[Bug 297787] [NEW] CUPS not listed in Services - not started- printer unrecognisedin 8.10

2008-11-13 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Public bug reported:

Recently upgraded to 8.10 and now my Brother MFC420Cn printer that
worked in 8.04 does not work. Tried to add printer. Admin says that CUPS
is not started. Go to Services and CUPS is not listed as a service that
can be started. Uninstalled CUPS and reinstalled. No change. Web updated
today listed an upgrade to CUPS but no change.

Ran 8.04 from CD and it found and installed printer with no problem. Went back
to 8.10 and no luck.
System About Ubuntu does not list the release info.

[Bug 285323] Re: Losing keyboard and mouse control when changing screen brightness with fn + arrow under intrepid

2008-11-12 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
confirming that 2.6.27.8 kernel fixes the problem on DELL Inspiron 9400;
(Identified as Del Inc.). xev no longer shows the KeyPress/KeyRelease
loop, and OSD for brightness is working.

However a minor issue I noticed was that brightness up/down steps were
not consistent. After going to 100% brightness and reducing using
Fn+down, I hit minimum brightness when OSD shows only 50%; OSD goes down
to 0% if I keep pressing Fn+down; Now when I increase via Fn+up, it
starts to increase properly and and brightness hits max when OSD shows
100% (which is correct).

yes I am at this moment using firefox 3 on winxp, no problems whatsoever. This
has happened lately since windows live hotmail changed its web page style. I do
not know why this problem is only on ubuntu 8.4 with the same firefox version
as that of winxp.

Re: [Bug 295897] [NEW] installation of openafs with kernel 2.6.27-7-generic fails

2008-11-11 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Thanks for the remark. Though I just can roughly see the parallels.

Before I posted this bug report I tried for about 10h to get openafs
running. These tries included the try to follow the instructions in
README.modules. This included recompiling the kernel, which also
failed:-) Unfortunately, I did not protokoll it. As the compilation took
a long time, I will not repeat it. Sorry! Probably, I've set a flag
wrongly due to insufficient Linux knowledge. I was very happy that I ve
found the above cited for the user *semantically *simple algorithm:-)

Cheers,
L--

[Bug 296762] [NEW] System hangs at Shutting down ASLA on Shutdown/Restart

2008-11-11 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Public bug reported:

This is my first bug report, so please forgive me if I don't do it to
standards. I've seen two other similar bug reports but both involved
sound problems as well. My sound is working fine.

When I Shutdown or Restart I see the closing splash screen. The progress
bar hangs just above half. I then get a blank screen with a blinking
cursor. After some time, I get the following:

* Stopping atieventsd[OK]
Stopping libchipcard daemon: chipcardd4.
* Saving the system clock
* Stopping firewall: ufw ... [OK]
* Shutting down ASLA ...

This is where it hangs up. If I power off the machine and reboot,
everything works fine until the next time I Shutdown/Restart.

System Info:

Ubuntu release 8.10 (intrepid)
Kernel Linux 2.6.27-7-generic
GNOME 2.24.1
Dell 530S with an Intel Pentium Dual-Core CPU E2160 @ 1.8 GHz
ATI Radeon HD 2400 PRO running ATI/AMD proprietary FGLRX graphics driver
2 gb RAM

This is a dual boot machine with XP Pro sp3.

I am a complete noob to Linux (48 hrs.), but am proficient with
Windows. If you need more information, please tell me what to do and how
to do it. I'll be happy to comply. Thank you in advance for your
efforts.

[Bug 296762] Re: System hangs at Shutting down ASLA on Shutdown/Restart

2008-11-11 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Thank you for your reply, Teej.

I went to the above link as you requested. I'm at a bit of a loss as to
what to do. I couldn't replicate the problem from a text console. The
/var/log/kern.log has nothing recent in it. I don't have another
computer I can remote debug from.

Can you be a little more specific as to what type of information you
need and how to capture it?

Thanks a bunch!

Re: envoie de photos

2008-11-08 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Public bug reported:

 Hi jcbaena,

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity
in it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue for you? Can you
try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? (ISOs are available from
 cdimage.ubuntu.com)

If it remains an issue, could you also attach a new /var/log/Xorg.0.log?
 Thanks in advance.

The output of lspci -vvnn would also be worth having.

When i try to open a divx (with totem, vlc, or another) only appearse
vertical green lines and the desktop is very slow. Whatever I open the same

¿Is it useful this information? ¿What can i do to give you more data?

[Bug 211631] Re: CIFS/SMBFS shares not unmounted before network is shut down

2008-11-06 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
In case anyone cares, my initial testing using this method has been very
successful so far, both shutdown/restart and suspend/resume are working
as I expect. Would be possible to have Canonical officially embrace and
include this script in the Ubuntu base packaging and close out this
issue once and for all? In the interest of having a Linux deliverable
that just works right out of the box it seems like this would be a
strategic move to me. There's a little bad press further up stream
here that I'd like to see turned around. In my opinion this is by far
the best release of Ubuntu yet (I've used Intrepid since the Beta and
have updated but never actually re-installed with the official version),
and now it is 100% complete for me. Thanks for turning me on to this
script, and thanks for an awesome Linux environment! --Gary

[Bug 294776] [NEW] laptop crashes on resume when external monitor is detached

2008-11-06 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

uname-a: Linux thinkpad-x60 2.6.27-7-generic #1 SMP Tue Nov 4 19:33:20
UTC 2008 i686 GNU/Linux

I have a Thinkpad X60 laptop with an Intel graphics card. When I

 - boot the computer with the external monitor attached,
 - then detach the external monitor,
 - suspend the laptop
 - and later resume it,

the laptop freezes. I just get a black screen with a blinking cursor in
the top right corner.

Ctrl+Alt+F1 and Ctrl+Alt+Backspace do not work. I have to press the
power button until the machine resets.

I could find no relevant messages in /var/log/messages:

I suspended at 06:51 and resumed at 07:45. I rebooted at 07:46.

Resume works fine when I do not boot the machine with an external
monitor attached. For example, this works:

 - boot the computer without the external monitor attached,
 - attach the external monitor
 - then detach the external monitor,
 - suspend the laptop
 - and later resume it

FWIW, I attach Xorg.log. Here is the output of lspci -vvnn

[Bug 285323] Re: Losing keyboard and mouse control when changing screen brightness with fn + arrow under intrepid

2008-11-05 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
The cause of this problem is explained as DELLs not sending the Key Up
events. In my case I see a tight loop of KeyPress/KeyRelease events (in
xev), as I have explained in bug#288579
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/288579), which was
closed as a duplicate of this. Is it really the same bug / root-cause?

Jack/Ardour impressions

2008-11-03 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Hi All,

Well I've kinda put getting my wireless card working again on the shelf for
now, it was becoming a time sink. Seems the .16 and higher revs of 8.0.4
can really get the 3945ABG twisted. At this point I have no kernel of the 5
on the boot list that will connect wireless, not even the original that did
out of the box.

In any case, I've been toying around with Ardour, JACK, and and Presonous
FP10.

In general, it seems to work better with the rt kernel. But it seems pretty
easy to get the whole lot to become confused, actually hung. To the point
that JACK and Ardour have to be killed in the process monitor.

Activating the UbuntuStudio tools seemed to help overall. I'll need to do
some more research on what this actually does.

I played around with the latency settings, while JACK and Ardour were
running...don't do that, understandably, they don't like it!

The problem is not likely with 8.04 as I am connected right now via an
Intel iwl3945 and a 2.6.24-21 kernel.

Do you have the kernel module loaded?

lsmod |grep iwl

If not what happens when you try to load it?

sudo modprobe iwl3945

Check the output from dmesg (only the last couple of lines are likely to
be relevant).

At this point I believe that iwl is blacklisted and ipw is loaded.

This is after installing a back port then doing the iwl remove/add ipw by
hand
and lots of etc.

I'm 30 mile away from that machine at the moment, so I can't qoute the
results from a lsmod, modprobe, etc.

One clue that I've not had time to chase is: my gateway box is an openbsd
machine running packet filtering. On occasion, when I reboot the
machine in question or possibly when I unplug the wired and do a network
restart,
I see a message on the gateway machine that says the arp
info for the ip address of the wired interface had been over written. (I
have
wireless set to a different ip than the wired interface.)

Which tools are you referring to specifically?

I think it's called Ubuntu Studio Controls. When run, it has two
check boxes; one is memory lock and the desired percentage of memory, the
other
is raw1394.

[Bug 258584] Re: [82G33/G31] Changing screen resolution results in a black screen

2008-11-03 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
There seems to be some other problems with the settings of resolution.
Today, I changed the resolution to the maximum and one screen became
black. Then I had to configure settings with displayconfigure_gtk in
Shell. Then, my both screens became black. I restarted and both screens
start to work again.

I suggest that there would be a time period in which you can decide
about the settings. It is frustrating to restart the computer. Perhaps,
some key combination would be enough.

[Bug 258584] Re: [82G33/G31] Changing screen resolution results in a black screen

2008-11-02 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
I have Asus EEE docked with an Acer AL2216W. I have faced two types of
problems. Firstly, the screen has become black. One blackness is when I
change freguency of Acer from 60Hz to 65Hz. Other type of blackness did
not appear with Acer's message Input not supported. It occured once
with the resolution 1400*1050(4:3) and 60Hz. However, I was unable to
replicate it. Secondly, the Acer become almost black lacking the
navigation bar in configuring the settings. Many problems appear with
the resolution 1600*1200 (4:3). Sometimes, the screen is totally black
or partially black. The screen can even become splitted with this
resolution: there were two black lines on the sides of Acer.

You can replicate these errors in this way:
1.) Set your docked screen to 1600*1200 (4:3). (Fine)
2,) Change this screen to 1600*1024. (Black or brownish)
3.) Change to 1280*960 (Fine)
4.) Change back to 1600*1024 (4:3). (Brownish or partially black. Black lines
may occur. During partially blackness, navigation bar disappears.)

Intrestingly, I could not replicate the error every time when I switched
the resolution from lower to 1600*1024. Perhaps, the error occurs if the
screens are above one another or too far from one another. I changed
resolution in System Preferences Screen resolution. In all of these
cases, Asus EEE's screen has no problem. Its resolution was constant
1024*600 (16:9) during debugging.

** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu)
   Status: Fix Released = Incomplete

[Bug 288579] Re: [Intrepid] On DELL Inspiron 9400 some Fn+keys don't work (instead creates a tight loop of KeyPress/KeyRelease events in xev)

2008-11-01 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
after todays updates (1-Nov-08) the screen brightness OSD is gone, but the
brightness does change. The desktop doesn't get screwed anymore like it used
to. However now the xev output shows the tight loop for screen brightness
up/down also.
Once in a tight loop, brining up the volume OSD stops the loop.

[Bug 283316] Re: opening /dev/scdN causes tray to be closed

2008-11-01 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
i can confirm this issue exists, brasero is currently (for me at least)
impossible due to the speed at which the tray opens and closes itself

i made a one-line fix to /etc/udev/rules.d/60-persistent-storage.rules
that seemed to solve the problem without even rebooting the machine, it
was mentioned in another thread...look for the following in said file:

# skip unpartitioned removable media devices from drivers which do not send
change events
ENV{DEVTYPE}==disk, KERNEL!=sd*|sr*, ATTR{removable}==1,
GOTO=persistent_storage_end

just beneath the second line, add the following (make sure to back up
your original):

ENV{DEVTYPE}==disk, KERNEL==sd*|sr*, ATTR{removable}==1,
GOTO=persistent_storage_end

(the subtle difference is in the KERNEL portion)

i'll attach my version of the file in case anyone would like to try it
themselves as a temporary workaround:

[Bug 283316] Re: opening /dev/scdN causes tray to be closed

2008-11-01 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
i should add an update to this as well, i was not trying to take credit
for a patch or anything like that

as i mentioned i had seen the fix in the thread and just decided to
mention it in this thread as i hadn't seen the solution reported

it's also important to note that other than the fact that it solves the
problem in my case, i don't know what other potential consequences it
might have so apply it at your own risk...but again in my own personal
case, the only difference i've noticed is that my dvd tray doesn't try
to bite my fingers off any more :

i hope that it works for people, and i'm sure that once an appropriate
solution is found this will be fixed upstream, it might be as simple as
that one line change but i am no expert on udev

[Bug 283316] Re: opening /dev/scdN causes tray to be closed

2008-11-01 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
i've done some testing on my own pc with different bits of storage
hardware to see if they were affected by the workaround, including a usb
stick, 250GB 2.0 hard drive and an external Pioneer DVD burner, as well
as the separate CD and DVD burners that are already internal to the
machine...i've yet to find any instances of things not being properly
mounted/unmounted or any related data loss if that is helpful to anyone
reading this thread.

i hope the issue is at least looked into soon as between that and the
e1000e bug that i've been bitten by (in the final release and mentioned

[Bug 127749] Re: Wrong UDP Packets Checksum

2008-10-31 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
weighing in on this issue again, i have observed the traffic coming from
my network card (e1000e chipset on an ICH8-based motherboard) and there
is all kinds of erratic behaviour...for example:

while visiting web-pages and sniffing traffic with wireshark, random
ethernet packets with random MAC addresses can be observed being
transmitted and received...the contents of these malformed ethernet
packets contain anything from bits of the html itself, to fragments of
images, etc.

i understood that the e1000e corruption bug was already fixed but this
seems not to be the case, somehow the packets themselves are being
malformed...just to make sure i replaced my card with an old realtek pci
and all networking issues immediately vanished, no malformed packets
recorded by wireshark or ettercap

[Bug 211631] Re: CIFS/SMBFS shares not unmounted before network is shut down

2008-10-30 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
I removed Network Manager with the Synaptic Package Manager (the
network-manager and network-manager-gnome packages) and added my
wireless startup information to /etc/rc.local like this:

ifconfig eth1 down
dhclient -r eth1
ifconfig eth1 up
iwconfig eth1 essid MY ESSID
iwconfig eth1 mode Managed
dhclient eth1

sleep 5

mount -a -t cifs

Everything now works perfectly as far as I have been able to tell. No
delay in shutting down and the Suspend function seems to be working
properly as well -- sorry I haven't tested Hibernate because I never
really use that anyway. I mention the Suspend function because in the
past with NM and cifs in the /etc/fstab file Suspend used to only work
the first time, then every time after that the network would not
reactivate and I had to reboot. Just in case anyone else is interested
in that little tidbit of information.

This seems to definitely be a Network Manager induced condition.

I hope this helps.

[Bug 287062] Re: Screen resolution capplet unnecesarily tries to set virtual resolution

2008-10-30 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
I'd like to confirm the problem, but I am not sure that the quick hack
is the right solution. In the past, it was possible to mirror a larger
screen over a smaller one (e.g. laptop 1400x1050, external monitor
1920x1200) The laptop just displayed the top left corner, which was fine
with me. If the external monitor is larger than 1400x1400, one still
needs the virtual line. So, the computation to make in case of mirroring
would seem to be to take the max of the dimensions, and check that
against the default bounds or the current virtual.

print problems with Cadsoft Eagle Intrepid

2008-10-30 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Hi guys

I upgraded to intrepid a few weeks ago, and no real major problems.
Last night I went to print out a printed circuit board and found
I can no longer print with Cadsoft Eagle.
The print dialog box on this app shows no printer, just greyed out.
The machine is a dual athlon 64 bit, plenty of RAM, and the printer is
an Epson R285.

I've tried deinstalling all the gutenprint drivers, and CUPS.
I can print normally from Gimp and other graphics apps, all at the same
resolution 2880 x 2880.
I've been installing updates as they occur so the machine is upto date
with intrepid.

Something has changed in the last week or so.

Has anyone seen anything like this or ideas on fixing it, Its fairly
urgent as its all tied up with
my work.

TIA

Richard

[Bug 211631] Re: CIFS/SMBFS shares not unmounted before network is shut down

2008-10-29 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
I just tried wiring up my lappy, which is up to date with the
distribution sources, and I have the same issue using Network Manager as
I had with the wireless. An interesting test would be to code the
activation of the wireless network connection into the local
startup/shutdown process and remove Network Manager to see what happens.
That wouldn't be a preferred solution, though, because the advantage to
wireless is the ability to switch hot spots on the fly with NM. If I
get time this weekend I can give it a try -- work has got me pretty out
straight during the week (probably why they call it work and not
play -- though they are both 4 letter words ;-)

[Bug 290289] [NEW] no logout button found intrepid

2008-10-28 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Public bug reported:

I upgraded my 8.04 Hardy to Intrepid Alpha 4. And have been upgrading/updating
ever since. When I first did this, my menu bar, with the Appliciations Places
Systems and the rest of the main bar worked erratically for me. The Places
menu for example doesn't bring up the file manager when I click Home Folder
for example, it brings up gedit instead. The logout button on the far right of
the menu bar was missing entirely. Someone suggested I create a new account and
see if things worked there. So I did create a new account, and the places menus
now works correctly, there is a logout button on the far right of the bar, but
there was lightbubl next to the sound icond on the bar. When I click that, I
get a dialog box saying There is now a combined status menu for instant
messaging status, switching user accounts, and exiting Ubuntu.
This menu will replace the current Quit button. If you click on the Update
button below your Quit button will be replaced with the new status menu. So I
click the update button, and I get the following message dialog, No logout
button found - The logout button can not be found or is not the standard
location. Please update the panel configuration manually.

So now Im not sure if I should have created this new account. Or what is
happening here.
By the wway, if I try to find out the release of Ubuntu I'm using via System -
About Ubuntu, I don't get any information at all about Ubuntu. The location
where I believe the information about ubuntu is supposed to be is blank.

lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 8.10
Release:8.10

Package version - None
Expected to happen: Thatwhen I created a new user, everything would work as
expected. The new user would have all of the features created automatically.
What happened instead: I have to do something, but don't know what. Over all
I'm happy with this release, but I would like to reset the menu bar on my old
Main Login, and not have to create a new account and move everything to the new
login.

[Bug 290068] [NEW] Incorrect vlc version 0.9.x

2008-10-27 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Public bug reported:

Release:8.10

freeplayer:
  Installé : 20070531+dfsg.1-1

The vlc version in ubuntu 8.10 is 0.9.x and does not work with freeplayer
(transcode issues as far as I see on various forum)
Video is almost broken or extremely slow

So its definitely the configuration used with UStudio.

Ubuntu Studio 8.10 without rt-patch...

2008-10-25 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
hey folks

i read, the ubuntu studio 8.10 will come without the rt-patch.
why?
i think thats a pity. i was really looking forward to intrepid. it will
have a lot of kool features.

is it a good idea to use 8.10 without the patch??

is it a good idea to install the patch by myself?? but the patch is not
working well, right (thats why its not in intrepid ;-) )

is it possible, that the patch is available later? i hope i dont have to
wait for 9.04.

[Bug 95444] Re: No Screen Backlight Control; Sony Vaio with nvidia 8 series graphics

2008-10-25 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
** Description changed:

Using Ubuntu on Sony Vaio laptop with Nvidia 8 vga card:

There is no way to control backlight brightness on Sony Vaios with 8-series
adapters, e.g.
  nVidia Corporation GeForce 8400M GS
nVidia Corporation GeForce 8600M GT (rev a1)

The registers have been found (kudos to mikes!). See these hacked
nvclock sources for fixed versions which can set backlight on Sony
  Vaios:

  http://stud.matrixcode.de/nvclock_hacked_seek.tgz
  http://launchpadlibrarian.net/18755253/nvclock_hacked.tgz

To install nvclock, download one of the tgz files above (these instructions
assume you use seek's version), then:
  ]$ tar -zxvf nvclock_hacked_seek.tgz
  ]$ cd nvclock0.8b3a
  ]$ ./autogen.sh
  ]$ ./configure
  ]$ make
  ]$ sudo make install

To test, make sure you are using nVidia's proprietary driver, then:
  ]$ sudo nvclock -S 100
  ]$ sudo nvclock -S 5
  ]$ sudo nvclock -S +10

So far mikes' registers have been found to work on:
  8400M GS on VGN SZ650N, SZ750N
- 8400M GT on VGN FZ38M, FZ11Z, NR31, AR41E, FZ11S, FZ290, FZ250AE
+ 8400M GT on VGN FZ38M, FZ11Z, NR31, AR41E, FZ11S, FZ290, FZ250AE, FZ21E
  8600M GS on VGN FZ31Z
  8600M GT on VGN AR51SU, AR71S

Add your model to the list by clicking on the Update description /
tags link, NOT by asking in a bug comment for someone else to do it.

Invoking sonybright.sh with hotkeys will do nothing until the script
calls new versions of either SmartDimmer or nvclock properly. I have
opened bug #286978 against smartdimmer to encourage support for nVidia 8
series on Sony Vaios. Please feel free to visit that bug and click on
the 'me too' link at the top.

Dual-adapter models (SZ6 among others) can get backlight control with
the Intel adapter using xbacklight, and can get hotkey functionality as
  per bug #173652.

Re: Ubuntu-Studio-users Digest, Vol 18, Issue 42

2008-10-24 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
The PC I'm talking about is a Dell XPS with nvidia and intel 3954 wireless.

It came from Dell with Ubuntu 8.0.4. All was fine until I started to add
the UbuntuStudio packages, primarily -rt kernel.

While there is lots of info on the web it is not necessarily current or
comprehensive. Thus one source says you need to install the backpatch to
the rt to get the wireless to work and another says 8.0.4 handles it.

At this point I have kernels in /boot that I certainly don't want, probably
don't need, and have little clue as to what they have munged into them.

At this point I'm thinking of wiping the disk and starting from scratch
with the dvd of UbuntuStudio.

Eh, I guess if you have hardware that has lots of tough to install
drivers. My Dell D510 has been cool after all updates so far.

[Bug 211631] Re: CIFS/SMBFS shares not unmounted before network is shut down

2008-10-24 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
I tested the commands, Thierry, and there was no difference. I didn't
really hold out a lot of hope, though, because I don't run the WPA
supplicant. Everything works perfectly when I umount the CIFS
filesystems before shutting down. I also found that Suspend and
Hibernate modes work better too (as an aside).

Strange, umountnfs.sh (I double checked it for cifs) runs before
networking so of course one would have to think everything would be
okay. Does the logging off of the Gnome session, ending the Network
Manager in the notification area, have something to do with it? I
wonder what would happen if the networking was all static
startup/shudown entries and network manager was never run (or even
uninstalled).

[Bug 288738] [NEW] [Intrepid] mouse clicks dont work on some parts of remote X-windows

2008-10-24 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Public bug reported:

I'm running purify on a Solaris 10 (x64) server and have it's output
window redirected to my Intrepid laptop. (via DISPLAY var)

The menus of the remote window doesn't respond to mouse clicks. The
other area of the window works properly. Also the OK button on dialog
boxes doesn't work for mouse click, but works for keyboard enter key.

Not sure if this worked on Hardy.

The remote window works properly on MSWindows with XManager
(www.netsarang.com).

screenshot attached.

[Bug 288579] [NEW] [Intrepid] On DELL Inspiron 9400 some Fn+keys don't work (instead creates a tight loop of KeyPress/KeyRelease events in xev)

2008-10-24 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Public bug reported:

Fn+Volume Up(PgUp)/Volume Down(PgDn) works.

Fn+Wifi(F2) - doesn't work. No OSD; LED doesn't light; no entries in syslog.
xev output shows a tight loop of KeyPress/KeyRelease events.
If Fn+Wifi is pressed after clicking on the desktop, top shows nautilus taking
about 10% cpu. clicking on some window stops it.

Fn+battery(F3) - doesn't work; No OSD.
same tight loop of xev output as above,

Fn+Brightness Up(Up Arrow)/Brightness Down (Down Arrow) - partially works but
buggy.
When keys are pressed even only once, OSD appears and the brightness
increases/decreases continuously (along with the indicator bar), until it's
max/min (like the keys are stuck). Afterwards the desktop simply doesn't work
properly; windows can't be moved; console doesn't get the focus when clicked;
keyboard doesn't work. Logging out and back in again brings things back to
normal.
no tight loop shown in xev (maybe because the OSD appears).
sudo /usr/bin/acpi_fakekey 224 (or 225) works properly.

possibly related bug reports:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/281421

xev output files attached.

All of these worked fine on Hardy.

[Bug 211631] Re: CIFS/SMBFS shares not unmounted before network is shut down

2008-10-22 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
I am experiencing this too with Intrepid. I use wireless connections
from a laptop. Network Manager is dropping the network before the CIFS
shares are unmounted causing multiple timeouts trying to unmount the
during the shutdown process.
