[Bug 382316] [NEW] failed rocksndiamonds during synaptic install

2009-05-31 Thread zman58
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rocksndiamonds

I am running Ubuntu 9.04 desktop 32-bit i386. I have a HP G60 244-DX

[Bug 34813] Re: gedit fails to save files over smbfs/cifs

2009-05-31 Thread Alexander Menk
Some days ago I thought it is a good idea to use cifs/smbmount instead
of the gnome VFS to access our Debian based Samba shares (samba version
is 3.0.24-6etch4). I am using Ubuntu 9.04.

- Cannot save files with gedit
- When opening .odt with Open Office, the seem to be opened readonly.
- The same operations work fine, when accessing the share using gnome-vfs

I just tried it after I downloaded a BIOS update file... dos.exe type...

perhaps if you don't have any file types associated with the file it will do
that? Just guessing.
I also tried a .pls file from di.fm and it opened with xmms (my player of

[Bug 382315] Re: cron.daily doesn't execute scheduled scripts

2009-05-31 Thread marco.pallotta
Some days ago I have started my PC and syslog sayd:

May 14 08:40:56 ramses anacron[6696]: Anacron 2.3 started on 2009-05-14
May 14 08:40:56 ramses anacron[6696]: Will run job `cron.daily' in 5 min.
...
...
May 14 08:45:56 ramses anacron[6696]: Job `cron.daily' started
May 14 08:45:56 ramses anacron[7302]: Updated timestamp for job `cron.daily' to
2009-05-14

but then it seems that no scripts, in /etc/cron.daily, were executed (I also
made a script that do a simple touch of a file in a directory but nor this was
executed). Moreover my anacrontab has a period of 1 day and my PC was off for
about 3-4 days, so the jobs weren't executed for more than 1 day (that it seems
the period after the which anacron starts the job) and they should have been
run.
If I watched /var/spool/anacron/cron.daily file I could see the timestamp
updated to 20090514 so anacron assumed that the jobs were executed but this
wasn't.

[Bug 382311] [NEW] Please sync diffutils 2.8.1-13 (main) from Debian unstable (main).

Please sync diffutils 2.8.1-13 (main) from Debian unstable (main).

Explanation of the Ubuntu delta and why it can be dropped:

Debian has incorporated the patch from ubuntu to fix
- --ignore-file-name-case. So the only ubuntu change can be dropped.

Changelog since current karmic version 2.8.1-12ubuntu1:

diffutils (2.8.1-13) unstable; urgency=low
 .
   * Fixed --ignore-file-name-case. Patch from Ubuntu. Closes: #300258.
   * Modified debian/rules to support cross-build. Closes: #451159.
   * Updated config.guess and config.sub.

diffutils (2.8.7.0-0.2) experimental; urgency=low

  * Test release for experimental (for diffutils 2.8.7).

 -- Santiago Vila Sun, 9 Jan 2005 14:21:08 +0100

diffutils (2.8.1-8) unstable; urgency=low

  * Repackaged source without the GFDL-covered manual. Closes: #212523.
  * Source is renamed to "diffutils" to make the archive scripts happy.
  * Removed texinfo and texi2html from Build-Depends, no longer needed.
  * Dropped diff-doc, will be generated from another source.
  * Added appropriate --build and --host options to ./configure call in
debian/rules to support cross-compilation. Closes: #283642.

 -- Santiago Vila Sat, 8 Jan 2005 19:09:00 +0100

diff (2.8.1-7) unstable; urgency=low

  * Moved info manual to diff-doc to address Bug#212523 partially.
  * Added appropriate Replaces field to diff-doc.
  * Updated config.guess and config.sub.

diff (2.8.1-4) unstable; urgency=low

  * Modified doc/Makefile.in so that it *never* uses install-info.
This is a workaround for an automake bug triggered by the fact that
install-info --version now outputs to stdout (Closes: #213495).

 -- Santiago Vila Wed, 1 Oct 2003 12:35:02 +0200

diff (2.8.1-3) unstable; urgency=low

[Bug 382309] [NEW] openoffice base reports keep crashing

2009-05-31 Thread Bunjie
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: openoffice.org

Using jaunty and oo3.0,1 (Build 9379) every time I try to design a new
report it crashes, and when recovering it opens two versions of the
program, requesting that only the second be saved. It may have to do
with macros, which I tried unsuccessfully to figure out. I know I was
writing reports before yesterday, and those reports remain stable, but
new ones simply crash 100% of the time, either while using or upon
closing. Do I need to reinstall the whole openoffice.org suite or what?
Thanks for any help.

by third party addons. Could you please try with a new profile to see if that
is the issue? You do not need to delete your current profile to test.

[Bug 347902] Re: Sony Walkman NWZ-S618F in Ubuntu 9.04

2009-05-31 Thread Misoldgit
Your English is far far better than my Italian, Roberto ;-)

You are correct, I hadnt noticed but if Rhythmbox is already running then the
player will immediately connect to Rythymbox as WALKMAN and there is access to
music etc. No icon appears on the desktop. Interestingly if the player is
unplugged then Rythymbox shuts down.
I checked and gvfs-gphoto2-volume-monitor is running.

If I connect the player without Rhythmbox already running, then the
desktop icon appears first then Rythymbox autostarts but does not
connect to the player. Everything continues as two comments back.

I too am new to ubuntu but have used few previous releases. Aptoncd package
which resolved all my problems was found on sourcefoge at this link:
http://downloads.sourceforge.net/aptoncd/aptoncd_0.1-1_all.deb
its version is 1-1 not 1.98. The next thing which you are telling that when you
click a package, the installer which open is gdebi, and install button will be
available only if all dependencies and conflicts are satisfied. Finally apt-get
install will work only if the required package is in the selected repositories

[Bug 326149] Re: ondemand cpufreq governor reacts too slowly

2009-05-31 Thread captaintrav
I have noticed this as well, but mostly when watching video content that
stresses the CPU more at certain points, when there is a lot of
movement. Totem starts having to drop frames, by the time the CPU
frequency increases, the need for more performance has often passed. I
am running jaunty amd64 on an AMD X2 4850e (desktop system). I have
been switching to the "performance" governor when watching videos to
mitigate the issue, but will try the suggest changes here to
/etc/init.d/ondemand

[Bug 317564] Re: Upgrade to Subversion 1.6.x for Karmic

2009-05-31 Thread Anders Kaseorg
I asked the Debian maintainer in http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-
bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=531366 why 1.6.x hasn’t moved out of Debian
experimental yet, and got a detailed response. The three issues he
mentioned look relatively minor, and the second isn’t an issue for
Ubuntu (we already disable serf because it’s in universe), but we should
be aware of them and of the fact that 1.6.x in experimental might not
get updates as frequently as 1.5.x in unstable would.

I think we should still get 1.6.x into Karmic; there is plenty of time
to work out any remaining issues. But if we want to stay with 1.5.x for
now, we should at least merge 1.5.6 from testing/unstable (debdiff in
bug 382002).

[Bug 382293] [NEW] package bluez-utils 3.26-0ubuntu6 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 127 in Intrepid

2009-05-31 Thread gthieme
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: bluez

I'm trying to install bluez-utils_3.26-0ubuntu6_amd64.deb and related
3.x libraries in place of the 4.x libraries because they don't currently
support my Linksys Bluetooth adaptor. I got all the 3.x libraries
installed and working properly, and now my Bluetooth adaptor works
again!

My problem is that there is an error whenever trying to configure bluez-
utils_3.26. I can ignore this error and everything works fine. But it is
really annoying because I keep seeing the "package bluez-utils
3.26-0ubuntu6 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess post-installation
script returned error exit status 127" error every time I install a new
package. Can an updated 3.x package be released for Intrepid (ubuntu
9.0.4)? Or can I make some setting to this message is always
automatically ignored?

The long term fix is to get a version of bluez 4.x that works with my
adaptor, but that is not available yet.

Thanks,
Geoff

Thank you for your concern. The duplicate bug link is at the top of the

As for the bug that this is a duplicate of, it's marked as fix released.
Please post any issues and reopen the bug if you still see the same
issue in the latest version of nautilus-share, which is 0.7.2-6.

[Bug 382276] Re: VIRGIN TO LINUX can't login (no resume image?)

2009-05-31 Thread C de-Avillez
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we can't fix it because your description
didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read "How
to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

BTW -- a "No resume image" states you did a clean boot (as opposed to
resuming from a hibernate). Also, we -- at least -- need "the 'bugs' it
tells me to report".

[Bug 382288] [NEW] nvi line numbering shows non-existant lines with absurd numbers

2009-05-31 Thread Dave Wolfe
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nvi

Ubuntu 9.04 on dual processor AMD64. nvi 1.81.6-5 installed with system.
Problem didn't exist on 8.04lts. Don't know if it existed on 8.10.

nvi can display line numbers when ":set nu" is used. In the current
version, line numbering displays lines that don't really exist with out-
of-sequence numbers applied to them. The screenshot attachment is an
example with numbering turned on.

[Bug 151890] Re: Clicking sound with USB microphone

2009-05-31 Thread Nausser
I am running jaunty 32 bit as well and have a logitech quickcam fusion
that works fully under windows, however, only the mic works in jaunty.
The clicking/ticking sound is steady ever half second on my machine.
Audio is very clearly recorded and transmitted with skype, but the
overlaying sound is quite disturbing though.

file with non-ASCII character in it. Attempts to show the problem line report

[Bug 382284] [NEW] rhythmbox reports dataflow error at the end of each piece of music

2009-05-31 Thread Hans Schaap
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

When playing internet radio at rhythmbox on my laptop (Neo), a dataflow
error is reported at the end of each piece of music, at the change to
the next piece of music. This error did not happen in the previous
releases of Ubuntu, but only at the new 9.04 release.

[Bug 382282] [NEW] nvi file status percentage is garbage

2009-05-31 Thread Dave Wolfe
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nvi

Control-G displays a file status message at the bottom of the terminal
window, for example:

zz: unmodified: line 52 of 14253 [140733193388032%]

Note that the percentage location in the file is absurd.

I'm using a stock Ubuntu desktop 9.04 on a dual-processor AMD64. Nvi is
version 1.81.6-5 installed with that version. This behavior first
appeared when I upgraded from 8.04lts (to 8.10 then) to 9.04. I didn't
use the 8.10 system long enough to notice if this problem existed in it.
