[Bug 930148] Re: Dodge windows is down but what about making the launcher autohide only on maximised apps ?
I want to apologize for the name calling. No matter what I think about MS, I shouldn't have called him ignorant and arrogant. It just infuriated me that he came here to joke and tease. Since he stated this is settled, I suggest we stop arguing about the decision and follow the open source path (the design team's logic has been proven flawed already and we should not expect an illogical decision to be reconsidered by logical argumentation): bring it back ourselves and ignore the official position. I wouldn't be surprised if the feature was brought back officially in future releases. Since logic is out of the equation, decisions in Ubuntu are easily taken and easily reverted. (That's exactly why I have a hard time deploying Ubuntu in professional environments, btw. Unpredictability is probably the number one feature of Ubuntu these days.) @f_padia: Apple and Microsoft dictate. I don't know if they listen or not, but they definitely dictate without any public discussion between design leaders and users. I've never seen Jobs, Gates or Balmer chatting with their users. I was hoping Ubuntu would be different from that. Maybe I'm just wrong. @Ego: great initiative. Thank you, thank you, thank you. I believe most of us just want a clean maximized window environment and will live happily with the slight inconsistencies your approach might bring (where non-maximized windows are allowed to go, etc.). You have proven it can be done easily (so much for hard to maintain code). More experienced developers might follow and implement this at a lower level, then provide a PPA. My fingers are crossed. [Bug 944340] Re: Cannot change First day of the week in calendar in 12.04
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 878767 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/878767 On 2012-03-07 09:12, Andrei wrote: I've tried your option right now. It does what you say, but not exactly how it should. It also modifies the language in which the days are shown in the calendar, even though English still remains everywhere else throughout the system. That's a bug in the calendar app IMO. It's fully possible to make use of the locale in a more sensible way. Look at Android. They finally got to their senses and added a nice little option in the Calendar Settings for Week starts on: with the options: Locale default (!!), Saturday, Sunday, Monday. Personally I like that approach. It relies on the LC_TIME locale by default, which I think is important for those of us who don't want to redo the same kind of setting in multiple places. At the same time you can set it explicitly if you like. There is another bug on this topic, so I mark this report as duplicate. ** This bug has been marked a duplicate of bug 878767 No GUI option to change week-starting day -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/944340 Title: Cannot change First day of the week in calendar in 12.04 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-control-center/+bug/944340/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 930148] Re: Dodge windows is down but what about making the launcher autohide only on maximised apps ?
1.) I don't think launcher should Dodge to Windows that are not maximized. It should act exactly the same as never hide mode does and only be hidden when one or more window(s) are maximized. There is nothing hard to understand here for the user it does exactly what it is supposed to to if it does this reliably? Totally agreed. This is just what intellihide means. 2.) Desktop icons should not jump to the edge. They should stay exactly in the same position from never hide mode. Again, I completely agree. 3.) This one is a bit tricky. What should happen to the windows on the desktop. Should they be moved around on triggering hide/show and should they be positioned inside launcher area when launcher is hidden and aero snap is used? I think implementing sophistication in a script is a bit too ambitious. Sure, ideally the launcher should intellihide when you tile your windows to cover the whole screen, and maybe some other cases, but this introduces a complexity that is beyond the basic need: just hide the launcher when at least one window is maximized, so you can concentrate on the work at hand a make use of the most screen real estate, especially on netbooks. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/930148 Title: Dodge windows is down but what about making the launcher autohide only on maximised apps ? [Bug 848154] Re: ARM version not supporting V6 RaspPi
if raspberry (or anyone else) would reliably commit to invest into the above resources (buildds, a few fulltime people etc) to cover the costs for such a port (and for its ongoing maintenance) i dont think this would be refused though. canonical whatsoever will very likely go on to cover only v7 and beyond This position is not the position to take. Builds should be about supporting the widest used products on the market. There has to be a better way to build the ARM version that can support RPi, OMAP, and the other ARM boards like these on the market. This NO NO NO NO, ARM V7 only attitude is not productive. There have not been 100K Beagleboards, Pandaboards or any other OMAP boards sold in total since their development. The 100K+ in a DAY for the RPi. Thats by conservative estimates. Its probably closer to 200-250K. Its not a matter of whether YOU would use it for a desktop... There are PLENTY who would IF it was available and this could benefit Canoncial AND Linux AND Raspberry PI. I wouldn't use it for a desktop for me, but it does fit in to a project very nicely. Its about ease of use and showing how polished not only the RPi is, but Linux and specifically the *buntu(s). How much easier is it to get software on *bunutu(s) versus Debian? For some its as simple as opening synaptic and picking, or maybe adding a PPA and then adding the software. On Debian your going to run users straight in to the compile wall. Not what you want to do for most users. Its really truly sad to see that this is going to slip through canoncials hand. Why the build change after Karmic? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? If the build process had remained the same this would not be an issue, download the image and go...So what was the reason for changing after the Karmic release to this V7+ uber alles policy? ? As for a V7 RPi, doubtful. They have secured special availability of the SoC they chose, and would have to redesign the board for any change in the SoC and at this point thats not likely to happen. Unless there is a pin for pin replacement for the current SoC with V7 support. [Bug 948954] [NEW] Black Screen With Xorg fglrx

[Bug 763680] Re: Dash appears under full screen apps
White Screens update Actually, my white screens problem is not completely gone; There is no white screen problem for at least several hours after logging in. At some point, an application running in a full-screen window will go white-screen, but the header of its window is still visible. Hovering the cursor in certain sections of the white screen will bring up comment windows. Objects are still in the white screens, and they are functional. I just can't see them. I can grab the header and drag it downward to make it contract into a smaller window. Almost always, making a smaller window causes the content to become visible again. Enlarging the application to full screen causes the white screen to return. Screensaver Does Not Work Idling the terminal results in a white screen with no borders or features. With the default installation of 11.04, It was necessary to power off and power on to restore the system. After I unchecked 'Lock screen when screensaver is active,' the white screen goes away with a mouse jiggle or any keyboard activity. This seems to indicate that the screensaver does not work on my installation. System Notes: Ubuntu 11.04 stand alone system Kernel Linux 2.6.38-13 Gnome 2.32.1 Dual Proc Celeron E1200 at 1.6 GHz nVidia 270.41.06 Graphics Processor: GeForce 7050/nForce 610i Display; HP L1710 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/763680 Title: Dash appears under full screen apps To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity/+bug/763680/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

On Wed, 7 Mar 2012, Ben Howard wrote: Scott, I can confirm that -o=Acquire::http::Pipeline-Depth=0 appears to fix the problem. We'll need to look at putting that configuration option into the cloud-images. Well thats not really a complete fix though. * existing images do not have that setting in them, and they will have to 'apt-get update apt-get upgrade' to *get* that setting (whch can fail). * other images out there would not have this setting, and would just start to fail when we switch DNS records to S3 mirrors. * other people building images would need to know they need to do this. (this could be alleviated by it being a file laid down by a common package like cloud-init, but even then, we'd have to SRU the fix to old releases.) I'm really not sure what to do. We dont want EC2 laden with gotchas that only work if you use our special images. While I certainly want our images to work, I don't want to just make like for difficult for others who are not using them. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/948461 Title: apt-get hashsum/size mismatch due caused by swapped local file names To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apt/+bug/948461/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I use vdr with vdr-live plugin, and this is quite annoying, I need to press Cancel button everytime I open a TV channel, as video stops playing (you get a paused frame) until you Cancel or try to download the plugin with package manager unsuccessfully. I think a good solution would be to change the code in gstreamer plugin to ignore this (teletext?) data. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/533713 Title: Missing plugin: gstreamer|0.10|totem|Décodeur private/teletext |decoder-private/teletext (Décodeur private/teletext) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gstreamer0.10/+bug/533713/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
