Voyager re-install problem

2006-12-11 Thread Richard Wakeford
Hello,

I was having problems with my Voyager set up so I cleared the stick and
re installed. I put in my registration number and then got my token from
the web site and put it in but, each time I now try to open the
programme, I get the following dialogue box.

The token has been unplugged. Exit The Bat! Voyager loosing changes?
(answering NO requires pluging the token back in to continue work with
The Bat! Voyager)

Apart from re-installing some of the deleted files I'm stuck. Any advice
please from more knowledgeable users? I also seem to remember reading
somewhere that a different token had to be used but can't for the life
of me find any message referring to that subject, certainly not any
subject concerning an *unplugged* token.

Are you logged off then, or are you using fast user switching?

Re: Voyager re-install problem

2006-12-11 Thread Richard Wakeford
Hello,

To reply to myself, I've tried installing on another USB stick but with
the same results. Because of this I can't do anything to alter settings
in Voyager because I have to select YES in the dialogue box and, of
course, everything closes down. If I select NO then the box just stays
and I can't do anything either.

I'm off for two weeks holiday next week so do very much hope that
someone might have even the slightest idea of what is wrong.

Re: Voyager re-install problem

2006-12-11 Thread Gerrit Kiers
Hello Richard,

I have just installed Voyager onto my USB stick and can only refer to what I
noticed during that process. I hope it'll be of some help.

I understand that you have 'cleared the stick' and reinstalled Voyager onto it,
and 'put in my registration number and then got my token from
the web site and put it in'. Despite this it seems your Voyager is not
accepting your token and continues to pop up for one.

When I got my token from the web site it said I had four more activations to
go. Do you recall that message? Is yours decreasing now that you are
reinstalling and got your token from the web site to point out you've been
using a new activation?

I saved my token to a text file so I could use it in a later instance in case I
needed to reinstall (preventing using my future activations), BUT I did not
fail to notice that the token uses a 'token serial number' that is based on the
file system type of the USB stick and its volume ID.

My token serial number was like FAT- (can be FAT32-)

This is my guess at what your situation is all about:

You have formatted your USB stick and as a consequence its volume ID has
changed and now your token activation is no longer valid as the volume ID is
based on the token serial number.

Please Note that I assume that you saved your token and used this number
instead of reactivating through Internet your new installation.

This is what you can do:

Download VolumeID v2.0 from Mark Russinovich
(Whow. That is new to me: He is at Microsoft now!!! )
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/FileAndDisk/VolumeId.mspx

After you format your USB stick run this little tool to give it back its
previous volume ID. Make sure you formatted to the right file system type as
well (defaults to FAT is my experience). Now reinstalling Voyager with your
original registration number and the token you have saved should be working
smoothly.

Most probably you never noted down your original volume ID, so you'll need to
reactivate your new installation again through the internet and get a new
token. This time you write down your token serial number as well.

Hello Gerrit,

GK I understand that you have 'cleared the stick' and reinstalled
GK Voyager onto it, and 'put in my registration number and then got my
GK token from the web site and put it in'. Despite this it seems your
GK Voyager is not accepting your token and continues to pop up for one.

Well, it actually says the Token has been unplugged whatever that
means. On both the USB sticks I've tried it on, I only deleted the old
files. I haven't changed the formatting in any way and the disc volume
name is still the same on both of them.

GK When I got my token from the web site it said I had four more
GK activations to go. Do you recall that message?

I do indeed. This time I copied the activation key so that I could use
it without decreasing my number of activations left. The first time I
installed Voyager I didn't, mainly because I didn't see the number of
usages one had left but also because I thought that each reinstallation
would need an new activation key.

GK My token serial number was like FAT- (can be FAT32-)

Where do you find that? All I got was the activation key, nothing about
a token serial number. In fact I'd never heard of the need for a token
before I had the trouble today.

GK Please Note that I assume that you saved your token

No. Never thought that I'd need to do that. By the way, is the token the
same as the activation key? I'm a bit lost here. Thought that, on each
reinstallation, one would need a new activation key.

That might be the problem. I reactivated with a new activation key.

GK After you format your USB stick run this little tool to give it back
GK its previous volume ID. Make sure you formatted to the right file
GK system type as well (defaults to FAT is my experience). Now
GK reinstalling Voyager with your original registration number and the
GK token you have saved should be working smoothly.

Big problem. As I've said, I didn't save the original activation key.
:-( But then I didn't either of my USB sticks.

GK Most probably you never noted down your original volume ID, so
GK you'll need to reactivate your new installation again through the
GK internet and get a new token. This time you write down your token
GK serial number as well.

That's going to be the solution I think but what do I put in instead of
the crosses in the command line?

Usage: volumeid driveletter:-

I'm not clueless with PCs by any manner of means but a mail programme
that is supposed to appeal to the general public shouldn't really have
complicated problems like this :-(

I've just reformatted the USB stick, reinstalled Voyager and got another
activation key (although it still says I have 4 left) and put the
activation key in where, yet again, it says it accepts it. However, when
Voyager continues to run, the same box comes up. What on earth does it
mean when it says The token is unplugged? The wretched programme has
just accepted it only 30 seconds before!

Frustrating or what! Sometimes I really hate computers.

I am logged off. I seldom use fast user switching because if I remain
logged on and simply switch users, K9 won't even start when she logs
on. You get some kind of error message whose text I can't remember
right now. Apparently K9 can be used by only one user at a time.
