[Touch-packages] [Bug 1362150] Re: [Greeter] SIM PIN unlock usability needs improving
The best way to indicate to the user that the SIM card(s) are locked is to bring up the unlock screen again once the dialer, messaging or any other apps requiring a SIM are launched. The lock screen visual can be contextual for every app and user will be able to unlock the SIM(s) directly, without navigating somewhere else. It appears that if you click on it it goes back to the welcome screen. I find the X triggering an action that is not hinted, someone could guess the X is to clear the passcode (at this point it would better be placed next to the passcode entry). If we want to quit the lockscreen, we might want to put a back button where we usually have in our designs: next to the top left of the header (otherwise we should making it clearer with a button with Close label). Either way, I find the placement unfortunate next to the emergency call button too. On SIM PIN, there's at least a symmetrical ✓ on the right. When you have limited screen real estate eg: most budget laptops are 1366 x 768 and have quite a few items on the launcher bar , it can be a bit unweildy to find the app you are looking for. My Idea is thus :- Add a feature to the Unity bar whereby apps are ordered by frequency used - most frequently used apps appear at the top of the list and least used towards the bottom. the Ubuntu button should always remain at the top , independant of the sort. If this were to be implemented then the user should be able to enable / disable it from the control panel if they wise to have the current operation. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1363214] Re: [System Settings] [design] allow PINs of variable length instead of just 4 digits

This is artificially limiting. Other platforms (eg Android) allow longer PINs. It has always been my understanding that we should support Swipe, Passphrase and PIN where Passphrase and PIN can be arbitrarily long. However, once longer PINs are supported, we will have to add an Enter key. Right now, the lockscreen checks the PIN once 4 digits are added so that you don't have to press Enter. I guess this was done for usability, but would be a security issue because an attacker can easily determine the PIN length, which makes it easier to for an attacker to guess the PIN. Eg, if I have a 5 digit PIN set, then an attacker need only type '1' and know that the PIN is only five characters. Now, a PIN isn't strong to begin with and an automated attack could rather quickly brute force PINs, but we shouldn't make it easier for someone manually trying to guess the PIN. The passphrase lockscreen prompt correctly allows variable length passphrases and requires you to press Enter. I suggest moving the 'X' up t the left of '0' and an Enter symbol to the rigth of '0'. ** Changed in: ubuntu-ux Status: Fix Committed = Fix Released -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to address-book-app in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1228369 Title: [Address Book] [Dialer] Contacts usability Status in Address Book App: Fix Released Status in Dialer app for Ubuntu Touch: Fix Released Status in Ubuntu UX bugs: Fix Released Status in “address-book-app” package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in “dialer-app” package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Bug description: These all relate to usability concerns with the contacts app and the contacts view in the dialer. This is with image, 57. 1 - there is no visible way to distinguish the contacts app vs the contacts view in the dialer other than a subtle hint that there are more tabs in the top panel. As they have different features available this can be a bit confusing. 2 - the list is too long to search and even with the letter shortcuts can take some time, search should be restored even if with a short term fix 3 - when adding a new contact, the gray help text to fill in the fields is not at all visible, probably needs different font treatment, not matching the mockups 4 - there is no filtering support so the All Contacts phrase has no context unless its as opposed to favorites, but with no favorites seems very odd. 5 - the ability to go directly to a letter is nice, perhaps we need some indication that this option exists, although once learned its fine. Its also not accessible if you have favorites, the user needs to scroll up first. Perhaps Favorites category should also collapse and provide an entry to the quick select. Would be better if the in-call screen remained on screen for a few seconds, during which you can see the call length etc., and pressing the button would close it. Eg, family members who have different mobile numbers but live at the same residence, business contacts who have the same number but a different extension, etc. Sometimes the dialer-app will show the wrong contact is being dialed when dialing the number. Steps to reproduce: 1. Open the contacts app 2. add a contact, 'Foo' with mobile number and shared home number 3. add a contact, 'Bar' with different mobile number, but same home number as '2' 4. open 'Foo' in the contacts app, then press the phone icon next to the shared home number, and the dialer-app opens At this point, 'Foo' should be shown as being dialed, but instead, 'Bar' is shown as being dialed.
