Re: [Trisquel-users] Partition table suggested for installing three GNU/Linux systems
It wouldn't **prevent** you from using popcorntime. Unless maybe you stream a 1080p movie that is 4 hours long.. But yeah - better make it 3 gb or 4 gb. That way you can stream 2 fullhd movies without having to close and reopen popcorntime in between
Re: [Trisquel-users] will there be an updated 6.0 iso ?

Re: [Trisquel-users] The end of YouTube API v2

Re: [Trisquel-users] Plank docky
I tried cairo dock and docky. Ughh, so heavy an full of useless nonsense! Really didn't like them. I finally managed to solve the issue with plank (which is a great dock - fast and simple, only 20 mb ram usage..great!). Right click on desktop - create launcher. You create your launcher, assign an icon, a path .. Then you cut and paste that launcher in a folder of your choice (I placed each launcher in the folder of the application). Left click hold and move the launcher (example - Musique.desktop) over the plank dock and release the left mouse bottom - that's it: you have your launcher in plank! cheers!
Re: [Trisquel-users] The end of YouTube API v2
Here is the beta of the new smtube. It's in early developement (you can't downloads the vids, for instance) but it works great for searching and streaming. http://sourceforge.net/projects/smplayer/files/SMTube/15.5/ compile with: qmake make Also if you fancy a GUI for youtube-dl: https://github.com/MrS0m30n3/youtube-dl-gui/releases

Re: [Trisquel-users] Need help with ClamTK GUI update.
Welcome to the Trisquel community! If you are concerned about passing windose malware to your friends who use the proprietary OS, an antivirus makes sense. Otherwise you don't need that when you use GNU. Don't blindly trust external .debs and repositories. Install software using the Trisquel repositories or compile the ones you need and are not available in the reps. cheers!
[Trisquel-users] Plank docky
I installed the plank docky and I like it very much. It's lightweight, simple and nice. The problem is I can't find a way to keep in the dock custom launchers - example - I'd like to place the launcher for musique or for Popcorn-Time in the docky, so I open musique and right click on the icon on the dock but there is no keep in dock option. Then I went to /home/.config/plank/launchers and created the .dockitem files for the applications I'd like to add and see that there are new launchers in the dock but it doesn't work. I also created the .desktop files in the /home/.local/share/applications folder. Has anyone tried this docky? If so, do you know of a workaround? I asked on their IRC channel a couple of times but there were like 5 people there and total silence, no response at all.. p.s - what is the most lightweight dock that you've ever used?
Re: [Trisquel-users] The end of YouTube API v2
Hi onpon! VLC works just fine. I'm talking about the searching function yes. Anyway there is a good news - http://smtube.sourceforge.net/

don't repo nuff' - compile! also take a look at this handy solution for downloading the vids - http://blog.smplayer.info/how-to-download-videos-with-the-new-smtube/ mao!
Re: [Trisquel-users] anyone using Trisquel for music production?
Almost forgot to post this: The current version of GNUetertics by default contains an Iceweasel addon video download helper that is not free software. The addon will be removed from the next release. Re: [Trisquel-users] Qualcomm Atheros AR242x / AR542X Wireless
I see. Try searching on the net, although it is somehow a difficult and rare issue to search on, being that opensourcerers just install non-libre drivers and solve their issues by putting proprietary code into their boxes..
Re: [Trisquel-users] Mic won't work for voice chat - running Trisquel 6 on Acer Aspire One
I did a search. There are several posts dealing with Bubbuntu and acer one (not your exact model but they're all very similar I guess). Here are the links I found. I didn't read them (just the first one). I have no idea if they suggest installing some proprietary driver. If they do.. don't!! And don't try skype! skype is spying on its users and selling their data. That is at least what I've read on several websites, and being proprietary software and owned by microshit it wouldn't surprise me if it was so, or better yet, I really think it does so! Proprietary software is very bad for several other reasons. I hope those links can give you an idea and point you in the right direction! http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1971229 https://askubuntu.com/questions/131170/how-to-get-microphone-to-work-on-acer-aspire-one-722 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f2HYyRgue_8 https://askubuntu.com/questions/264505/install-acer-aspire-one-zg5-microphone-on-ubuntu-12-10 https://askubuntu.com/questions/23036/microphone-not-working-at-all-in-skype http://community.skype.com/t5/Linux/Microphone-input-does-not-work-with-Ubuntu-12-04-LXLE-on-Acer/td-p/3240666 https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alsa-driver/+bug/940841 https://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/linux-laptop-and-netbook-25/mic-issue-with-acer-aspire-one-10-in-ubuntu-unr-729158/

Re: [Trisquel-users] Watching live streaming video without Flash
When I want to see a sportsing event (baketball) I stream it with VLC. You need to find an address and you want to paste it in VLC (ctrl+v). This page contains some addresses - http://iptv-zak.blogspot.it/ There are several websites like this one on the net. Problem is most streaming addresses change in a couple of days or weeks at most. The good thing is that those websites usually give you the latest addresses which should work. Say you want to stream a foosball match. You need to know on which TV channel it is. Once you know the channel, you need to find the address of the channel and paste it in VLC. Example - You find Barcellona vs Juventus is on Bein 1. You paste this address in VLC and bring the popcorn. http://streamindo.ddns.net/jhos/beib1_5/streamindo/playlist.m3u8
Re: [Trisquel-users] Watching live streaming video without Flash
You are welcome! I would be interested too to know if it is possible to curl a stream.

Re: [Trisquel-users] New Intel graphics will require non-free firmware
If this is really the case, it is a big problem for us. A mate in the Spanish forum was just writing about it. https://trisquel.info/en/forum/la-nueva-microarquitectura-de-intel-skylake-va-requirir-un-blob-binario-en-el-m%C3%B3dulo-i915-drm#comment-70941 We agree that we, as libre software users can do 2 things. Send a letter to INTEL each on our own or unite all our signatures into one letter and send it - union makes us strong! If, and I repeat IF this proves to be true, I think letting Intel hear our voice is a good idea. Cheers!

Yes. And the debs in Ubuntu are cooked by the same people who provide the sourcecode of the same. I trust their sourcecode. I don't trust their debs. Who guarantees you that nothing was added to the deb?

This is a libre software forum. Please stop recommending proprietary software and distros containing proprietary software. Consider that proprietary software (firmware included) is never a solution but a huge problem. Forums like this and distros like Trisquel were made in the first place to avoid the users such problem, that is, being forced to use proprietary software.

Re: [Trisquel-users] Nvidia FX5200, GeForce 7200 GS
I see no problem in using any libre (100% libre) OS. I do see a problem when someone recommends non-free distros on a Trisquel forum. There are better solutions to this particular problem rather than recommending elementary OS and similar nonsense. Did the OP try Trisquel 6 for instance? Maybe an older kernel with older drivers for the Nvidia card he owns would cut it.

Re: [Trisquel-users] Security Enhanced Linux Kernel? Eh? What's going on here? O.o!
The Debian project as a whole is pretty big on privacy, security, and software freedom-- as much as Trisquel is, I'd say. Just because the module was written by the NSA doesn't mean it's malicious. The module's been pretty much eyed by many people, so you've nothing to worry about. well said girl!

Saying that google is very much entangled with the US gov is neither a conspiracy nor a theory. It is rather a mere fact. We know that from the Snowden files.

The card works. The signal is weak. You need to increase the signal. How? I have no idea other then some pretty obvious stuff like getting the lappy near the router or pointing the antennas of the router in the lappy's direction. Or buying another wifi adapter (they are very cheap on ebay. you want an atheros AR9xxx or AR5xxx). cheers

Re: [Trisquel-users] Trisquel Linux Libre and Debian Linux
Yes. Debian is by default 100% libre (it has been since Debian 6). The kernel is deblobbed. Yes. You can install the jxself's kernel in Debian. In fact I am using 3.10.80 in Debian 8 stable Xfce and everything works flawlessly. I get all the updates. I have an ati crap and recent kernels have issue with screen resolution with ati graphics. So I installed the older kernel from the jxself's repo. Cheers!

Re: [Trisquel-users] what repositories in debian 8 are free software?
hi tonlee! REMEMBER: only main. NO contrib and ABSOLUTELY NOT non-free. This page will help you understand how to set your sources.list properly - https://wiki.debian.org/SourcesList I can already tell you to set it like this (no need for backports unless you want to mix stable components of Debian with components from Debian Testing, although adjusted and recompiled, which can lead to a non-stable system, that is crashes and general headaches). Read about backports here: http://backports.debian.org/ deb http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/ jessie main deb-src http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/ jessie main deb http://security.debian.org/ jessie/updates main deb-src http://security.debian.org/ jessie/updates main deb http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/ jessie-updates main deb-src http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/ jessie-updates main This is all you need in your sources.list cheers!
Re: [Trisquel-users] How inconvenient freedom can be?
Compiling is much easier than it first appears to be. Just start with easy ones. Read the instructions. And try to understand the outputs of the messages. When you reach a point of no-go in compiling it will output an error message that contains the answer to solve it. Compile happy people, compile! Much better than blindly trusting external .debs!

I found a known TB bug with the same problem and some suggestions that disabling the new mail sound alert would fix it. I tried that but it still froze. I then disabled the 'show message alert' function (which hadn't worked anyway) and now new emails are coming in fine, no freezing.

Re: [Trisquel-users] How to shut up Windows users
I'm not gonna click on that link. I don't care much about windo$e users. I find them boring. You shouldn't waste your time with those who don't care and don't listen. I will tell you the big points you should use to educate someone you care about to switch to the magnificent GNU OS: - free software respects you and everyone around you. It is made by a community for the community. Transparency. - Free software is about freedom and social justice (instead private OSes are about dependency and profit for the corporations) - why pay for a backdoored OS that keeps restricting your possibilities (DRM and malware) and sells your private info to the highest bidder? - Why in the world should one give money to some idiot like Bill Gapes or whatever? -You pay for software that you cannot share with your friends and sometimes not even use on a different hardware than the one you're on when you made the purchase. Really? How stupid is that? - You will not catch a virus on GNU. Your hard-drive is not gonna fragment with usage. Your Os will be fast and smooth on day 718 as it was on day 1. - apt update upgrade takes care of all the software on your computer. Everything is always magically updated to the latest version. - You pay for an antivirus that gives you a mere illusion of safety (the windozz OS is backdoored and there is no anti-whatever for that). - Performance on a same computer when comparing GNU and Winzozz is clearly stellar on GNU and shitty on Winzozz (and on that ShitOS it gets worse with time due to the registry stupid architecture, malware and fragmentation etc etc..) -BSOD. Need I say more? Stability and reliability. - People install windose and all they learn about their OS is how to change the wallpaper :P With GNU you decide how your desktop should look like and set it exactly how you want it. - If you install and use GNU for some time you may actually learn something even if you are not a programmer.. I'm sure there are more points. Feel free to add. cheers!
