[Bug 330982] Re: old_passwords.cnf: No such file or directory
Okay, fix proposed by http://ohioloco.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=626443 worked. It was necessary to purge mysql-common (if you have a package which depends on mysql-common then just sudo dpkg --purge --force-depends mysql-common; sudo apt-get install -f . In my case, it was proftpd). How to simulate the bug (probably): install proftpd, then install mysql-server (it shouldn't prompt for a password), then purge mysql-server and try to install it again. -- old_passwords.cnf: No such file or directory https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/330982 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to mysql-dfsg-5.0 in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

Maybe I'm missing something, but why attempt to patch 1.8.8? Is there some reason for not updating to 1.8.9 which has been available since 2007, and also fixes this problem? I reproduced the problem with the original version of nut in the hardy release, 2.2.1-2.1ubuntu7, and confirmed that upgrading to the version in hardy-proposed, 2.2.1-2.1ubuntu7.2, corrected this issue. I also verified that things work properly when: - upgrading via 2.2.1-2.1ubuntu7 (release) - 2.2.1-2.1ubuntu7.1 (updates) - 2.2.1-2.1ubuntu7.2 (proposed) - installing 2.2.1-2.1ubuntu7.1 (updates) and upgrading to 2.2.1-2.1ubuntu7.2 (proposed) - freshly installing 2.2.1-2.1ubuntu7.2 (proposed) Note that I (still) don't have a ups, so all I was able to verify was that upsdrvctl started up enough to get to the point that it failed when trying to talk to the (non-existent) serial device. [Bug 277556] Re: should build kernel modules with dkms
With open-vm-tools the way it is now, if a kernel upgrade is performed (as happens often with security upgrades), and you forget to re-compile open-vm-sources, at next boot the system will have some major issues (like networking doesn't come up). With automated security installs (like I use), this means that whenever a reboot happens, there's a decent chance the system won't come up. I think it would be worth while to make DKMS work in this package to prevent these issues - I bet a lot of sysadmin would love you for it :-) -- should build kernel modules with dkms https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/277556 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is a direct subscriber. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 330910] [NEW] png generation fails when /var/log/bootchart does not exist
Public bug reported: Release: I observed the problem in Intrepid and Jaunty. Package (for Jaunty): bootchart (0.9-0ubuntu14) When there is no /var/log/bootchart directory, bootchart fails to create a png file inside this directory. A possible condition for a non-existing /var/log/bootchart directory is when /var/log is mounted as a tmpfs. This is a common configuration for netbooks with a SSD. At each reboot, /var/log is wiped and of course the bootchart subdirectory doesn't exist any more. Suggested fix: Add the following to /etc/init.d/stop-bootchart # Where we drop charts CHARTS=/var/log/bootchart +mkdir -p $CHARTS Alternative fix: # Where we drop charts CHARTS=/var/log/bootchart +if [ ! -d $CHARTS ]; then +mkdir -p $CHARTS +fi I leave it up to the package maintainer which of the two is the better solution. It also doesn't matter when the directory is created, perhaps it is even better to create it inside the start) case? As long as it exists before java is called to create the png, it is ok. I suppose that this problem also exists upstream. Do I have to report it myself upstream, or will this be done automatically? ** Affects: bootchart (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- png generation fails when /var/log/bootchart does not exist https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/330910 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Hi stat, I'm looking forward to see the results! Only suggestions is that perhaps this is not the right place to publish them, maybe a blog post is more appropriate. Have fun with the benchmarking :) 2009/2/18 stat maibpen...@gmail.com HI: I agree it isn't all that easy but since I have the machines to play around with I am going to take my main machine (the one I am experiencing the issues with and install Win 7 and then use the Richard's python script (cross platform) as described on the site you linked to. It is pretty funny since I had created an outline of what I was going to do from the very site you mentioned, what are the odds. I already have just about everything put together. The difference for me of course will be that I will be using my 8.1 install as is and will perform those tests first (excluding the install tests) and then redoing them using Win 7 and the same hardware. I have all the tools I need including using a couple of Aspire ones and a DNS-323 that I will use to measure throughput externally. I believe that by following what they did on Tuxradar, connecting some separate machine tests etc. I should be able to get a true test and relatively close to the true picture of things. Once it is done I will post somewhere (here?) my steps and what results I got. If my plan is flawed let me know, I am open to listen and am hoping to get this done this weekend (it's good to be a lonely geek :) Kind of looking forward to this, despite the work it entails and the fact that I will have to turn my xbmc box into a production machine temporarily :( On Tue, Feb 17, 2009 at 6:41 PM, stek79 stefano.d...@gmail.com wrote: Hi, it all depends on the benchmark. [Bug 330927] [NEW] Intrepid: OpenOffice.org does not generate ä letter correctly and conver ts existing ä letters to Per Mil (using MgOpen Cosmetica)
Public bug reported: Test generated an OpenOffice.org Impress document using NeoOffice on MacOSX and the MgOpen Cosmetica Font. Inserted the ä letter (Unicode U+00E4). This was displayed ok. Now testing with Ubuntu 8.10 64-Bit, OpenOffice.org 2.4.1 and ttf-mgopen 1.1-3, trying to insert new text into the existing document, again using the letter ä, Ubuntu inserts the Per mil symbol instead, but only in some slides. Also, in some slides, ä letters that have been displayed correctly in the past are displayed as Per mil now, too. Strangely enough, when I copy this symbol from that faultily displayed Impress document and paste it here, it becomes ä, just as it should be displayed in OpenOffice.org. In some of the test slides this error does not occur. I can see no system in when it occurs and when it does not. Note that there has been an issue with this character in connection with this font but I thought this was fixed (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ttf-mgopen/+bug/120209). ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Intrepid: OpenOffice.org does not generate ä letter correctly and converts existing ä letters to Per Mil (using MgOpen Cosmetica) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/330927 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 324469] Re: package xterm 235-1ubuntu1.1 failed to install/upgrade: package xterm is not ready for configuration
Thanks Sgop for the log. If the system is still in this state, could you please attach /var/lib/dpkg/status and then run sudo dpkg --configure -a and sudo apt-get install -f and attach the output. If it is not, could you please attach your /var/log/apt/term.log ? Maybe it contains more traces. It looks like xterm is in trigger-awaited state at this point and then it gets called with dpkg --configure. Knowning what trigger is pending would help me. [Bug 282655] Re: Changing volume with laptop key shortcuts and focus on second X screen causes short term crash
Hi there, i was going to report this bug also, then found it had already been reported. So are a few more details. - This only happens when i have metacity compositing enabled. - I am also running 2 xscreens and getting the same issue. - The attached screen shot shows before and just after i press the volume up key when i have the second screen active (top half of screen shot is before, bottom half is after). - This does not happen when i have the first screen active. - No volume level popup appears when i am on the second screen. (it appears as expected on the first screen). - This effect is completely reproducible - i can turn compositing on and off in gconf-editor and see the issue start and stop. - I am using hardy with restricted nvidia drivers. i am happy to answers any further questions you may have and test fixes. ** Attachment added: before and after pressing the volume up key http://launchpadlibrarian.net/22779653/redraw-error.png -- Changing volume with laptop key shortcuts and focus on second X screen causes short term crash https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/282655 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
