[Bug 179675] Re: Ubuntu LiveCD doesn't start with a VIA Chrome9 HC graphic card and, when Ubuntu is installed, it works only with VESA drivers

2008-03-02 Thread El Mariachi
I have the same video card with the same problem :(

I wanted to try Ubuntu 7.10 on my wife's laptop. After gnome starts the
mouse pointer appears for 1-2 seconds, and after the screen goes black.

Neither Ctrl+Alt+F1 works nor X-Org restart help. When I enter
Ctrl+Alt+Del I hear a Beep from the PC Speaker, and in a couple of
seconds the CD will be ejected, but the screen is still black, so I have
to power off the PC.

Any solution?

[Bug 32067] Re: the security parameter must be set to share, not user, in smb.conf - Smb/Gnome sharing broken

2008-03-02 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Again, nobody is expecting anybody to fix the issue. Resources are
limited, etc. But is the amount of effort to default to the crossfade
backend, really quantifiable?

Did you read bug #138728? That's an interesting bug about playing being
choppy when using crossfading and it got quite some duplicates. Now look
for other bugs happening when crossfading is used and you will notice
quite some issue there. Right, crossfading is not perfect and it doesn't
seem to be an easy workaround as you would suggest and that's why we did
did this change.

You might be very right about that. But that was exactly my point.
There is little interest, even in fixing default configurations. We're
not even talking code here. Just a different /etc file or gconf
settings.

The statement is just wrong. We do change when they make sense usually.
The example you took is a good one, it has real reason why we did do
that change, you might not know why but that might be because you have
not looked enough at the situation before juging?

Anyway this discussion is out topic for the bug and no really constructive,
let's stop it there

[Bug 197763] [NEW] panel menu entry doesn't show correct icon

In current Hardy Alpha, the seahorse entry under panel - Applications -
Accessories doesn't have the keys icon - it just has a standard application
item as it seems. This is with seahorse 2.21.92-0ubuntu1 .
The seahorse.desktop file contains Icon=seahorse. When creating a seahorse

[Bug 197771] [NEW] numpad not working as expected

2008-03-02 Thread Richard Eames
Public bug reported:

This started a few weeks ago in hardy, it seems the behaviour of the
numlock/numpad has been changed.

Expected behaviour: the computer starts with the numlock light on, and the
numpad used as numerical/mathematical keys, and with the numlock light off the
numpad used as navigation.
Actual behaviour: the computer starts with numlock light on, and the numpad is
used as navigation, pressing the numlock key keeps the light on, but the numpad
keys return to their expected numerical/mathematical behaviour. (Pressing a
third time turns the light off, and returns to navigation)

That's great news. Marking as Confirmed. I read this afternoon on the

[Bug 162187] Re: Wikipedia in Firefox give suggestions

2008-03-02 Thread Data
This is interesting. On my installation of an up-to-date hardy alpha 5 this
works just fine (see screenshot attached). I tried this with the English
Wikipedia search and FF3beta3.
And you have to wait a few seconds until the suggestions show up. It is not as
fast as google's.

Maybe you could clarify this issue:

What search are you using? Also English Wikipedia or another country's?
Have you waited a few seconds for the suggestions to appear?

[Bug 197773] [NEW] Can't boot KDE, kicked to BusyBox instead

2008-03-02 Thread Mads Peter Rommedahl
Public bug reported:

Hi all, I have a problem:
I just installed Kubuntu hardy Alpha 5 on my stationary pc (mounted the iso
through Daemon-tools and installed it through the Wubi-thing).
Now, when I boot up I get to decide whether I want to start XP or Kubuntu. That
sounds great, and I choose Kubuntu, it begins loading Kubuntu, but then for
some reason I end in some command-line called 'BusyBox'.
How do I get out of there? How do I start Kubuntu?

[Bug 186448] Re: Firefox/Thunderbird Preferences Window too short

2008-03-02 Thread Data
I can confirm this for firefox (3 beta 3). See attached screenshot, the
width of the preferences window is to small.

But I just installed thunderbird (2.0.0.12) and there everything is fine. The
preferences window is higher than that from the screenshot of Nattgew.
Nattgew, maybe you could clarify: What version of thunderbird are you using?
Are you sure that you haven't resized it (made too small) manually at some
point?

Btw, I am using an up-to-date version of hardy alpha 5, which was not
dist-upgraded but freshly installed. I just installed thunderbird the
first time, so there is not chance of old config-files lying around with
a user-defined height...

[Bug 197768] Re: Memory usage problem while copying remote files with WebDAV

2008-03-02 Thread Samuel L. B.
Thank you for your bug report!

Are you using Ubuntu Hardy Heron (the testing version)? There's a
similar bug there, bug #196991

Could you try to reproduce this with a SMB, SSH or FTP server? You can
use the System Monitor tool, in the System-Administration menu, to see
how much memory all processes are using. There's no need to copy 800MB,
just copy enough data so that you can see which process is causing this.
Assuming this bug is related to #196991, then the offending process will
probably be gvfsd-something.

[Bug 186448] Re: Firefox/Thunderbird Preferences Window too short

2008-03-02 Thread Data
OK, forget my comment about thunderbird from above.
I just found out the following:
There are different tabs (No real tabs, but similar), with General,
Display, Composition and so on.
Now when you select one tab and close the preferences window, thunderbird
remembers that and shows the same tab, when you open the preferences-windows
again, however, it resizes it so fit the current tab.
That means:
If you left it at a big tab (actually I mean a tab that has much content,
therefore is high) the last time like General or Composition everything is
fine when you open the preferences-window and switch to other tabs.
However, when you have left it at a small tab, like Privacy or Attachments
the last time and then open the preferences window and switch to a big tab, the
window is to small to show the whole content.
Nattgew: Can you confirm?

So everything boils down to this: When the preferences-window is opened,
it should resize to fit the biggest one of the tabs, not the currently
showing one.

[Bug 197651] Re: Compiz doesn't work with an ATI rv100 board by default, while it could

2008-03-02 Thread Tormod Volden
 - The default depth seems 8, which is not very nice.
Looking at your log, it says 24.

 - It's way slower than what I obtain with an xorg.conf file.
Can you try AGPSize? The main difference I can spot is the GART aperture is 8
by default, while you set it to 64 and you get a lot more memory allocated for
textures etc.

 - The keyboard layout is US when I need FR.
Obviously, there's no way to autodetect that :)

It would be nice if you can make a minimal xorg.conf and find out which
option helps. Your xorg.conf is full of voodoo options, many of them are
default anyway and some are not recommended.

[Bug 197781] Re: [Hardy alpha 5] Firefox preferences - some categories to not work

2008-03-02 Thread Data
OK, I just found out:
When opening the preferences the first time (=after firefox started) and then
cycle through the different categories quite fast, so that I select another
category before the current one had a chance to load, the bug occurs.
Those categories, that did not have time to load, are those that do not work
afterwards (as described above).

There is a small work around. In your update manager, unclick the
openoffice.org-hyphenation-en-us option. It will install the other
packages. At least it worked for me!

[Bug 197786] [NEW] Prism apps think I'm offline and no way to change it

When using a 3G modem to connect to the internet, Network Manager does
not understand what is happening. So apps like Firefox and Prism-based
ones think I'm offline. In Firefox this is just a great annoyance,
because it's possible to change (each-and-every-damn-time).

But in Prism-based apps, like prism-google-talk, I get this: This
document cannot be displayed while offline. To go online, uncheck Work

I fixed the start-up crashers for -fullscreen and -root options. This
and the windowid fixes are needed for using xaos as a screensaver. (Test
packages in my PPA.)

 xaos (3.2-7ubuntu1) hardy; urgency=low
 .
   * Merge from debian unstable (LP: #197261), remaining changes:
 - Drop build dependency on libsvga1-dev.
 - Add build dependency on sharutils.
 - Add .desktop file and uuencoded icon.
   * src/ui/ui-drv/x11/ui_x11.c: added window-id option (LP: #189475)
   * src/ui/ui-drv/x11/ui_x11.c: turn off root/fullscreen if windowid
   * src/ui/ui-drv/x11/xlib.c: clean up for -root and -fullscreen

[Bug 194642] Re: name parameter for content-type for attachments should be last

The policy for requesting sponsorship says to mark the bug as
confirmed, but that would seem to downgrade the bug's status. Should
I do so anyway, before requesting sponsorship?

[Bug 194642] Re: name parameter for content-type for attachments should be last

2008-03-02 Thread Michael B. Trausch
Here is the proper fix, against EDS.

Created a new helper function (_camel_header_param_format_append) to
handle the processing of MIME field parameters, and altered the main
function (camel_header_param_list_format_append) to use the new helper
and defer processing of the name= MIME field until last.

This debdiff places the actual patch in debian/patches, and I am
submitting the patch to upstream so that it can be included there, as
well, so hopefully the local patch will be able to go away soon.

Thanks.
