobile device to tag the kurbs on the map?

The principles of open data how too stop it getting tie too closed source
data. We want the data too.be used as much as possible.. Hopefully used in
a satnav app.

We can come too you n have this meeting

We based in Kidderminster..

2016-05-04 Thread Mark Croft Redditch Linux Mint
i did not know it was common for OSS/linux/opensource/etc style
projects to charge there volunteers to attend , wish i was rich
computer programmer with lots of free time to kill at these events but
i am not , i am the complete opposition being disabled and unable to
find any neche in the computer world anymore , i found work very hard
when i was a computer programmer starting out and was only in work for
4 years and the company had a restructing. I lost my job and never
found another one been unemployed for 22 years now. I do not have a
degree and did try to get a computer programming degree but cos i was
too bad customer for the banks i could not pay for student halls (i
never paid for accomodation in the end at univeristy of humberside n
licoln at the hull campus) it was a nightmare. I did get a little bit
of support from disabled student suppport services got diagnose with
dyselixa and got a special stamp that i used on my assignments which
really meant that the lectureers just gave me a pass mark on most of
them some of thut programming stuff i was getting merits on. I found
the degree pretty lame really and a lot of very dishearted lectureers
that where being overworked and stretched across a number of different
campuses.
The maths lecture just told me to copy somebody elses work cos he did
not have time to explain it too me.

so in the end i never went back after the first year and a few grand
in debt to the student loan company i guess they will never get it
back.

[Talk-gb-westmidlands] lidar

2016-02-25 Thread Mark Croft Redditch Linux Mint
hi

i seen people posting about lidar data being intergrated with open
street maps. Has anyone got the ear of the people doing the lidar
scanning because it would useful/interested to scan redditch if there
are over this way it would make sense.

We have a number of interesting sites - the most interesting is
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bordesley_Abbey

Not sure if they had anything like lidar done but they sent up a drone
the other day.

https://youtu.be/8JgIlUbVk2w

how hard is it too attached lidar to such a drone? maybe a raspberry pi project?

Re: [Talk-gb-westmidlands] May Meeting (Disabilty Kurb Project)

2015-05-01 Thread Mark Croft
Hi

The group has been out to bewdley and did a test run of finding curbs.
I was not able to join in cos of health problems felling worn out with
weather n hayfever.

I should really have a go on my own here around my town in redditch.

got a stack of photos and a spreadsheet of gps points where there good
curbs and so reasonable ones that either steep and hard work to push a
manual wheelchair up and others with a reasonable size drop down to
the path/road etc etc

I need to get some clarification on all the different issues with
curbs and come up with some form of coding and label system.

first beta version of the map attached (not sure its openstreetmap)

i want to know to make a seperate layer of points on top of
openstreetmap? does this need to done on custom webpage and having a
host etc? I not done any internet programming yet would like the
challange but also very time limited too get some sort of beat/demo
copy of at least a paper copy of the map of bewdley.

Maybe we have a go around bromsgrove on thursday?

Is taking photos with embedded gps position enough?

I have a friend that can offer me some free website space? ( i am
involved in another project called Disability Action Redditch and need
to redo there website and i am hoping to put this Curb/Kurb project on
there for now - so that should be up soon or at least a frontpage
saying that DAR website going live in june/july 2015)

[Talk-gb-westmidlands] trying to get a Wheelchair kurb project off the ground

2015-03-24 Thread Mark Croft
hi
i am based in redditch and involved with a disability group call DIAL
in worcestershire. We are looking at the possibility of using
http://wheelmap.org/ alongside android phones too help disabled people
have better access to the town centres.

The main goal at the moment is try to get a record of all the drop
kerbs in a small area around kidderminster maybe other parts of
worcestershire depending on the volunteers we got at the moment.
We would like to be able to feed this information into any future
projects/apps that could use this information for satnav type app for
wheelchairs/scooter users.

I am all new too openstreetmaps but i use open source at home with
linux and would think its the best place too put information/data is
openstreetmaps i am not sure i convinced them that it is at the moment
i feel like a lone voice , they keep going on about keeping the
technology as simple as possible but i believe that can be achieved
with open apps as well just that most of audience for open source is
quite geeky and techno minded , geeks have no problems with
commandline apps etc.

I will try to attend the next meeting.

Would anyone else like to get involved with this project?
