[Bug 537169] Re: X hangs on startup
Unfortunately, it is still occurring, just not 100% of the time anymore. In general, it requires anywhere between 1 and 10 tries to start up the X server successfully. Somewhat oddly, it seems to always start up successfully immediately after installing an xserver package update, as well as after booting into OSX. (I'm on a Macbook...) After that, it is back to being random. Also, while the behaviour is the same as before, I haven't been able to locate a similar segmentation fault as the one I originally posted in any more logs. Also interestingly, every time it freezes, the caps lock key still responds, however, if I try and switch VT (Ctrl-alt-f1) then it really locks up and nothing responds. So, if the Xorg.0.log.old file works as I assume (the .old file is the previous boot...) then I have attached here a successful boot (the Xorg.0.log file) and an unsuccessful boot (the Xorg.0.log.old file). The most obvious difference is these two lines at the end of the unsuccessful boot: (WW) Apple Computer Apple Internal Keyboard / Trackpad: unable to handle keycode 464 (II) AIGLX: Suspending AIGLX clients for VT switch However, I have a suspicion that could be the full on lockup that occurs when I tried to switch to VT1 after it got stuck. [Bug 543422] Re: indicator-sound-service crashed with signal 7 in pa_shm_cleanup()
Hi, It seems like this is related to a scenario whereby pulseaudio is restarted. Without more trace I can't tell exactly where this is going out. I have tested on my end with the exact same code restarting pulseaudio loads of times and all seems fine. The last comments alludes to something to do with Jack. Is this correct ? Has JackD something to do with this ? Any more info would be very helpful. [Bug 296867] Re: empathy needs to support OTR encryption
Just to clarify; 1. the fedora guys have marked it as wont-fix since which we read this comment in the fedora bug tracker: Jonathan Blandford 2009-11-16 08:23:37 EST [ Note that upstream has since changed their mind on that, and claims to be considering how to include OTR. [Bug 537169] Re: X hangs on startup
A little more interesting details I've figured out here... sorry for all the posts but I've been trying to figure out what's causing this... The odd time it does boot up properly with KMS on, (to be clear here, it boots up ok if I set nomodeset at grub...) it will crash in the exact same way if I switch to another VT and then try and go back to VT7. The last line written in the Xorg.0.log file is: (II) AIGLX: Suspending AIGLX clients for VT switch When I have disabled KMS, the process of switching VT's and back leaves these lines: (II) AIGLX: Suspending AIGLX clients for VT switch (II) Open ACPI successful (/var/run/acpid.socket) (II) AIGLX: Resuming AIGLX clients after VT switch So it would appear something is happening when trying to open ACPI. Now, in the files I attached before, the time my boot was successful, Xorg.0.log reports an error: (WW) Open ACPI failed (/var/run/acpid.socket) (No such file or directory) Perhaps the successful boots are only occurring when there is some sort of error here? [Bug 551237] Re: [kubuntu]the artwork of boot, login and desktop must be coherents
Yes, I know! I think I did not explained well (sorry for my english :( ). My idea is to use the similar (or same) color for the background wallpaper both for playmouth, kdm and kde (i.e.: like in Ubuntu.). A simple example is to change the kdm and kde wallpapers with colors similar to playmouth theme. I think this will make more consistence in the look between playmouth, kdm and kde. [Bug 551544] [NEW] puppet in lucid does not support upstart status
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: puppet Puppet does not currently have an upstart provider for the service resource. As such, it relies on upstart's sysV compatability, which is somewhat limited. The key problem here is that features such as ensure = running cannot rely on hasstatus = true for any service that has an upstart init script. Upstart's status command appears to consider the exit code to be an actual error status *for upstart itself*, and does not conform to the status-based exit codes specified by sysV init scripts. The result is that the only way to know if a service is running or stopped in puppet on lucid is to set hasstatus = false and then define a regular expression for grepping the process table--this is far from optimal. Compounding this, puppet's init.d provider considers it appropriate to run update-rc.d as though the sysV script were the preferred init script. What needs to happen very soon is either an upstart provider is written for puppet's service resource (presumably one that falls back to the sysv script if no upstart script is found), or the sysV compatibility scripts need to interpret the stop/waiting output of the upstart status command and translate that to the standard exit code. Until then, lucid's puppet is somewhat crippled. Hi Alvin, thanks for caring. On Tue, Mar 30, 2010 at 03:56:51AM -, Alvin Cura wrote: Please let me know how I can help. Checking out a snapshot from http://noone.org/hg/xen-tools/ with mercurial, building it on Ubuntu, testing it and report bugs to me for now. I'd especially happy if someone could test if the older bugs still apply. I hope to get it ready for Debian's NEW queue this week. Won't promise anything, though. Last week I looked through the xen-tools bug reports in launchpad and fixed at least the obvious ones which still apply upstream. I though wouldn't expect to get it in Lucid anymore since Beta 1 is already out. (... unless there is a strong urge in the release-team, but I doubt that.) Maybe a PPA would be an idea for Lucid. [Bug 537926] Re: plymouth crashes the filesystem
Same problem for me. I was running beta 1, with plymouth. This morning, gnome-screensaver had kicked in, but wouldn't give me password prompt to unlock. I'd turned on alt+ctl+del, and did that: gnome finished, but gdm didn't restart a new session. Power off, then on. File system check started, but failed. Now I only get / filesystem has errors [SIFM]. I've tried each of these, to no avail. On one later occasion, a file system check was started again, but failed, and dropped back to the same / filesystem has errors [SIFM]. [Bug 535582] Re: FFE/UIFE: replace some font packages with ubuntu-desktop-fonts on the LiveCD
Some questions: * Is this package co-installable with the old fonts? It does not have any Conflicts:/Replaces:, and indeed it might be desirable to have that, plus some of the original extra fonts installed? * From a very crude perspective, is this just a selection of existing fonts, or new fonts that we didn't previously ship? I. e. would that actually change anything visually, or just remove some redundancy?
