Instead of %USERPROFILE% I found that %TEMP% works for what I

I get the same AV with the same addresses when I try to access my news

Maybe it is a Win2K issue, because it does not happen on my PC running

3.86.10 Problem with MyGate

2006-12-14 Thread Peter Meyns
Hi all,

I still cannot use MyGate with this version. On the first attempt at
fetching messages it logs

!14.12.2006, 18:30:35: FETCH - Access violation at address 006F343A in
module 'theBat.exe'. Read of address 000C

and on following attempts tells me "Cannot connect to server". It only
happens on my notebook with Win2K/OTFE enabled, not on my PC with
WinXP/OTFE disabled.

Any other MyGate users here who can comment?

It is still ugly with the /dontstayontoplogo parameter set. However,
try it without it and you'll see that the splash screen doesn't stay

The same thing happens here on my notebook for the messages from news

also a POP connection to an internal server. The notebook runs Win2K

TB! 3.95.1 and Voyager 3.86.03 don't work under Win98SE

2006-12-21 Thread Peter Meyns
Hi all,

yesterday I upgraded my girlfriend's TB!. She has an old notebook
running Win98SE with a P2 processor at 233 MHz. TB! starts normally
(the Christmas splash screen found her approval), but the main window
insists on having the focus. It cannot be minimized nor can other
windows like menus or a new message be used. They pop up and
immediately lose the focus. I found no way around this apart from
going back to 3.85.03.

The next surprise came when I started my Voyager on her machine. I had
found version 3.86.03 on Ritlabs' download page and installed it. It
works well on my WinXP PC. Under Win98SE it showed exactly the same
symptoms as 3.95.1, so I couldn't even complain about it until now,
because I couldn't write a new message. It pops up, but the focus gets
lost in a quarter of a second.

Does anyone here use Win98SE and see the same?

I agree they should fix IMAP and Unicode issues, but they should *not*
drop support for Win98 - especially for Voyager. I don't know how many
systems run Win98 right now worldwide, but I guess it's a lot. Voyager
is meant to run on as many Windows machines as possible! So Win98

Got a chance to test it with Win98SE today, and it seems to work ok
now. Except one little quirk that appears above the main window upon
starting. See attached picture. The row above the main window
disappears after opening any menu or minimizing and maximizing again.

Voyager: Cookies don't work any more

2007-01-04 Thread Peter Meyns
Hi all,

something has changed with Voyager's handling of %COOKIES. I used to
refer to the cookies.txt file by the relative path and it worked.

With the current version Voyager tells me, "Cannot open file
"tbcookies.txt"". When I put the full path in the template, it works.

But that's not an option! Voyager runs on different machines, so the
drive letter assigned to the Voyager USB stick isn't predictable, and
it differs depending on the respective computer. I cannot change my QT
any time I use Voyager on another computer.

Is there anything *I* can do to make Voyager understand the relative
path again, or is it just a bug?

I didn't have to watch long. It came out of nowhere. The Bat! was idle
except for the regular mail checking, and it simply closed down - error
report attached, instead of sent to MS... ;)

I didn't have any problems with ASS, free version, yet.

But I'm having problems with other plugins.

A while ago I used K9, which started, but didn't close any more with
The Bat! - I don't remember which version it was. I worked around it
with PowerPro.

Next was MyGate, which stopped starting with The Bat!, but when
started otherwise, it was closed along with The Bat!. Since a short
time ago - it may very well have been v3.96.08 - it neither starts nor
closes and I have to start and close it manually, respectively with a
PowerPro script. :( On Voyager 3.95.06 it doesn't start via plugin,
but at least it closes.

I think, Melanie is on the right trail. Something with the support of
plugins seems to go awry in the Vista versions of TB!...

You are right. I forgot that GPG2GO only works from the command line.
It is indeed a bit cumbersome, but it works. I read that there is
GPGshell for removable devices available, but I haven't tried it yet.

Running fine so far, but something is messed up with the Rogues
feature. When the last viewed message contained a Rogue picture and I
switch to another folder's message that has no X-Rogue assigned, the
previous pic doesn't go away but stays on every message until I find
one with a new X-Rogue header. It occurs only when switching folders.

Besides, the version number in Help -- About should definitely be
3.99.09 instead of the actual 3.99.9. And it should be marked as a
beta.

MyGate - invalid pointer operation

2007-08-20 Thread Peter Meyns
Hi all,

I have been using MyGate with The Bat! for years. It is still working,
but since 3.99.17 there is a disturbance. Some time during fetching
mails, an error window appears:

,- [ MyGate ]
| Invalid pointer operation
|
| [OK]
`-

After that, MyGate's normal icon in the system tray is gone, but
hovering over the empty space where it used to be reveals the tooltip
"MyGate" and I can access it as normal. It still fetches posts from
newsgroups, showing the "fetch" icon, so the functionality is not
(yet) affected.

I'm just afraid that over all the Vista efforts the good old features
may get broken, which would be too bad for me in regard to MyGate. I
have so much gotten used to using The Bat! as a newsreader, that it
would be very bad if this possibility would cease.

So please, developers, don't let MyGate die. I know it isn't supported
any more by its author, nor is it your premium task to keep old
third-party plugins working, but in this case, please do! :)

I'm sorry, no, I can't right now. I'll be on a one-week holiday trip

I did test most of the previous versions - always with MyGate - and

It is a liitlle different on Win2K: when I right-click the icon of TB!
the context menu appears, but it doesn't go away when I click anywhere
else. I have to select anything from the menu to make it disappear.
Tested with .20 and .21.

my PC at home and this notebook are both set to leave messages on the

It is supposed to find lost folders. Sometimes it does, sometimes it
doesn't. Always worthwhile a try. Note, that the focus must be on the

I have tried it on my home PC and deleting of messages works as it
should. I upgraded my notebook to v3.99.24 and tried there (yes, I
decreased the number of days for the test) and it doesn't work there.
The differences I'm aware of are WinXP Pro SP2, no OTFE, versus Win2K,
OTFE.

Connection Centre again

2007-09-05 Thread Peter Meyns
Hi all,

when I receive a large message, the Connection Centre displays
nonsense about the data transfer and the estimated time. My

One more quirk with CC:

I use TB! for news groups with MyGate, and there the Connection Centre
shows each currently incoming post with the size of 3077 kB.

Maybe that's what scrolling down and up again is useful for: you won't
see this nonsense any more. ;-)

I don't know. I am only subscribed to 6 or 7 news groups with a daily
