No

It used to be like that, but it's changed.
When you log with a new account you get:
1 Ubuntu CD (1 PC Edition)
1 Ubuntu CD (1 64-bit PC Edition)
One for me, One for a friend
2 Ubuntu CDs (1 PC Edition, 1 64-bit PC Edition)

When I log in with the account where I got some karma with on launchpad
I get this message:
"The Ubuntu community would like to thank you for your contributions to
the Ubuntu project. In recognition of this, we offer you an expanded set
of options for your ShipIt request."

And an additional option to order
10 Ubuntu CDs (8 PC Edition, 2 64-bit PC Edition)

That is, for Ubuntu 7.10 (Gutsy Gibbon)...

greetings,
Jens

hello

since I did some bug triaging and translating on launchpad I can request
10cd's at once when I'm loged in to shipit with my launchpad account...
and I say some, since I really didn't do much...
it might be a boost to get some more involved, but I discovered it the
other way around...

Not for personal use, we can only order them as a LoCoTeam (or a LUG or
similar too, maybe). I think 5 items or such will be the minimum.

I think ordering them together is much better & cheaper anyway (both for
us and for the German LoCoTeam people doing the work).

Hoi,

You can order CDs for free at shipit.ubuntu.com, you can also buy 20 CDs for
about 25€ at https://shop.canonical.com/. But, imho, CD-R are fine for most
people. It may even help them to understand the freely-(re)distributable
facet of free software, once you explain them it's 100% legal (unlike the
Windows CD they got from some friends).

There is a "basic" manual for support points at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/BelgianTeam/SupportPoints

[Ubuntu-be] Obtaining install cd's

2008-01-21 Thread Bert Claes
hi everyone,

I've registered myself as an Ubunut support-point, where one can also obtain
installation-cd's. It seems I am located in an area where there wasn't
anyone yet (centre of sint-niklaas), because I've gotten about seven
requests already for install-cd's or some explanation.

What I was wondering:

Is there any way I can get more official install-cds or should I just (as I
am doing now) keep on giving out CD-Rs of DVD-Rs with the downloaded ISOs?
It seems so "fake" :)

Is there a guideline on how to promote Ubuntu for a casual end-user? I am
just wondering...

Much regards

As discussed in the kickoff meeting we would like to make 2 kind of
"promotional articles" Gadgets and cheaper giveaway things (but that we
could also sell)

For the gadgets I still have no idea, but for the other I would like to
start with printing this design (on short term), afterwards we can still
print other designs too...

I would like to start printing this poster in februari on B2 size paper.
And print a high volume of it to make them cheaper (Around 2000-3000).

So can I add that you need for 10 € of these posters to my list? If I
have enough pre-orders I will print it.

François

I think that it's not a bad idea to create this contact... But we
could do this prior to an install/release party maybe... make them
appear like two weeks before it...

of course, you are 100% right there...
but I was thinking since we have a limited budget we have to consider
our target audience...
a huge marketing campaign with posters all over the country would sure
get the 'ubuntu' name and logo in people's minds..
but we don't have the money, so we need more targeted campaigns.
And this poster is targeted for high-schools and universities, which is
exactly the public I would want to target, so, it is perfect...

that's probably because I'm still in University.

But all I wanted to say actually is that I would want to sponsor some
poster to be put in computer classes and corridors in the university of
Ghent and I really like the poster!

if we get the money to get other posters printed for a different target
audience, that's ok with me :)
the more the better!

2008-01-21 Thread .: liezie :.
Actually, I don't think anyone will install an OS after seeing a poster of
it.
Likewise, I have never bought a can of coke cola because I saw it's posters.
But when Coca Cola turned down it's advertising budget, it was felt directly
in the sales figures.

That's branding for you.

Making a poster that alures to them will connect a feeling of trust and
wellbeing to the Ubuntu name in their minds. It will not make them install
it.

Max-event also prints t-shirts. So if you're going to order posters there, you
might ask if he can lower his price if you order t-shirts AND posters there.

hello

I really like the poster! Very nice...
And indeed, not really for younger kids (15+)
But I don't really think 12year old's are our audience?
Of-course we would like them to use ubuntu, but I don't think a 12year
old will install an operating system after seeing a poster, (no mather
how many colors it has :p) or bother asking his parents/tutors to see a
working copy of it...
So, for me, the poster is perfect to put in belgian schools for 5th or
6th graders and universities...

are there any bigger versions?
are there plans to get them printed in a large amount?
I would like to sponsor €10 to receive ten to hang out in my school
(university Ghent)

greets
Jens
