[ubuntu-art] The Brickyard - Week of 11/19/2010

2010-11-19 Thread j_baer

The following is a summary of Artwork Team activity for the week of
11/19/2010 :-)

* Screenshots @ Ubuntu.com *

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Artwork/Specs/Request-4 Request 4 on the project
board. This topic received the most discussion and brain storming. As a
result, Ivanka from the Design Team decided to place this task on hold
pending further review and advice from the author of
"screensh...@debian.net".

* Nucleus Meeting Called *

As a result of the renewed activity of the Team, Martin Owens ( "doctorno" )
scheduled an IRC meeting to discuss topics such as leadership, grievance,
and other processes of the team.

11/26 - 16:00 UTC on the IRC

* Xubuntu and Edubuntu Natty Wallpapers *

The Xubuntu and Edubuntu communities posted requests to the project board
for wallpaper submissions. If I remember correctly, there was a thread some
time back where many members indicated creating wallpapers was their
interest.

I believe this is an excellent opportunity for the team!

* Artwork Team Logo Update *

The submissions are still being posted and the quality and creativity is
excellent. Thank you! The deadline is closing in (12/01) but there is still
time for more ideas and submissions. As I stated before this is a high
visibility icon which will add value to the team and the community. Don't be
shy. :-)

http://www.flickr.com/groups/uawt-1/ Submissions

* Personal Note of Gratitude *

I could not have been more pleased to see a post on the LibreOffice list
which praised the guidance given by Thorsten to that community. Unsolicited
comments like this are a true indicator of the talented membership of this
team.

Thank you Thorsten and members for contributing your time and talent to the
Ubuntu community.

:-)

Re: [ubuntu-art] Ubuntu Posters for Zimbabwe

2010-11-19 Thread Martin Owens
Hey Raymond,

OK so there are no set requirements, but there are some good guidelines
and examples:

http://spreadubuntu.org/en/get-materials?field_media_value_many_to_one=Poster&field_purpose_value_many_to_one=All&field_derivative_value_many_to_one=All&field_version_value_many_to_one=All

You can download the sources to a lot of those posters and simply edit
them for your own use and redesign elements if you like. I like using
svg as it's the most flexible source format but it's up to you if you
like using Inkscape.

Once you've completed your poster, please do post it to spread ubuntu to
share the work. Also making sure to post your sources.

Best of Luck, Martin Owens

[ubuntu-art] [request] Application branding

2010-11-19 Thread Сергей
Hello everyone!

Here's another thing to add to our Tasks page: it's Ubuntu-branded apps
initiative led by Scott Ritchie. It first appeared in Karmic, but Ubuntu
branding has changed since then, so half of artwork created for Karmic needs
updating. See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/branding for more info.

I've looked through the current state of the effort (as delivered to
Maverick desktop) and that's what I found:

 * Gnome-games card backs: branded, does not need updating
 * Gnometris background: branded, needs updating
(/usr/share/branding/gnome-games/gnometris/pixmaps/gnometris.svg)
 * Mahjongg tiles: branded, need updating, but that's not very noticeable
(/usr/share/branding/gnome-games/mahjongg/pixmaps/postmodern.svg)
 * GIMP splash screen: not branded; concepts:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Artwork/Incoming/Karmic/Branding_GIMP,
http://ubuntu-art.org/content/show.php/Ubuntu+Gimp+Splash, the one from
example-content
 * OpenOffice splash (LibreOffice since Natty): not branded; concepts:
http://ubuntu-art.org/content/show.php/Ubuntu+Gimp+Splash, I guess we should
collaborate with LibreOffice team on this
 * Eclipse splash: marked branded but I haven't tested myself (and I don't
quite believe it because OpenOffice is marked branded but evidently isn't);
concept: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Artwork/Incoming/Karmic/Branding_Eclipse
 * Blender splash: not branded, no concepts I could find

I propose a branded and high-resolution Totem "nothing played" icon (really
ugly since Karmic AFAIR:

Re: [ubuntu-art] Need Help with Wallpaper Spec

Aspect ratio independent design is a horrible idea regarding
composition. There's not much besides undefined blurriness that won't
look wrong with another then a single intended aspect ratio.

It's also very unnecessary, as there is "Style: Zoom" in background
settings. Isn't that the default? If it is not, that's a bug!

Of course that means you have to deal with varying parts of the image
being cropped, then. See the templates at the bottom of
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Artwork/Documentation/Backgrounds

> * "png" file format

And/or SVG.
Eventually XCF, ORA or KRA (Krita) sources.

> * 1900 x 1200 dimensions { ? }

2560 x 1600 pixels.

> * CC license

Needs to be more specific:
http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/
I guess national instead of the unported version are ok, though I have
no clue about what it means if a french person creates a derivative of a
work that is licensed under a spanish CC license ...

Without the Share-Alike part is OK, too.

> * Suggested palette

More in a sense of "has to go well with these colors we use in the
interface", please not in a sense of "wallpaper must be blue".

> * Theming suggestions

Suggested topics. Desired message and/or characteristics.
