[Texascavers] New LED flashlight

2011-05-16 Thread dlocklear01
Lowe's Hardware just got a new flashlight in.

Kobalt #0079129

I will not be able to test it for a while, but it looks like the best
flashlight I have seen in my life.

$ 70

500 lumens on high. Has a low setting which is what you would normally use.

Has fancy lens arrangement with 3 LED's.

Light-weight enough to take on a caving trip to a big cave.

Hopefully there will be one at next caver's auction.

[Texascavers] new LED flashlight at REI

2007-04-27 Thread David Locklear

REI has the newest Inova flashlight.

It uses a 4.6 watt K2 LED.Other than that its design is identical
to the previous Luxeon 3 watt.

It does have a rubber handle, and the other Inova's don't.

It cost $ 46 plus tax.

It lacks a dimmer setting.

You could probably mount it to the side of your helmet, but it
may be too big and heavy for that.

For some reason, none of the latest bright LED flashlights are using
collators or diffusers.Apparently, this is because they use up some
of the light and bounce it backwards where it is not recovered. For caving,
wouldn't you rather have a smooth spread out beam, than a little bit
brighter light?Or why not both? Why not a dual-LED flashlight, with
a head kind of like the Stenlight, but with 1 LED light diffused and collated
and the other wide open?

[Texascavers] New LED Flashlight

2007-03-26 Thread David Locklear
Inova has a new 4 watt LED flashlight that is sold
at the Gander Mountain store. The light is called
the T4

http://www.flashlightsunlimited.com/images/Inova/T4.jpg

What is really cool about this light is it has
a lithium-ion battery pack.

The price was around $ 110, which includes the re-charger.

It appears to be a well constructed flashlight.

It puts out 100 lumens for 2 hours, so with 3 of these in your
pack and a spare battery pack, you could stay under
ground in a huge cave for at least 8 hours.

Is that enough light to do video?

The light is slightly too big to mount on the side of the
helmet, and too heavy to be mounted that way.

This light requires a special battery pack, so you would
have to carry some extras, which would be expensive.
