[TCP] css tutorials
Hello everyone, I got my first call from a contracting agency with a job opportunity this morning--unfortunately, I don't have the specific skill they're looking for. They wanted someone to do graphic cut ups with HTML and CSS. I know I could learn how to do it, but they want someone tomorrow, and they have other people they can call. It's only a two-week contract, so I'm not losing much, but I'd like to be able to say, I can do that! next time I get this kind of call. There are very many css tutorials out there. Any suggestions for good ones (meaning tutorials that you or someone you know have used successfully)? I'll need some beginner ones, first, and I would like to do the cut ups, too. Even if another job using that skill doesn't come up, I might use them for my personal pages. Any recommendations much appreciated! Re: [TCP] css tutorials
In the graphics world, creating cut ups means taking a graphic and removing something (usually the background), so that just the graphical element itself can be used. For example, if you wanted to take the graphic off of a picture of a button or icon, you'd cut out the graphic. This is not something that is done using CSS and HTML, but is instead done using something like PhotoShop. I'm not sure how you would do this in HTML, actually. ...sue On 9/12/07, Bonnie Granat [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: I can't quickly find out by searching what graphic cut ups with HTML and CSS means. Re: [TCP] css tutorials
Thanks. It may refer to placing parts of large graphic into separate divs that are floated so that subsequent divs appear to the right of the first one and the picture as a whole loads faster in a Web browser. Floating a div means just telling it to begin where the one before it stopped. I think it's more cutting up graphics into small pieces that will enable them to load faster. No frames (it's a loaded term). Often they fit into small components, possibly table cells (old style), or CSS divs (new style). Also there are usually slightly different images for things like selected, mouse-over, visited, etc. My 2¢, JG It means cutting up a graphic and placing each piece inside a frame I think. ;) __ Author Help files and create printed documentation with Doc-To-Help. So, why do you suppose this company wants it done? For using different images on hover, click, etc.? In my experience, this kind of oddball request is because that's how our last person did it. No one has studied current practices, or suggested anything different. If I had received this kind of phone call, I would have asked a few questions. Explain what that means. Why does the company do it that way? Have they considered ? Often, the recruiter will stop and pause, not having an answer. In that case, I ask for the interview so that I can understand the job better. Just my not-so-humble experience.
