[Bug 32317] Re: mysql doesn't have to be restarted anymore

2007-07-06 Thread Paul Dufresne
Changing status from Incomplete to Confirmed (unanswered question is not
obvious, and you seems to understand yourself among you).
On gutsy, /etc/default/acpi-support have STOP_SERVICES="mysql ", but no
STOP_SERVICES="ifplugd ".
Bug #49688 is very similar to this one, and confirmed that there is no problem
anymore with MySQL and suspend/resume, I'll let you guys decide
if one needs to become duplicate of the other.

As for knowing if udev and ifplugd are compatible, I am afraid it is
over my head.

[Bug 119295] Re: OpenSSH should support VIA PadLock

2007-07-06 Thread John Steele Scott
Unfortunately this doesn't actually work.

I run the following test:

scp -c aes128-cbc 100meg.test localhost:/dev/null

And the throughput is the same with openssh 4.6 as it was with openssh
4.3. (6.0 MB/s on my EN12000E board).

[Bug 124532] write error in pwmconfig-script

2007-07-06 Thread marv
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: lm-sensors

When starting sript pwmconfig, in gives following error info during
execution:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ sudo pwmconfig
Password:
This program will search your sensors for pulse width modulation (pwm)
controls, and test each one to see if it controls a fan on
your motherboard. Note that many motherboards do not have pwm
circuitry installed, even if your sensor chip supports pwm.

We will attempt to briefly stop each fan using the pwm controls.
The program will attempt to restore each fan to full speed
after testing. However, it is ** very important ** that you
physically verify that the fans have been to full speed
after the program has completed.

Found the following PWM controls:
   9191-0290/pwm1
/usr/sbin/pwmconfig: line 102: echo: write error: Invalid argument
   9191-0290/pwm2
/usr/sbin/pwmconfig: line 102: echo: write error: Invalid argument
   9191-0290/pwm3
/usr/sbin/pwmconfig: line 102: echo: write error: Invalid argument

Found the following fan sensors:
   9191-0290/fan1_input current speed: 2250 RPM
   9191-0290/fan2_input current speed: 2280 RPM
   9191-0290/fan3_input current speed: 0 ... skipping!
   9191-0290/fan5_input current speed: 0 ... skipping!

Warning!!! This program will stop your fans, one at a time,
for approximately 5 seconds each!!!
This may cause your processor temperature to rise!!!
If you do not want to do this hit control-C now!!!
Hit return to continue:

Script will go on without any problems, but error info comes several
times.

[Bug 124377] Re: [gutsy] Trouble with package dependency (libcurl4-gnutls)

2007-07-06 Thread Mertiki
I confirm this problem

I manually installed the libcurl3-gnutls package so apt-get uninstalled
libcurl4-gnutls and all OpenOffice with it.

But I can't get OpenOffice back because it depends on libcurl4-gnutls.

libcurl4-gnutls depends on libcurl3-gnutls

libcurl3-gnutls is in conflict with libcurl4-gnutls

does libcurl4-gnutls really depends on libcurl3-gnutls ?

[Bug 124530] Disk Mounter applet becomes shy for all desktop sessions except the first after boot

2007-07-06 Thread Glyph Lefkowitz
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-applets

I have replicated this on 3 machines with different fstab and disk
configurations, all running Ubuntu Edgy 7.04.

The disk mounter applet shows my partitions as expected when I first log
in.

If I log out, then log back in, as any user, a 1-pixel-wide area on the
panel shows up where I expect to see the disk mount applet, and no
drives (not even those which are dynamically mounted and properly show
up on the desktop or in the "computer" window in Nautilus) show up
there. /usr/lib/gnome-applets/drivemount_applet2 is running as
expected.

I believe that these other bugs may have been previous reports of the
same issue, and they describe the visual impact, but I have filed a new
bug because they do not specifically describe the behavior with respect
to multiple sessions per boot:

[Bug 38095] Re: FAT32 partitions are automatically mounted as read-only

2007-07-06 Thread Paul Dufresne
First, since there was no package assigned, I suppose this is the installer

So I am making it on ubiquity (the installer).

Heh, you probably can't test on Gutsy because of bug #121143.
We need to know if the installer still make read-only fat32 /etc/fstab on 7.04

[Bug 124093] Re: dependency conflict in ubuntustudio scheduled update

2007-07-06 Thread Tom Fisher
Thanks for the quick reponses and helpful suggestions, this certainly reflects
the great positive OpenSource / Linux /
Ubuntu user attitude. My purpose in reporting this particular package problem
was to help make the Studio
release as bug free as possible. In the past certain dependency related install
bugs could cause severe hangups in the
dpkg / apt database. I do not know if that bug has been fixed, but then again
"thanfully" was not an issue here.
I do have another bug that will be reported arising from this Feisty to Studio
upgrade but not until I have completed
a processor upgrade.
As far as this bug it can be closed by the appropriete package maintainers.
Thanks
Tom

[Bug 91558] Re: network-manager multiple problems

2007-07-06 Thread Joe Harrington
This bug seems a bit of a gripe session that nobody has paid attention
to. However, I can confirm at least some of the behavior here with
release Feisty. Since the Ubuntu world doesn't seem up-in-arms about
it, I assume it only triggers on some hardware. So please everyone,
state your hardware. I'm on an IBM T40 with the Cisco aironet wireless
mini-PCI card. The card works perfectly, including WEP, if I manually
configure things with ifconfig, iwconfig, and route. Sadly, I don't
know how to configure DHCP connections this way. I also move around a
lot, so it's not a good solution. I also set my MAC address, so manual
seems my future (FEATURE REQUEST: please let us set our MAC address, for
privacy's sake! It's not hard...). Most of the time network-manager
works for DHCP unencrypted sessions.

That's the good, here's the bad:

1. network-manager does not ever work with wep. 64-bit, 128-bit, ascii,
hex, all fail.

2. Occasionally, the screen and mouse will freeze when using nm.
Usually this happens after trying to mix nm and manual config, or a lot
of suspends. A power-off is necessary (not sure if I could ssh into the
machine, but switching ttys or killing X or rebooting with different
3-key combos don't work).

3. Often, particularly after a suspend, the "network radio active" light goes
out, and then no wireless networking happens, period, even non-encrypted
connections that used to work. On Thinkpads in Windows, you can press Fn-F5 to
turn on and off the wlan and bluetooth radios. LED indicators come on and go
off in response. Linux tends to keep the wlan indicator on all the time, and
the keystroke doesn't toggle it. However, the bluetooth light and radio are
toggleable through the ACPI interface (/proc/acpi/ibm/bluetooth). The
corresponding wlan file doesn't exist. There is a file called
/proc/acpi/ibm/wan
that could be the equivalent, but it says "disabled". There should be a file
here that controls the radio (turns it on and off). None of the manual
commands ifconfig, iwconfig, lsmod, modprobe, rmmod, or route affect this light
and its functionality. If a halt or suspend command is given when the light is
out in this manner, the halt never happens because of an error:

glup kernel: [88622.38] unregister_netdevice: waiting for eth1 to
become free. Usage count = 23

Eth1 is the wireless radio. No manual commands free it. The computer
stays up while this message appears every few seconds until you tire of
it.

The original posting's problem 1 and the previous posting's problem 3
seem related to nm turning off the radio, or to a suspend or hibernate
not turning it back on properly. That could make it a Thinkpad, aironet
or combination bug, which few would have seen.

It's pretty debilitating if you have to use wep, so I hope it's fixed
soon.

To reproduce
1. Execute s2ram
2. Resume machine. Everything is okay...no problems...everything works fine.
3. Now insert a cd into the cd drive. CD will not mount and will not be
accessible. (Have tried automount on and off...same thing happens...any type
of cd..even blank cd)
4 . Now heres the kicker... not immediately, but consistently approximately 60
seconds after inserting the CD, system crashes...becomes unresponsive.. screen
still present but frozen. (It is a true system crash. It is not just that the
keyboard/mouse become unresponsive.)

Only happens after resume from RAM has been executed at least once.
Resume from disk not a problem.

Dual boot system. Does not happen under Windows 2000...(Sorry but I had to
mention it to eliminate the possibility it could be hardware problem.)

Re: [Bug 84158] Re: Corrupt screen when switching resolution

2007-07-06 Thread Matthew Moore
Sigh. I have been meaning to devote more time to this.

I'd be happy to have some help ... frankly if you want to reassign it to
yourself (or if I need to do it) that would be fine. I built and ran
with the version of the radeon module that shipped in Edgy and was able
to reproduce the problem. So either this issue should be reproducible
in Edgy or the issue is (perhaps) in the X server itself (which I
thought was unlikely). Sadly my Edgy CD is corrupt and my bug-hunting
process stalled out at the point where I needed to re-download and burn
an Edgy ISO.

Here's what I grasp of the technical details - the Gnome resolution
switcher applet queries X via the RandR extension to find out what modes
are available. The radeon module, when building a list of modes
available via RandR, first adds modes specified in xorg.conf, and then
proceeds to add VESA standard modes to the list. It seems to be these
VESA modes which cause the problem. My guess, given the visual
symptoms, is that something with regard to the memory aperture is
borked, but it's just a guess.

Good luck, let me know if you make some headway or if I can be of some
help.

Matt

[Bug 124294] Re: Gutsy tribe 2 amd64 hangs on Intel DG33BU motherboard without pci=nommconf boot option

2007-07-06 Thread Roland Dreier
Thanks for taking the time to triage this bug. Unfortunately, I'm not
sure the normal requirements make sense, since this is a hang early in
boot and therefore getting the requested information is not possible
unless I use the workaround, which causes the bug not to trigger. So
the dmesg/lspci stuff will be coming from a system where the bug didn't
actually happen.

Anyway, I'll have access to the system again on Tuesday and I'll attach
the requested stuff then.

[Bug 124519] Compiz is buggy at ressolutions higher that 1024*768 with the open source ati driver.

I have a laptop (ibm r51) that has a radeon 9000, which have 3D support
with the open source radeon driver. This laptop supports resolutions up
to 1400*1050.

Both compiz (desktop effects) and beryl works fine up to 1024*768, but

[Bug 124518] anacron prints spurious debug message

2007-07-06 Thread Martin Schwenke
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: anacron

I assume that when anacron is run from the command line and there are no
problems encountered then it should produce no output. However, if
there's a @monthly entry in the anacrontab, then anacron prints a
message like:

  Checking against 0 with 30

This looks a lot like a debug message and should probably be removed.

The offending line of code is introduced by
anacron_2.3-13ubuntu2.diff.gz into anacron-2.3/lock.c:consider_job() and
looks like:

   printf ("Checking against %d with %d\n", day_delta, period);

I'm running with this option:

-d Don't fork to the background. In this mode, Anacron will output
informational messages to standard error, as well as to syslog.
The output of jobs is mailed as usual.

(among others), which only mentions output to stderr, not stdout.

However, in this case the message is confusing because the user has no
real idea of its context, so it probably should not be made to go to
stderr but should probably be removed altogether.

[Bug 124517] nm-applet hangs without creating any gui window

2007-07-06 Thread John Wiersba
Public bug reported:

I'm running the latest feisty. When I run nm-applet from the command
line, it just hangs without any errors and without creating any gui
windows -- I have no clue what it's doing or what it's waiting for. I
am able to run Network Monitor 2.12.1 from the notification area icon,
which creates one window entitlede "Connection Properties: eth1".

I've never been able to run nm-applet, so I don't know what it's
supposed to do, but it appears to be totally inoperative. The Network
Monitor gui only allows WEP, not WPA. Wireless with WEP works fine with

[Bug 112518] Re: Switch User freezes at blank screen

2007-07-06 Thread Mike E.
I just tried switching to the nv driver. Same problem. I get a blank,
white screen with a large underscore cursor in the upper left hand
corner. I'm using Kubuntu Fiesty to clarify and I did a little more
testing. I noticed that when when I'm in the first session I'm using
(:0, vt7), but when I start a "new" session with the switch user feature
it makes the new session (:0, vt9) and skips over 8. When I logout from
the session on vt9, I get the blank screen. If I press Alt+F8, the
screen doesn't change at all. If I press Alt+F9, I get a black screen
instead of white but with the same underscore cursor flashing in the
upper left corner. If I press Alt+F7, I'm returned to my first session
on vt7 like I stated in the earlier post. To take this a bit further,
if I switch users twice (start 3 sessions), I will have sessions running
on vt7, vt9, and vt10. When I logout of vt10, I will be correctly taken
back to vt9, but then a logout from vt9 then takes me to the blank white
screen (that I think is vt8 which has nothing on it) and then I have to
press Alt+F7 to get back to the first (vt7) session. I do also have to
add that I don't think that it is a good idea to have the switch virtual
terminal shortcuts to just Alt+Fx when from within a KDE session,
Ctrl+Alt+Fx is required to switch terminals (which I can add, if I press
Ctrl+Alt+F8 right now I will get the blank white screen, but I will have
to use just Alt+F7 to get back here).

[Bug 64882] Re: Crash when trying to play a movie

2007-07-06 Thread Bruno Santos
I tried to make a debdiff but failed miserably. For some reason
callbackhandler from source differs from the one packaged, so this patch
is for the one packaged.

These 3 lame patches switch gst for xine for playing videos, add seeking
to gstreamer and permit to seek while paused by removing a check for
playing state on the scale handler. If there is something wrong please
let me know, I know few Python and gst, so this is just me trying to
learn something...

Well I was looking across some source for e17,

what if we took the code for animated backgrounds and put it in a gtk app for
ubuntu ? it would really be cool. I am only talking about the specific code
and special file format used for animated backgrounds.

[Bug 124513] compiz does not install cube.h and scale.h

2007-07-06 Thread reacocard
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: compiz

In compiz_0.5.1+git20070703-0ubuntu2, the cube.h and scale.h header
files are not installed into the compiz-dev package. This causes
building of compiz-fusion-plugins-main and -extra to fail, in the
scaleaddons and cubereflection plugins respectively. I discovered this
while trying to backport them to feisty using pbuilder, but I have
checked the gutsy compiz-dev package and it also does not have the
cube.h or scale.h files, and it also appears that scaleaddons and
cubereflection are not built in their respective packages, even though
their .xml description file is.

[Bug 124499] [feisty] ifdown not invoked when removing pcmcia wireless card

2007-07-06 Thread wildthewiz
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ifupdown

DESCRIPTION:
The script /etc/udev/rules.d/85-ifupdown.rules does not allow udev to invoke
ifdown when a network PCMCIA card is removed. On subsequent reinsertion of the
card, ifup refuses to run because it thinks that the status is still 'UP'.

CAUSE:
the check DRIVERS=="?*" allows the 'add' part to be executed, but causes the
'remove' part to be skipped

STEPS TO REPRODUCE:
1) insert the pcmcia card (first time it initializes properly)
2) remove (will not invoke ifdown and will leave a dhclient around)
3) insert again (will not invoke the pre-up or anything else)

ENVIRONMENT:
Ubuntu 7.04
ifupdown 0.6.8ubuntu6

Re: [Bug 106824] Re: desktop effects breaks rhythmbox

2007-07-06 Thread smyers
Hi Travis.

It seems to be related to some conflict with Firefox. If I launch Firefox
before rhythmbox (or other such audio program) then it does "the
re-buffering thing", but if I launch rhythmbox *before* launching Firefox,
then all is well. I believe I have updated the comments to similar effect.

Scott.

The same happens when X is restarted by using Ctrl+Alt+Backspace, then
Music-Applet can't work anymore. It happens with version 0.9.2. I heard
it was rewritten for 2.2, which is in Gutsy, so it might not matter
anymore.
