[Touch-packages] [Bug 1362150] Re: [Greeter] SIM PIN unlock usability needs improving

2014-09-11 Thread Olga Kemmet
The best way to indicate to the user that the SIM card(s) are locked is to
bring up the unlock screen again once the dialer, messaging or any other apps
requiring a SIM are launched.
The lock screen visual can be contextual for every app and user will be able to
unlock the SIM(s) directly, without navigating somewhere else.
E.g. dialer: You have to unlock your SIM(s), before you can make a phone
call.

Thoughts?

  Add feedback on failed attempts
   - The dialog tells you how many attempts you have remaining before a PUK
code will be required
   - Entering the wrong PIN will result in a clear message to user of the
failure and an update of the attempts remaining count

After cancelling SIM unlock, how to unlock is not obvious:
  1.Insert this SIM card
  2.Power on device
  3. Popup SIM PIN unlock interface after power on device
  4. cancel this dialog
  5. Go to phone app to make a call
It is not obvious that the next step should be to drag down the indicator and
use the unlock button.

the phone and messaging apps should have a shorthand button clearly
visible to unlock the relevant SIM so that the user does not have to
know to go to the indicator-network first to be able to make
  phonecalls or send SMS

As previously discussed, a long press is always triggering a contextual
menu and it shouldn't be different in this use case. For further
releases we can implement more actions into the menu, e.g. copy,
forward, etc..

It appears that if you click on it it goes back to the welcome screen.

I find the X triggering an action that is not hinted, someone could
guess the X is to clear the passcode (at this point it would better be
placed next to the passcode entry).

If we want to quit the lockscreen, we might want to put a back button
where we usually have in our designs: next to the top left of the
header (otherwise we should making it clearer with a button with
  Close label).

Either way, I find the placement unfortunate next to the emergency
call button too. On SIM PIN, there's at least a symmetrical ✓ on the
  right.

In the case of SIM PIN, this X also results in Skip and not
Cancel, so it's even more confusing.

Having the keyboard auto-hide when it is no longer needed would be a

  Desired solution:

Auto-hide behaviour should be handled by the application as different

This is something that you will hopefully think is a good idea , or at
least spurn a discussion for further improvements.

When you have limited screen real estate eg: most budget laptops are 1366 x
768 and have quite a few items
on the launcher bar , it can be a bit unweildy to find the app you are
looking for.

  My Idea is thus :-

Add a feature to the Unity bar whereby apps are ordered by frequency used -
most frequently used apps appear at the
top of the list and least used towards the bottom.

the Ubuntu button should always remain at the top , independant of the
  sort.

If this were to be implemented then the user should be able to enable /
disable it from the control panel
if they wise to have the current operation.

I think this would be a great useability improvement.

  Thanks

  Nick

This is a breakaway bug from bug 1347001.

During a call, position the phone such that the proximity sensor is
not enabled, i.e. put phone on table. Let the screen shut off after
  an idle timeout.

The screen should turn on when the phone is moved or screen is
touched. This is what Android and iOS do anyway, and probably what
  users expect.

I'm assuming that powerd is the logical place to have that logic, but
maybe I'm wrong. Please feel free to re-assign.

Bug description:
Currently when setting a PIN on the device, it must be 4 digits. This
is artificially limiting. Other platforms (eg Android) allow longer
PINs. It has always been my understanding that we should support
Swipe, Passphrase and PIN where Passphrase and PIN can be arbitrarily
  long.

However, once longer PINs are supported, we will have to add an Enter
key. Right now, the lockscreen checks the PIN once 4 digits are added
so that you don't have to press Enter. I guess this was done for
usability, but would be a security issue because an attacker can
easily determine the PIN length, which makes it easier to for an
attacker to guess the PIN. Eg, if I have a 5 digit PIN set, then an
attacker need only type '1' and know that the PIN is only five
characters. Now, a PIN isn't strong to begin with and an automated
attack could rather quickly brute force PINs, but we shouldn't make it
easier for someone manually trying to guess the PIN.

The passphrase lockscreen prompt correctly allows variable length
passphrases and requires you to press Enter.

I suggest moving the 'X' up t the left of '0' and an Enter symbol to
  the rigth of '0'.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1370146] Re: [sdk] adjust behaviour UI in multi select mode

2014-09-17 Thread Olga Kemmet
** Description changed:

  Steps to reproduce:

  1. Open Messaging app (or Address Book app, Phone app), make sure you have a
list in your messages view
  2. Long press on any of the list items

  Actual Result:
  3. Header is changing and shows an X button on the left hand side and two
action buttons on the right hand side. Selection checkboxes appear from the
left hand side.

  Expected result - desired solution:
- - The header should display a BACK button instead of the X on the left hand
side, same as we have in all other headers from the right hand side
+ - The header should display a BACK button instead of the X on the left hand
side, same as we have in all other headers
  - Remove the change in the background colour when a list item is selected,
change in the colour of the checkbox is enough
  - Add labels for all visible actions in this mode in the header, including
BACK for the back button
  - Tapping on the BACK in this mode, cancels the multi-select mode and does
NOT navigate back to the previous view
  - There is no title in this header

-
Please see attached wireframe for reference. This change applies across
all apps which use a multi select in their list views.

  TEST CASE:
  1. Open the dialer and place a call
  2. Switch on the loud speaker and put your phone flat on the table.
  3. Get your hand close to the sensor

  ACTUAL RESULT
The screen turns off and user cannot interact with the dialer app

The screen should turn on when the phone is moved or screen is

See here for more info on dash pagination states:

  UX Testing Report finding recommendation:

No incentive to discover scopes beyond the apps scope. Lack of
strong visual cues to hint swiping from the apps scope to discover
  more scopes on the right.

In the SURU divider pagination pattern (as currently used by the
Dash), change the selected colour from orange to white.

When the Scopes slide, the SURU divider portion of the screen should
not slide (it should remain static). The state of the 'dot'
pagination pattern should of course change. Keeping the SURU divider
static should make the change to the pagination pattern more
  noticeable.

  No visual feedback is displayed

This is the result of the fix for
https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity8/+bug/1351539 where a loading bar has been
added at the bottom of the screen. However the keyboard is on top of it.

I suggest doing what Mike Nagle (mikenagle) wrote on 2014-07-21 in
https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity8/+bug/1285731:
Scope should display an activity indicator just under the divider. However,
we need a thin, horizontal one that isn't the spinner.

Bug description:

  Thanks

  Nick

In the new image the shell appears on the application switch (right

there. But at least for me there is some small problems that can cause
  confusion.

1- The shell appear in different positions - On the application
switcher the shell appears always in a different position in my case I
was using only one app and sometimes the shell appear os top of it
sometimes on bottom of it, this is annoying since most of the cases I
want to interact with the app and i need to find it on the list
because the shell is jumping btw the positions. If the shell appears
always on the back will be easy to find the app.

2 - If you go to a empty scope (my Video scope is empty there is only
the title), and enter in the application switcher is very difficult to
know what is the shell and what is an application, they have the same
  visuals .

Bug description:
These all relate to usability concerns with the contacts app and the
contacts view in the dialer. This is with image, 57.

1 - there is no visible way to distinguish the contacts app vs the contacts
view in the dialer other than a subtle hint that there are more tabs in the top
panel. As they have different features available this can be a bit confusing.
2 - the list is too long to search and even with the letter shortcuts can
take some time, search should be restored even if with a short term fix
3 - when adding a new contact, the gray help text to fill in the fields is
not at all visible, probably needs different font treatment, not matching the
mockups
4 - there is no filtering support so the All Contacts phrase has no context
unless its as opposed to favorites, but with no favorites seems very odd.
5 - the ability to go directly to a letter is nice, perhaps we need some
indication that this option exists, although once learned its fine. Its also
not accessible if you have favorites, the user needs to scroll up first.
Perhaps Favorites category should also collapse and provide an entry to the
quick select.

Bug description:
Whenever I look at the phone after I've stopped the conversation,
there's a brief time when I can still see the in-call screen, and try
to press the end call button. If the remote party ended the call
already, the in-call screen escapes just as I touch the screen.

Would be better if the in-call screen remained on screen for a few
seconds, during which you can see the call length etc., and pressing
the button would close it. Preferably even in concert with the
  proximity sensor.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1227732] Re: You can quit the dialer app during active call

2014-07-30 Thread Olga Kemmet
Ubuntu-ux: marking as Fix Released because the communications hub spec
is covering this use case and I can confirm that the desired solution
has been implemented, there's an hint in the panel when there's a call
in progress, and even if you close the dialer, you can get back to the
call by tapping it. (saviq)

  1. start a call
  2. go to dash
  3. close the phone app

  What happens:
The call continues and there is no way to know if we really are in a call.

  What should happen:
There should be an indicator in the top bar to show that the call is in
progress with a way to directly switch to the call, as we see in Android.

Bug description:
There are circumstances when contacts will legitimately have the same
phone number. Eg, family members who have different mobile numbers but
live at the same residence, business contacts who have the same number
but a different extension, etc. Sometimes the dialer-app will show the
wrong contact is being dialed when dialing the number. Steps to
  reproduce:

  1. Open the contacts app
  2. add a contact, 'Foo' with mobile number and shared home number
  3. add a contact, 'Bar' with different mobile number, but same home number as
'2'
  4. open 'Foo' in the contacts app, then press the phone icon next to the
shared home number, and the dialer-app opens

At this point, 'Foo' should be shown as being dialed, but instead,
'Bar' is shown as being dialed.

On Android , when entering a number in the dialer it is automatically
formatted to look like how you would display a phone number rather

  Touch.

  Example:

Number dialed on Android: (555) 555-
