[Bug 537169] Re: X hangs on startup

2010-03-30 Thread Kevin
Unfortunately, it is still occurring, just not 100% of the time anymore.
In general, it requires anywhere between 1 and 10 tries to start up the
X server successfully. Somewhat oddly, it seems to always start up
successfully immediately after installing an xserver package update, as
well as after booting into OSX. (I'm on a Macbook...) After that, it is
back to being random.

Also, while the behaviour is the same as before, I haven't been able to
locate a similar segmentation fault as the one I originally posted in
any more logs. Also interestingly, every time it freezes, the caps lock
key still responds, however, if I try and switch VT (Ctrl-alt-f1) then
it really locks up and nothing responds.

FYI this is now after the 2.6.32.18 kernel updates and everything else
as of Mar 30th.

we should follow Debian here and drop the haskell stack on ia64:

[Bug 440068] Re: Messaging menu shows entries for users without messages

2010-03-30 Thread Conscious User
Okay, I changed my mind. The focus of this bug seems to have been turned
to the problem of setting connected as the timestamp for login
indicators, but not to the problem of them appearing despite the user
not wanting them to.

I propose changing the description of this bug to something like Should
properly identify login indicators with 'connected' as the timestamp
and stop considering Bug #495671 as a duplicate of this one, as David
suggested.

[Bug 551527] [NEW] Dualhead NVidia Mac Mini (3, 1) does not boot on clean Lucid beta 1 install

2010-03-30 Thread Nikolaj Sheller
Public bug reported:

Installing Ubuntu Lucid Lynx beta 1 from CD worked without any problems.

When the machine booted afterwards it showed Ubuntu + logo and five
activity dots. After a while these stopped blinking and nothing
further happened.

CTRL+SHIFT+F1..F12 and CTRL+SHIFT+DELETE did not work.

Pressing the power button caused the machine to shut down. (ACPI?)

Booting the machine with only one monitor attached worked without any
problems. (Nouveau KMS?)

I have now installed NVidia proprietary drivers and the machine is able
to boot with both monitors attached.

[Bug 551526] [NEW] Package is incompatible with repository version of the main Transmission app's RPC

2010-03-30 Thread allens
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: python-transmissionrpc

Description:Ubuntu lucid (development branch)
Release:10.04

python-transmissionrpc:
  Installed: 0.3-2
  Candidate: 0.3-2
  Version table:
 *** 0.3-2 0
500 http://mirror.internode.on.net/pub/ubuntu/ubuntu/ lucid/universe
Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

The squeeze version of python-transmissionrpc uses transmission RPC
version 1.7x

The current version of transmission in squeeze is 1.92 which uses the
newer trunk version - http://trac.transmissionbt.com/browser/trunk/doc
/rpc-spec.txt

Unfortunately there has been a breaking change in the spec. Many
attributes have been moved into the 'trackerStats' array - e.g.
seederCount.

The following script will demonstrate the problem:

***
#!/usr/bin/python

import transmissionrpc

tc = transmissionrpc.Client('localhost', port=9091, user='transmission',
password='transmission')

torrent = tc.info(1)[1]

print torrent.trackerStats[0]['seederCount']
***

Actual output:
Traceback (most recent call last):
File ./transmission-control, line 9, in module
print torrent.trackerStats[0]['seederCount']
  File /usr/lib/pymodules/python2.5/transmissionrpc/transmission.py, line 86,
in __getattr__
raise AttributeError('No attribute %s' % name)
AttributeError: No attribute trackerStats

Expected output:
an integer

I have tried my test script with version 4.0 of transmissionrpc it works
correctly.

Regards
AllenS

[Bug 537169] Re: X hangs on startup

2010-03-30 Thread Kevin
So, if the Xorg.0.log.old file works as I assume (the .old file is the
previous boot...) then I have attached here a successful boot (the
Xorg.0.log file) and an unsuccessful boot (the Xorg.0.log.old file).

The most obvious difference is these two lines at the end of the
unsuccessful boot:

(WW) Apple Computer Apple Internal Keyboard / Trackpad: unable to handle
keycode 464
(II) AIGLX: Suspending AIGLX clients for VT switch

However, I have a suspicion that could be the full on lockup that occurs
when I tried to switch to VT1 after it got stuck.

There are a couple more differences between the files, but I'll leave
that to the experts to look at...

[Bug 551208] Re: The dependencies are cleared automatically in synaptic

2010-03-30 Thread Vish
Thank you for bringing this bug to our attention. However, a paper cut
should be a small usability issue, in the default Ubuntu install, that
affects many people and is quick and easy to fix. So this bug can't be
addressed as part of this project.

-
For further information about papercuts criteria, please read

Don't worry though, this bug has been marked as Invalid only in the

integration into the indicator-applet. But I would also prefer an
optionally icon instead.

[Bug 531533] Re: Tomboy needs a monochrome Humanity Icon

2010-03-30 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package tomboy - 1.2.0-0ubuntu1

---
tomboy (1.2.0-0ubuntu1) lucid; urgency=low

  * New upstream version:
- Handle new application/x-note mimetype
- Add a text/path-list target when drag-and-dropping from Search window,
allowing basic note transfer via Empathy
- Allow icon themes to customize the panel/tray icon separately
  (lp: #531533)
- Fix icon embedding in Mac build
- Fix errors when using GTK+ = 2.19.7
  * debian/rules:
- use --disable-update-mimedb there

Fixed with the latest rebuild in lucid. If you're not using lucid, you
can only install it with the ghc6 version shipped, not a newer one from
a PPA. Otherwise you'd need to rebuild the haskell stack on your own.

[Bug 551535] [NEW] Launchpad integration for the Gwibber Ubuntu package should point translators to the downstream translation

Public bug reported:

As a follow-up to bug 551132, the Translate this application...
Launchpad integration menu in the Ubuntu source package should be
consistent with all other Ubuntu applications and direct to the
downstream translation template at

importantly in case there are divergences between the upstream and
downstream translation templates.

Hi,

It seems like this is related to a scenario whereby pulseaudio is
restarted. Without more trace I can't tell exactly where this is going
out. I have tested on my end with the exact same code restarting
pulseaudio loads of times and all seems fine. The last comments alludes
to something to do with Jack. Is this correct ? Has JackD something to
do with this ?

Any more info would be very helpful.

I've just been bitten by this one too: trying to run:

Even stracing it doesn't help.

If apparmour is going to block something, please could it be very NOISY
about it, and at the very least print something to stderr. Otherwise,
this is exceedingly hard to debug.

[Bug 296867] Re: empathy needs to support OTR encryption

2010-03-30 Thread Sam Liddicott
Just to clarify;

1. the fedora guys have marked it as wont-fix
since which we read this comment in the fedora bug tracker:

Jonathan Blandford 2009-11-16 08:23:37 EST

[ Note that upstream has since changed their mind on that, and claims to be
considering how to include OTR. In the short run though, its gotta be pidgin.
]

2. the ubuntu guys have marked it merely as triaged, not wont-fix

Also I note the main advantage of OTR is that it supports end-to-end encryption
even when the transport does not support encryption.

In the mean time I'm the cause of Ubuntu being dissed by my associates
because Pidgin doesn't support video or audio chat, and I'm certainly
not going to use Empathy in it's current state.

[Bug 537169] Re: X hangs on startup

2010-03-30 Thread Kevin
A little more interesting details I've figured out here... sorry for all
the posts but I've been trying to figure out what's causing this...

The odd time it does boot up properly with KMS on, (to be clear here, it
boots up ok if I set nomodeset at grub...) it will crash in the exact
same way if I switch to another VT and then try and go back to VT7. The
last line written in the Xorg.0.log file is:

(II) AIGLX: Suspending AIGLX clients for VT switch

When I have disabled KMS, the process of switching VT's and back leaves
these lines:

(II) AIGLX: Suspending AIGLX clients for VT switch
(II) Open ACPI successful (/var/run/acpid.socket)
(II) AIGLX: Resuming AIGLX clients after VT switch

So it would appear something is happening when trying to open ACPI.
Now, in the files I attached before, the time my boot was successful,
Xorg.0.log reports an error:

(WW) Open ACPI failed (/var/run/acpid.socket) (No such file or
directory)

Perhaps the successful boots are only occurring when there is some sort
of error here? My unsuccessful boot log has a success line here...

[Bug 551545] [NEW] PXE netboot not booting localboot from virtio-disk

2010-03-30 Thread Christian Roessner
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: qemu-kvm

lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu lucid (development branch)
Release:10.04

apt-cache policy qemu-kvm
qemu-kvm:
  Installiert: 0.12.3+noroms-0ubuntu3
  Kandidat: 0.12.3+noroms-0ubuntu3
  Versions-Tabelle:
 *** 0.12.3+noroms-0ubuntu3 0
500 http://intranet/ubuntu/ lucid/main Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

Description of the problem:

Starting a guest like this:

vdekvm \
  -m 256M \
  -cpu host \
  -smp 1 \
  -name karmic \
  -boot order=nc \
  -drive file=/dev/vg01/test,if=virtio,boot=on,cache=none \
  -net nic,vlan=0,macaddr=00:2f:8d:b6:cf:d0,model=virtio \
  -net vde,vlan=0,sock=/var/run/vde2/vde0.ctl \
  -watchdog i6300esb \
  -vnc :0 \
  -serial telnet:localhost:23,server,nowait \
  -monitor tcp:127.0.0.1:12000,server,nowait \
  -runas kvmguest

On telnet localhost you can see that the following boot-menu appears:

- Boot Menu -
=

local
rescue

It is loaded from this pxelinux.cfg/default file:

SERIAL 0 9600n8

DISPLAY boot.txt

TIMEOUT 120
DEFAULT local
PROMPT 1

LABEL local
localboot 0

LABEL rescue
kernel lucid
append initrd=lucid-initrd.gz rescue/enable=true -- quiet
console=ttyS0,9600n8

After the timeout, the guest tries to boot, but fails and reloads the boot
menu. This is an endless loop, until I break it or choose the rescue menu entry.

I would expect that it boots from first virtio-disk

[Bug 551237] Re: [kubuntu]the artwork of boot, login and desktop must be coherents

2010-03-30 Thread Giuseppe Pennisi
Yes, I know!
I think I did not explained well (sorry for my english :( ).
My idea is to use the similar (or same) color for the background wallpaper both
for playmouth, kdm and kde (i.e.: like in Ubuntu.).
A simple example is to change the kdm and kde wallpapers with colors similar to
playmouth theme.
I think this will make more consistence in the look between playmouth, kdm and
kde.

Thanks for all your great work!!! :)

[Bug 551544] [NEW] puppet in lucid does not support upstart status

2010-03-30 Thread Nick Moffitt
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: puppet

Puppet does not currently have an upstart provider for the service
resource. As such, it relies on upstart's sysV compatability, which is
somewhat limited.

The key problem here is that features such as ensure = running cannot
rely on hasstatus = true for any service that has an upstart init
script. Upstart's status command appears to consider the exit code to
be an actual error status *for upstart itself*, and does not conform to
the status-based exit codes specified by sysV init scripts.

The result is that the only way to know if a service is running or
stopped in puppet on lucid is to set hasstatus = false and then
define a regular expression for grepping the process table--this is far
from optimal.

Compounding this, puppet's init.d provider considers it appropriate to
run update-rc.d as though the sysV script were the preferred init
script.

What needs to happen very soon is either an upstart provider is written
for puppet's service resource (presumably one that falls back to the
sysv script if no upstart script is found), or the sysV compatibility
scripts need to interpret the stop/waiting output of the upstart
status command and translate that to the standard exit code. Until
then, lucid's puppet is somewhat crippled.

I hope to get it ready for Debian's NEW queue this week. Won't promise
anything, though.

Last week I looked through the xen-tools bug reports in launchpad and
fixed at least the obvious ones which still apply upstream.

I though wouldn't expect to get it in Lucid anymore since Beta 1 is
already out. (... unless there is a strong urge in the release-team,
but I doubt that.)

Maybe a PPA would be an idea for Lucid.

[Bug 537926] Re: plymouth crashes the filesystem

2010-03-30 Thread MikeCamel
Same problem for me. I was running beta 1, with plymouth.

This morning, gnome-screensaver had kicked in, but wouldn't give me
password prompt to unlock.

I'd turned on alt+ctl+del, and did that: gnome finished, but gdm didn't
restart a new session.

Power off, then on.

File system check started, but failed. Now I only get / filesystem has
errors [SIFM]. I've tried each of these, to no avail.

On one later occasion, a file system check was started again, but
failed, and dropped back to the same / filesystem has errors [SIFM].

Nasty bug...

[Bug 496363] Re: Installing nvidia kills xorg on non-nvidia systems

2010-03-30 Thread SabreWolfy
Workaround here:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-
intel/+bug/544813

solved the reversed / flipped screen issue. Loading of Karmic gdm in
Lucid is obviously unrelated.

Running Intel GMA 950 for reference.

[Bug 435055] Re: Bash completion for wget -o doesn't escape spaces.

2010-03-30 Thread Thierry Carrez
@Martin: the patch no longer applies to updated bash-completion_1.1-3,
any chance you could revise it ?

[Bug 535582] Re: FFE/UIFE: replace some font packages with ubuntu-desktop-fonts on the LiveCD

2010-03-30 Thread Martin Pitt
Some questions:

 * Is this package co-installable with the old fonts? It does not have
any Conflicts:/Replaces:, and indeed it might be desirable to have that,
plus some of the original extra fonts installed?

 * From a very crude perspective, is this just a selection of existing
fonts, or new fonts that we didn't previously ship? I. e. would that
actually change anything visually, or just remove some redundancy?

If the package is co-installable and just redundancy reduction, this
looks appropriate for me.

** Changed in: ubuntu
   Status: New = Incomplete

[Bug 484725] Re: dkms build triggers pam_mount (requiring password), thus fails

2010-03-30 Thread Jerome Lacoste
To me this problem is very problematic as it prevents apt-get from
finishing its upgrades.

So I backported the fix to the 09.10 dkms version. Maybe someone wants
to apply it ?
