[Bug 1834237] [NEW] Show partition label column rather than system column

2019-06-25 Thread Yousuf 'Jay' Philips
Public bug reported:

Steps:
1. Open installer
2. Click continue until you reach the 'Installation type' slide
3. Select 'Something else' radio button and click 'install now'
4. Partition column grid appears but the 'System' column isnt very useful

Replace 'System' column with the partition label like in Gparted, which
is the name of the partition on the desktop and file manager.

[Bug 1834228] [NEW] updates checkbox checked when internet not connected

2019-06-25 Thread Yousuf 'Jay' Philips
Public bug reported:

Step 1: Start installer
Step 2: Click continue on first 2 slides

Step 4: Click continue
Step 5: 'Download updates while installing Ubuntu' checkbox disabled but checked

The checkbox should be unchecked and disabled, because if its enabled,
it gives the impression that it will still happen when it wont.

2019-05-27 Thread Jay
@kaihengfeng, no downgrade also not helped
As a workaround we replace to Intel wireless 8260 , 7360 card. But this is not
acceptable, we have more than 10x users working on Dell XPS 9570 , 9560 models.
Please suggest

Does this kernel supports Killer 1435, 1435s and 1535 wireless cards ?

>> linux-image-generic-hwe-18.04 = 4.18.0.17.67

Or support for this wifi cards available in 5.x kernel, please specify.

Note:- As per killer networking, they haven't mentioned about 18.04
https://support.killernetworking.com/knowledge-base/installing-the-killer-1535-1525-1435-in-ubuntu-debian/

Please confirm which linux-firmware supports this driver?

2019-05-10 Thread Jay
This wifi drop and freeze issue happens only in home wifi networks. Not
on home networks.

I came to notice this
https://www.dell.com/support/article/it/it/itbsdt1/sln306440/xps-13-9360
-ubuntu-killer-wireless-n1535-manuale-aggiornamento-firmware?lang=it
here they manually adding the wifi firmware. I will try this later.
Before that latest 18.04.2 LTS wifi inbuild driver doesn't supports this
Dell XPS 9570 wifi driver? Please confirm.

I will share the required logs in next update

May I know what about Ubuntu 16.04 LTS, does this driver included or not
?

[Bug 1768230] Re: Long time booting : Failed to connect to lvmetad. Falling back to device scanning.

2019-03-23 Thread Jay
Then I tried to download ubuntu-18.04.2 LTS Desktop image, and did a
fresh installation. Over there I couldn't find the lvmetad problem
during startup.

Then I checked the kernel it installed with HWE - 4.18.0.15 and
initramfs-tools - 0.130ubuntu3.6 version.

Then tried to download 4.15.0.46 generic kernel and removed the HWE
kernel and then rebooted and see the issue persists.

Then tried to install initramfs-tools - 0.130ubuntu3.7 version with
4.15.0.46 generic kernel then the issue resolved.

But in my #92 , i tried with ubuntu-18.04.1 LTS desktop image and
installed only initramfs-tools - 0.130ubuntu3.7 over there the delay
issue still persist.

So my question, even in my case fresh installation of 18.04.2 works fine
even after installed initramfs-tools 3.7 vers. But in fresh installation
of 18.04.1 failed after installed initramfs-tools 3.7 vers.

[Bug 1768230] Re: Long time booting : Failed to connect to lvmetad. Falling back to device scanning.

2019-03-23 Thread Jay
Issue still persists in initramfs-tools - 0.130ubuntu3.7 version

$18.04.1 LTS (Bionic Beaver)"
$4.15.0-46-generic

$dpkg -l | grep initramfs-tools
ii initramfs-tools0.130ubuntu3.7

ii initramfs-tools-bin0.130ubuntu3.7

ii initramfs-tools-core 0.130ubuntu3.7

$cat /etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/resume
RESUME=UUID=115a16f5-bb9a-4ff2-a7b7-cf143deefcd4

RESUME=auto / none works fine as a workaround. Also removing this file
"/etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/resume " also fixed the issue.
I tested on virtual box. tested with 4.15.0.29 generic kernel also.

[Bug 1818816] Re: Ubuntu 16.04 LTS + "lspci: Cannot open /sys/bus No such file" on Dell 5820 Tower

2019-03-17 Thread Jay
Thanks @kai for the help.

@Taihsiang, we do installation based on Ubuntu 16.04 and 18.04 LTS only
for our colleagues with different platform. But testing with vanilla
GNOME will do and let you know. But I'm a fan of GNOME session :)

[Bug 1818816] Re: Ubuntu 16.04 LTS + "lspci: Cannot open /sys/bus No such file" on Dell 5820 Tower

2019-03-11 Thread Jay
@kai I tested by switching from UEFI to Legacy mode. There is no problem at
all. No need to switch to noacpi mode while installation. After booting
everything got worked.
lspci listing properly.

So here issue with UEFI mode with Ubuntu 16.04.4 version on Dell 5820
Tower. Is there any known bug discussion is ongoing for this issue? Do
you need any info from my side? Any command output or any log file? if
yes please let me know..

[Bug 1818816] Re: Ubuntu 16.04 LTS + "lspci: Cannot open /sys/bus No such file" on Dell 5820 Tower

2019-03-09 Thread Jay
Hi Kai,

If I use GDM, I can see display blinking aggressively. And for LightDM
the service itself not starting getting below error

lightdm:1284): CRITICAL **: x_server_local_get_authority_file_path: assertion
'server != NULL' failed
update-alternatives: error: no alternatives for x86_64-linux-gnu_gfxcore_conf
lightdm[1484]: message repeated 3 times: [ /etc/modprobe.d is not a file]

Even I reinstalled lightdm packages and rebooted, still no luck.

As a workaround for now, I use acpi=off in grub to make machine back to
graphical mode. But in this case also, if I reboot the machine hangs
somewhere else, then hard reset is required.

@Kai do you need any specific logs or any command output for your
investigation?

Thanks
Jay

I tried with both (lower) kernel , no luck :( It seems NVIDIA 384
proprietory deb package conflict with the running kernel.
