I haven't used alpha2 much, but I can attest that it starts and logs in on win2k. However I did use alpha1 a fair bit without much trouble, and I would assume that it only got better. Also, gaim is very stable in linux, so there is no problem with the actual code base. We might also want to provide the .dll's and binaries for lame, which is, IMHO, the best mp3 encoder. Given the more zealous push to collect royalties, a campaign to switch to .ogg wouldn't be a bad idea. Also, a number of people might be interested in video game console emulation. A lot of projects are being GPL'd, so providing emulators and some public domain ROM images would be a cool idea. -Bill On Monday 14 October 2002 03:53 pm, you wrote: If we decide to go with gnupg it might be a good idea to use winpt(http://www.winpt.org) as it offers a nice gui interface to gpg and most windows user have an irrational fear of using a console. Some other ideas would include AbiWord (an excellent light weight word processor - http://abisource.com), gAIM (an instant messenger client, talks pretty much every protocol you can think of - http://gaim.sf.net), and CDex (a cd ripper/encoder, suports ogg vorbis - http://cdexos.sf.net) If this is targeting CS/Math people (as I would guess it is if the discs are being handed out in Violette) we might was to include some programming tools. I've found that Dev-C++ is decent Free C/C++ IDE (http://bloodshed.net). Also I really like SciTE (http://www.scintilla.org/SciTE.html). Also, it might be a good idea to only inclue things that are available for both win32 and linux, because already knowing how to use various tools would make switching that much easier. (Doing that would knock winpt, cdex, and dev-c++ off my list) - To get off this list, send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with Subject: unsubscribe -
