Rats... I'm not using the PartTiddlerPlugin... It's got to have some other cause too... [tw] Re: TiddlyWiki and iPhone: what's it like
I use it on an iPad - not the same as an iPhone I know - but there's an app for tiddlywikis (TWMobile is the iPad version and TWEdit the iPhone one... AndTidWiki is listed at tiddlywiki.com for the android) that lets you save it to the iPhone/iPad. For me, I save it both locally and online to the tiddlyspot account I got (free if you haven't made one). Thus... I have a local copy on the go I reference, and a synced online one for most of my desktop work. After desktop work, I download it again, use iTunes, and transfer it to the TWMobile app (very quick to do this as it doesn't require a whole sync of the phone). The trick for the iphone is to get an interface that is usable on the small screen. I put the sidebar items I wanted in the sitesubtitle tiddler and cut the sidemenu out completely. It took me a bit to get used to the two finger scrolling to scroll the contents of a tiddler that was longer than the screen, and some tinkering with the stylesheet tiddler to increase the font sizes to a more readable one. Thus, the possibilities are there... try typing on the notepad app on a demo phone at the store... If you are ok with what you type and read, you likely will be ok with a wiki on a phone, but if you are not... then you likely won't like it... Hope this helps... I can answer my own question here :) Eric did build this ability into the plugin, but you have to have the table sorting plugin installed. http://tw.lewcid.org/#TableSortingPlugin Thanks Eric and Saq! [tw] Re: Sorting ShowLocalDirectory
I can answer my own question :) After looking through the code I realized Eric did have this ability built in, but you have to have the TableSortingPlugin (http:// tw.lewcid.org/#TableSortingPlugin) installed, and then presto! The table is sortable by name, or date, or size... Thanks Eric (for anticipating this need)! Rich -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "TiddlyWiki" group. [tw] Sorting ShowLocalDirectory
Hi All I'm using Eric Shulman's ShowLocalDirectory plugin (http:// www.TiddlyTools.com/#ShowLocalDirectory) which gives me all the files in a directory, sorted alphabetically, with last modified date and size, and the filename as a link to the file. If I keep all work products for a student in one folder (which is in the same directory as the tiddlywiki), I can make a tiddler named after the student, and this plugin provides a nifty way to show a listing of all their work drafts. I modified it a little to show the filename, modification date, and a link to a tiddler with the file name where I can put notes. I tried having it show the tiddler contents instead of the tiddler link (<\>). If the tiddler exists, the contents show up fine, but if the tiddler is nonexistant, it seems to show the directory file listing twice more. I'm not sure why. I'd like to use this to track drafts of students' work, and sorting by the modification date would be really useful - ideally newest to oldest. By default, the results are sorted by file name (I'm guessing the OS default is the determining factor here). Questions: 1) Do any of you know a way to sort by modification date as the default? OR Eric would this be something simple to add in? (I'm guessing not but I thought I'd ask)... 2) Any ideas on how to prevent the file listing from showing up more than once if the tiddler is nonexistant? If it helps, I'm using version TiddlyWiki 2.6.0 in Firefox 3.6.12 but the issue appears in IE 8.0.7600 too. Thanks! [tw] Re: TiddlyWiki for Research and Dissertation
Hi All I wrote my dissertation in Wordperfect... both times since a virus wiped it out the first time :( I use TW now for organizing my classes - tiddlers tagged "Week01", "Week 02"... display other tiddlers tagged "Week01 LectureNotes", "Week01 HandOuts", "Week01 ReqReadings"... This way, I can see each week's materials by looking at that week's tiddler, or use ForEachTiddler statements to see all readings, handouts, or lecture notes in one place... I put my notes in tiddlers so I can also search for specific terms and find which lecture included them, or cross link things like definitions of a term to any place I use it. I think this would translate to dissertations easily. 1) Create tiddlers tagged for the dissertation sections ("Abstract" "Chapter01", "Methodology" etc...) and have them display other tiddlers tagged "Chapter01 MyTasks" "Chapter01 ToRead", and "Chapter01 UsedRefs" followed by your writing for that chapter (in a tiddler is possible... but that may be taking it too far... or a link to the doc file you are writing it in). Keep in mind that the tiddler titles could be whatever you wanted them to be, and so could be more descriptive... but naming them to match these tags would make it easier to use templates and pass $1 and $2 variables... 2) "MyTasks" could be either a bullet list of "next actions" in GTD terms for that chapter, like get an article, talk to your chair about something, email a researcher somewhere with a question... or a ForEachTiddler 'ed list of anything tagged "Chapter01 MyTasks", meaning a tiddler for each task, which would give you a place to put notes about the conversation with your chair or a place to include a copy of the email exchange with the other researcher... or both - a short list of one step tasks followed by the ForEachTiddler statement for only the things that needed notes... Keep in mind you could add a "Done" tag to tasks after they were done, as well as add a "Pending" tag to tasks needing later follow up action. You would then use three ForEachTiddler statments --one to show all tiddlers tagged MyTasks but NOT Pending and NOT Done to see current actions --one to show all tiddlers tagged MyTasks AND Pending and NOT Done to show those needing follow up or reminding --one to show all tiddlers tagged MyTasks AND Pending AND Done to show your notes on tasks 3) "ToRead" could list articles and chapters to read, either as a single tiddler that just had a bullet point list or as a tiddler with a ForEachTidder statement that showed every tiddler tagged "Chapter01 ToRead MyNotes". The tiddlers tagged this way would have the properly formed reference (without any hard returns in it) as the first line, a blank line or two, and then your notes below... you could add a link to the pdf for the resource too. These tiddlers should be named "Lastname - Whatever" where Lastname is the author's last name and Whatever is your description of the resource. 4) Once you decided to use an article or chapter in your dissertation, change the tags for the tiddler for that resource to "Chapter01 UsedRefs". The ForEachTiddler documentation has an example of how to list all tiddlers tagged a certain way, and return the first line of text from the tiddler. At the end of your "Chapter01" tiddler... or in a References tiddler... include a ForEachTiddler statement that returns the first line of everything tagged "Chapter01 UsedRefs"... or just everything tagged UsedRefs... and since they are named with the author's last name as the first word in the title, an alphabetical sort (the default) would give you an alphabetical reference list. You could tinker with the code and have it display the first line as a clickable link to the tiddler for that resource, or display something like [[.|tiddlertitle]] at the end of the reference, and so the reference would not be clickable, but the final period at the end of it would take you to that reference's tiddler to see your notes and a link to it... Attaching links to documents likely means keeping a local copy of the TW on your flashdrive, but everything else could be done on tiddlyspot for example, and you could access your work anywhere you had an internet connection... and keep a local backup just in case... did I mention a virus wiped out my dissertation? Just some ideas... Richard -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "TiddlyWiki" group. To post to this group, send email to tiddlyw...@googlegroups.com. [tw] Re: Announcing Tiddlywiki 2.5.3
For Frederick and Martin and Jeremy I haven't been following the group too closely for about a year due to heavy work obligations, but I caught this notice and thought I should post. I got a lot of help about two years ago from many people customizing the basic tiddlywiki for our needs at school. TiddlyWiki has been a simple yet still very flexible tool - over the last two years I've found seven different needs (two in the last month, which is what prompts me to post after so long) that a customized tiddlywiki could meet far better than a complex database, a bunch of word docs, a paper system In case you don't hear it much, thanks for all the work you (and others around the group who answer questions, bug test, write plugins...) put in to making tiddlywiki such an excellent tool!
