Reported error was ValueError: invalid literal for int() with base 10:
'' - a very old Ubiquity bug 42774 has same message but stack trace
was completely different at a different point.
Cause:
1. Start Kubuntu CD, select 'Install' from the CD menu
2. Do a manual partition. Drive has NTFS XP at sda2 with a rescue NTFS at sda1
and 40GB free space
3. Added 12G XFS partition at sda5 and swap at sda6
4. Set to install bootloader to sda5
5. Installer progressed and copied files then died with the following stack

I just had a look inside syslog, and you learn something new every day
it seems:
It would appear that installing grub onto an XFS logical partition is
disallowed, and this is the underlying cause of the Python stack trace?
I believe bug is still valid however; the installer should catch the failure
and not crash with the integer error message.

Okay downgrading to 3.0.0-12 doesn't change anything, but downgrading to the latest natty-kernel 2.6.38-13-generic seems to have fixed the problem, at least so far (no hangs within two hours now). If someone has the same problem, I just downloaded the natty-kernel here: http://packages.ubuntu.com/natty-updates/linux- image-2.6.38-13-generic and installed it with dpkg -i. [Bug 933453] [NEW] ThinkPad T420s overheats and crashes under 11.10

The most annoying aspect of the behavior is that instead of gracefully suspending or shutting down, the system just abruptly turns off -- in essence, crashes. I just tried a quick suspend-resume cycle while docked, and the notebook panel worked after that. So that's promising; I need to test full suspend-resume cycles while not docked to make sure. xrandr --output eDP1 --scale .9x.9 now scales the panel. I've had the same problem since I updated my Huawei E220 to firmware revision 11.117.10.02.00 and 11.313.02.00.01 as detailed in duplicate bug #932824 https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/modemmanager/+bug/932824/. Before firmware update (possibly with firmware 11.110.xx?) everything was working fine. I can confirm that the ports branch works for me.
