I don't remember if it went into 1.71 or not. But the GUI has integration with PolicyKit. You could try running either `pkexec lmt-config-gui` or `lmt-config-gui-pkexec`. [Bug 1726930] Re: System fails to start (boot) on battery due to read-only root file-system
That's because what I instructed in #15 makes laptop-mode-tools ineffective to USB hotplug events. Not something that a user would want. As I see from the reports, this is what I think is happening. 1) Users have some combination of usb devices, getting hotplugged upon discovery. 2) Step 1 results in early invocation of LMT. 3) Which further results in file systems getting ro mounted. This step is still erratic and I have no clue what the calling parent is, to this ro mount. For users who've confirmed that #15 in the workaround works. Can you please apply the workaround, successfully boot, then change back the changes to its original, and then hotplug a USB device ? This will trigger the same chain of events, just that they'll be triggered upon full boot. Which should give us some insight into what may actually be behaving erratic. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1726930 Title: System fails to start (boot) on battery due to read-only root file- system To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/laptop-mode-tools/+bug/1726930/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Okay. Thanks for the reports. It could very well be the flakiness in usb devices that are causing this problem. Anyways, the best fix for this is to contain usb execution to the runtime module only. [Bug 1726930] Re: System fails to start (boot) on battery due to read-only root file-system
This would still be a flaky device or a kernel bug. Because the mentioned laptop-mode-tools version (1.71) brought in forced execution mode, so that it could apply proper power saving values. That's pretty much it. That does not result in read only rootfs because if it logically did, it'd be seen on every machine. You reported that you suffered the hang state because the umount occurred after the multipathd and iscsid processes were killed by the init scripts (which I also assumed given the new init systems, upstart and systemd). But looking at your config, you should not typically see the hang scenario. I was suspecting that you might be using the multipath queue_if_no_path feature, but that is not the case here. The iscsi replacement timeouts are also the defaults, i.e. 120 seconds, which would mean that after 120 seconds of retry, iscsi will error out and the errors will propagate to the upper layers. Ideally, with the configuration settings that you have, you should see the errors show up after 120 seconds, and NOT hang. I have no more ideas on what might be going wrong in your setup. Perhaps the Ubuntu multipath maintainer might have some insight to this. -- Ritesh Raj Sarraf RESEARCHUT - http://www.researchut.com Necessity is the mother of invention. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1135453 Title: open-iscsi +mpio with multipathd init script order errors To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/multipath-tools/+bug/1135453/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

My previous workaround was 'turning off' the camera using cheese, but now even this is not working. I have a Thinkpad SL400 with a fresh install of ubuntu 12.04. This somehow seems to be related to the power manager. If i plug the laptop to the charger, the camera light turns on. That's because laptop-mode-tools, by default, enables power saving measures for all devices that broadcast it. In your case, the webcam driver broadcasts that it can do power saving, where as in reality, it is not. You might want to also report it as a kernel driver bug. As for the solution, removing laptop-mode-tools is one option, which you have already done. [Bug 931896] [NEW] please provide an indicator-others interface
Public bug reported: While Unity is elegant, it is at times coming in ways of what I want to do as a user. I have been a KDE user and very recently (12.04 aplha1) migrated to Unity. All my passwords are stored in kwallet. I tried to open my wallet application but nothing showed up. Probably because kwallet, on start-up, would simply run minimized in the systray. But Unity's default whitelist is very trimmed. So, please provide an indicator-others thing in Unity, where every application not in the whitelist falls. This way we can access and use our other apps also. And also it does not clutter the Unity indicator area. PS: You have done great work with appmenu. It makes both KDE and GTK apps look similar. Please do something similar for Unity indicators. PPS: This is a wishlist bug. I couldn't find a way in ubunut-bug to file a wishlist bug. It is off by default in the kernel. I haven't seen any reports of problems caused by turning it on, but there may be some. I wonder if Ubuntu should turn it on in /etc/sysctl.d? I have tried using it in the past because of my b0rken wireless router from the ISP which had a different, non-standard, MTU size. For me, the probing did not work at all and I had to manually set the MTU every time I was at my home essid. Will setting it on create trouble? Not sure. The failure mode of X constantly launching something that dies does make debugging it rather painful. It would be good to wrap unity-greeter with something that counts how many times it dies, and if it gets high enough, STOPS LAUNCHING IT and does a sleep 999h. That way, one can switch to another vt to deal with it, instead of needing to reboot, break, and chmod a-x /usr/bin/X or so to get it to stop hurting so much. Totally agree. The way the failure occured, it tooks my a couple reboots to narrow it down to libghtdm. Even saKing the process didn't help. It froze the system.
