[Bug 418428] Re: devicekit-power incorrectly reports battery fully charged when connecting AC

2010-07-05 Thread Tom Louwrier
Here's something that might help: I switched to another power supply; same
brand, smaller, but still.
The power management seems to be working as it should now (fine) but also the
errors have gone from my logs (bug 549741).

To me this definitively points to a bug somewhere in the bios, the battery's
firmware and/or the power supply (if any).
It may very well even be limited to a specific series of devices.

If that is the case, I don't think there will be a proper fix for it. Maybe
addition of a quirk to detect it and activate a workaround (what?).
Of course I'll be happy to do more testing and report the outcome here. Just
let me know.

cheers
Tom

[Bug 598936] Re: xulrunner-1.9.2 fails to install in Ubuntu 10.04 (post-installation scripts fail: "undefined symbol: sqlite3_initialize")

2010-07-05 Thread cmpilato
Doh! I had the same situation (though it was /usr/local/sqlite in my
case). I thought I was immune because I didn't use /usr/local directly
for my custom sqlite, but I failed to realize that I'd registered
/usr/local/sqlite/lib in /etc/ld.so.conf.d/. 10.04's sqlite is newer
than my custom build, so I removed my custom build, deleted the
configuration file from /etc/ld.so.conf.d/, re-ran /sbin/ldconfig, and
then tried again to 'apt-get install xulrunner-1.9.2'. Success.

Marking this bug as "invalid" as "user-is-a-knucklehead" seems not to be
an available option.

[Bug 601902] [NEW] 2:8.741-0ubuntu0sarvatt2~lucid from the http://ppa.launchpad.net/ubuntu-x-swat/x-updates/ubuntu/ ppa has rendering bugs

2010-07-05 Thread Jasper
Public bug reported:

I upgraded to the 8.741 version of the ATI drivers via the
ubuntu-x-swat/x-updates ppa thing to get eve-online to work. It now runs
fine, but now i get new problems with other applications!

Thunderbird 3.04 has rendering and refresh problems, part of the display
don't get updated and stay as grey rectangles, as i move the mouse over
the screen some of the grey rectangles are redrawn correctly. Minimisimg
and maximizing Thunderbird also fixes the problem sometimes.

Merkartor also has refresh problems, sometimes a rectangular area of the
screen dosn't refresh and stays white.

P.S. sorry if this isn't quite the right place to report this, i spent
ages trying to work out the best place to report this and gave up in the
end.

P.P.S. ubuntu-bug -p fglrx said that fglrx wasn't an ubuntu package...

[Bug 586325] Re: [i965q] Fujitsu Siemens Esprimo E: changing resolution results in non working X

2010-07-05 Thread Torsten Spindler
Hypothesis is, that using xrandr on the command line is more robust than
using gnome-display-properties:

Series of 10 tests,
this sequence repeated 5 times per test:
xrandr -s 1024x768 --rate 60
xrandr -s 1920x1200

Results:
working: x x x
broken : X X X
broke during 3rd attempt when going to 1024x768, flickering screen
broke during 2nd attempt when going to 1024x768, flickering screen
broke during 5th attempt when going to 1920x1200, display slept

Observation: after resolution change to 1920x1200 pixel errors where observed
on the lower right screen, looking like a gradient developing from lower right
to center of screen. This happened some, but not all times.

Series of 5 tests,
using gnome-display-properties

Results:
working:
broken: X
broke during 1st attempt when going to 1024x768, flickering screen
  same as 1st test
   same as 1st test
same as 1st test
 same as 1st test

Binary package hint: dpkg

Hy,

First, thank you for your work and sorry for my limited English.
I find many debian package on internet, They are make by users passionate
persons or by communities.
The problem it is because many make a package by using the command :
sudo dpkg-deb -b '/home/soft_version_all'

But when the package is made like this, and it is installed, the typical
user can modify its files in /

I think the default package files should be writable only by root
because many do not think to change the user or to chmod before use
dpkg.

ProblemType: Bug

[Bug 595502] [NEW] connect to server

2010-07-05 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug by Marc Deslauriers (mdeslaur):

Binary package hint: hotssh

Everytime hotssh is opened it just tries to reconnect to last server. If
you hit cancel the program closes. If you reconnect and then use the
file menu to conect to server you cannot get the connection manager
window to open. Essentially the program is stuck in a closed loop
connecting to only one server.

This is also a security issue because it will auto connect to remote
servers regardless of who opens the program.

ProblemType: Bug

Go to

and select 'Deutschland' on the left side (in 'Vorhersagen').
Or go directly to

which looks a bit different.

[Bug 380293] Re: Ienovo X200 power consumption - power top

2010-07-05 Thread random guy
I have had an X200 since they first came out (like 2 years ago i think)
and every linux distro i have tried have had thee issues. ubuntu, arch,
fedora, pclinuxos, ...

It uses about 10 watts completely idle (no mouse movement) and maybe 15
watts when in use (it jumps around a lot). in the last 2 hours i do have
peaks in the 35 watt region (omg)

There is definetly an issue with the linux kernel; nothing distribution
specific. i have used linux and only linux on it from day one; i would
have thought this issue would have been solved by now; it has not been.

sigh.

[Bug 595480] Re: Package with dpkg-deb -b.

2010-07-05 Thread Marc Deslauriers
Thanks for reporting this issue, but you should file bugs with the
actual packagers of those applications to get them to create proper
packages.

[Bug 597071] [NEW] when suspending during unlock attempt, screen is not locked on unsuspend

2010-07-05 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug by Marc Deslauriers (mdeslaur):

Binary package hint: gnome-screensaver

When computer is suspended during unlock attempt, after hitting enter
but before actually being unlocked, the system is not locked on wake up.

My system suspends when my battery level is critical. So when I woke my
computer it suspended again after a few seconds later, I had however had
time enough to enter my password and hit enter before it suspended. Next
time I woke my computer the screen was unlocked.

The expected behavior would be to not unlock the screen if a
suspend/hibernate was performed during the unlock procedure.

Apport seems erroneously to have detected that my window manager is
gnome while it is actually xfce4 (xubuntu setup), also my locked screen
says XScreenSaver 5.10, not gnome-screensaver. I am unsure if this is a
bug in apport or if things are just strangely labeled.

Binary package hint: update-manager

Since installing Ubuntu 10.04 yesterday, I have not been prompted to
install updates. Obviously, since it has been a couple of months since
10.04 was released, there must have been some security updates released,
which I should be prompted to install daily. This is not happening. A
thread with others who have this problem is here -

I ran sudo apt-get update manually, and am now being prompted to install

then, apt-get update is not being run automatically when it should be.

[Bug 600158] Re: After upgrading to firefox 3.6.6 flash plugin crashes

2010-07-05 Thread emmakezza
Reply to #20 - As an example, any flash content on www.boingboing.net
crashes in Firefox under Hardy.

http://www.boingboing.net/2010/07/05/four-lions-this-is-s.html

Other sites with flash produce the same message.

I have three flash plugins on Firefox - the old 9.0 r31, the current 9.0
r100 and GPLFlash 0.4.12. Of these, Firefox only seems to recognise 9.0
r31 because disabling this version and enabling the others using the
Add-on control panel in Firefox gives a message that the "plugin for
this content has been disabled" on any flash content. Enabling the r31
version gives the message that the Adobe Flash plugin has crashed. I
only added the r100 and GPLFlash plugins (via Synaptic) after the r31
version failed to work after the upgrade but Firefox doesn't appear to
be able to use them and keeps reverting to the r31 version.

I have a laptop with Ubuntu Netbook Remix on which there is no such
problem so this seems to be limited to Hardy.

in /usr/share/tomcat6/bin/catalina.sh to $CATALINA_BASE/conf/catalina.policy
(an invalid path). Unfortunately the second takes precedence, and so no policy
file is actually used.
+ The problem is that -Djava.security.policy is being set twice, firstly

To fix this, I suggest patching catalina.sh to change
'conf/catalina.policy' references to 'work/catalina.policy'. It would
also be good to remove the explicit setting of -Djava.security.manager
and -Djava.security.policy from the init.d script, since it is done
anyway in the init script. I've attached two patches for this.

+ Impact:
+ Regression for users of TOMCAT6_SECURITY=yes, that won't work after upgrading
to Lucid.
+
+ Development branch fix:
+ 6.0.26-4 has this fix, and a sync request to 6.0.26-5 was filed (bug 599265)
+
+ Minimal patch:
+ See attached at comment 9.
+
+ TEST CASE:
+ $ sudo apt-get install tomcat6
+ $ sudo sed -i "s/#TOMCAT6_SECURITY=no/TOMCAT6_SECURITY=yes/"
/etc/default/tomcat6
+ $ sudo service tomcat6 restart
+ Affected = FAIL
+ Fixed = PASS
+
+ Regression potential:
+ The patch only affects the options used when TOMCAT6_SECURITY=yes, and the
current duplicated options prevent it from working completely.

2010-07-05 Thread Marc Deslauriers
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

Re: [Bug 594886] Re: my session completely tears down when i click this link

2010-07-05 Thread lipstick
Weird, it did not happen again to me either.

Well, maybe it occured because I had a lot tabs opened at that previous
session, and I was using Firefox for a few days without closing it. So when
I clicked that image, my gnome session compeletly ruined.

Anyway, it does not look like a problem anymore.
