[Bug 787203] Re: ubuntu 11.04 will not wake up from suspend

2011-09-21 Thread farchumbre
hi
i have the same problem with thinkpad x300.
it was working a month ago. and if I try with ubuntu 11.04 from a usb key it
works fine.
therefore, it should be a problem with a recent update and it is not hardware
dependent.

[Bug 841872] Re: Using the task switcher, hard to cycle through different terminals

2011-09-21 Thread Richard Merren
I like the ALT + ` switching...I didn't know about it either. But I
have an issue that seems to fall under this bug. When I have several
windows open including multiple terminal windows, if I alt-tab to the
terminals the wrong one is active. Terminal A sits behind Terminal B,
but Terminal A has the active cursor and accepts keyboard input. I use
transparency in the terminals, otherwise I probably wouldn't have known
what was going on.

The ALT+` switching lets me pick the proper one--when I switch between
them with this key combo the active one comes back to the front. Also,
when I use ALT+TAB to pick a specific instance of the terminal (Hit
ALT+TAB, pause on the icon for the terminals and wait for the multiple
ones to show up or press the down arrow to get to selections, then
select the one I want) they end up in the correct z-order with the
active one on top.

To recreate: open a few windows (I have chromium, "home folder", and
Geany open) along with two terminal window instances. Go to the browser
and ALT+TAB to the terminal icon. The active terminal is not in the
front.

[Bug 855943] [NEW] Installing then uninstalling FGLRX makes Oneiric's Unity unbootable

2011-09-21 Thread Jonathan Meek
Public bug reported:

I was attempting to test this bug:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/781384 by installing FGLRX via jockey-
gtk. After I found that there were no fixes (still), I went back to
jockey and uninstalled FGLRX. However, upon rebooting, I found that
Unity would not load. Applications had their title bars, however and
were able to be moved.

I ran a terminal and ran "unity" and was received various "Compiz
couldn't load plugin X : could not locate libgl.so.1" etc. I checked on
a live USB of mine and this file doesn't exist in a standard install.
The only way I could find to fix it was to reinstall the FGLRX driver to
get things to work temporarily. (Which i did not want to do because of
aforementioned bug).

If you need any more information, I will be glad to pass it along.
Running up-to-date 64bit Oneiric.

These are all expected behavior and not related to this bug. I need a
plymouth debug log that corresponds to an actual crash in order to make
progress here.

[Bug 779639] Re: gnome screensaver activation is hindered by unobscure routine

2011-09-21 Thread Robert Lange
Truth be told, I never understood what Shih-Yuan Lee's patch did or how
it addressed this bug. My patch is much simpler, but it only addresses
a symptom of the bug (the unobscure routine deactivating the
screensaver) rather than the underlying bug (why is the
obscure/unobscure routine called at every invocation of the
screensaver?). Of course, a patch of a particularly annoying symptom is
still better than no patch for the underlying cause...

To apply the patch, you must use the Debian package building system to
rebuild the gnome-screensaver package. It's very easy to apply if you
are familiar with that system, but it's beyond the scope of this bug
tracker to provide directions.

[Bug 745836] Re: soffice.bin crashed with SIGSEGV in cppu::throwException()

2011-09-21 Thread Ian! D. Allen
From: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ecryptfs/+bug/509180

Linux linux 2.6.38-11-generic #47-Ubuntu SMP Fri Jul 15 19:27:09 UTC
2011 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Description: Ubuntu 11.04
Codename: natty

After months of kernel and application crashes and corrupt files, I
was ready to abandon Ubuntu 11.04 and go to some other distribution.
Before doing that, I wrote a script to repeatedly md5sum the files in
my ecryptfs directory and compare the results. I went single-user to
ensure that nothing else was running and, sure enough, the script showed
that md5sums changed randomly on files that I never touched.

I went looking today and found this launchpad entry indicating that you
have known for 18 months (since 9.10!) that ecryptfs is broken and is
not suitable for production use.

Why didn't you disable it in recent releases? My 11.04 install offered
to encrypt my home directory during installation, yet you've known for
18 months that to do so would corrupt my system and crash it.

I am frustrated that nobody took prompt action to disable the use of
ecryptfs and to notify those of us using it.

[Bug 855932] Re: Intermittent freezing

2011-09-21 Thread Paul Tagliamonte
I was able to verify that this was not user error at Software Freedom
Day in Boston.

Ethan - could you please try the pristine upstream kernel to check if
there's a delta in Ubuntu causing this? I seem to recall you mentioning
that it was present in Fedora - do you think it's an upstream issue?

[Bug 855932] [NEW] Intermittent freezing

2011-09-21 Thread Ethan Soergel
Public bug reported:

I was told I may have a possible kernel regression and that I should
file a bug report. I'm running a clean install of Ubuntu 11.04 on a
Thinkpad R400 purchased new in 2009. (Ubuntu 2.6.38-8.42-generic
2.6.38.2)

Symptoms:
The display freezes at random; it will often start being laggy, and then freeze
up all together.
when this occurs:
I can't switch to console mode
I can't move the mouse
Any on-screen animations freeze.
Audio continues to play, at least for a bit.

Toggling the wifi switch on my laptop sometimes un-freezes my computer, usually
only for a moment, sometimes all the way.
I managed to get into console mode just as my computer started freezing, before
it locked up all the way, and when I toggled the wifi switch I got the
following output (preceded by some numbers that I suppose represented time):
iwlagn :30:00.0: Error sending REPLY_RXON: enqueue hcmd failed: -5
iwlagn :30:00.0: Error clearing ASSOC_MSK on BSS (-5)
Those two lines repeated a number of times.

This problem doesn't occur if I have Ubuntu 10.04 installed. I had a
clean install of 10.04LTS for a while, with no problems, and I never
used 10.10, but when 11.04 came out, I wanted to try out Unity, so I did
a clean install. I had this freezing issue. I later partitioned the
drive and installed 10.04 on the other partition to check if it would
work, and it did. Someone suggested I try upgrading (rather than doing
a clean install) to 11.04, so I did that and had the freezing problem
again, now on both 11.04 partitions (ridiculous, I know). I made a live
USB of Fedora 15 with GNOME 3 and had the same issue (but I didn't
really play around with it much, so it's possible that was something
else).

I got this just after quitting a live install of an Lubuntu Oneiric Beta

Since Lubuntu has no screenshot tool installed by default I had used

I'm posting this mostly so I can follow up on it myself.

No major worries, but I wish we could roll back to a sane ubiquity
... circa Lucid ;^)

[Bug 657564] Re: Duplicated package with cairo-dock-plugins (coming from Debian)

2011-09-21 Thread Matthieu Baerts
Hello Nobuhiro Iwamatsu,

Thank you for your answer!

> This was a change for package checks of Debian (lintian).

Can you explain why it's a problem? I guess you're right and it's maybe
not a good idea to use this tild character right there but we want to
fix this bug for all users ;)

> We have not forced it on you about this.
> This is a correction to have only in Debian.

Yes, as I said, it's not a problem to change anything (BTW thank you to
check our code and test it carefully!) but don't hesitate to report
these changes, questions or bugs to us ;)

> Hmm? We have not provided cairo-dock-data package.
> We will change it like that if you want to divide it as cairo-dock-data
> package.

No it's not a big deal. It's just because Cairo-Dock packages have been
created first for Ubuntu (it was a choice of a former contributor, sorry
for that) and it seems the packages have been totally rewritten and we
don't know why.

> The up stream was cairo-dock-plugins. We only just use it.
> If you need , I will change.

It's maybe a good idea to fix this bug. But as I said, I understand this
choice but this package has been uploaded on Ubuntu before to be
uploaded on Debian and this package has been proposed on Debian with the
same name.. (http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=493736)

> Because there is a user doing various how to use in Debian, I do
> packaging so that many users are easy to use it.
> I explain this by a former email.

We understand and we respect your opinion but we strongly discourage
packagers from doing that...

> Sorry, where did you report this bug?
> At least I was not able to find it in Debian.

I know it was not the right place to do that but you said 'I see' (comment 11)
so I guessed it was ok for you =>
https://bugs.launchpad.net/cairo-dock-plug-ins/+bug/540648
(except that you said 'せん' (No?) on the same line but I don't know why)

To conclude, thank you to maintain these packages but if you want, I can
propose to you a new version of these packages with the same settings as
Cairo-Dock packages for Ubuntu (7 packages) but ported to Debian.

[Bug 803858] Re: No language chooser on login screen in LightDM

2011-09-21 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
Promising news; thanks Robert!

I haven't checked out this option yet. When I do, I suppose that a few
questions on what you say in comment #17 will be straightened out.

I for one hope that the language chooser will be enabled by default in
Ubuntu 12.04, and that related packages will be backported to Oneiric.
However, there is a need to dig into the details before a proper
decision on the topic can be made.

[Bug 855929] [NEW] gnome-shell does not show all running applications

2011-09-21 Thread Bernhard Schmidt
Public bug reported:

Since a few days my gnome-shell desktop does not show all running applications
in the taskswitcher (alt-tab) anymore. This sometimes affects entire
applications (i.e. all terminal windows), sometimes only a subset of them. They
appear in the activities window just fine.
I have no idea what triggers this. They get lost during their runtime and I
have not found a way to bring them back except for closing and reopening the
application.

[Bug 211336] Re: hibernate (works) but does not power down system

2011-09-21 Thread Matthias
I just confirmed the behavior with latest patched kernel
2.6.38-11-generic. First attempt at mainline kernel version 3.1 from
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/daily/current/ failed to
get me a real X session. I'll try the mainline version matching 2.6.38,
but there are various versions. Can you suggest which one would be best
suited to validate the mainline kernel?

[Bug 764536] Re: bluetooth doesn't work after suspend / resume on dell vostro 1310

2011-09-21 Thread Devius
This problem recently appeared on my system. It used to work fine with all
kernel versions that were available on Natty, but since I've upgraded to
Oneiric beta my bluetooth mouse doesn't work anymore after resuming from
suspend. The strange thing is that the panel indicator show as if bluetooth is
connected and the only way to get my mouse working again is to disable
bluetooth and enable it again. System is an Asus Eee PC 1000H running kernel
3.0.0-11 and the bluetooth adapter appears to be a device ID 0b05:b700 ASUSTek
Computer, Inc. Broadcom Bluetooth 2.1.
Should I file a new bug for this bluetooth adapter?

[Bug 745836] Re: soffice.bin crashed with SIGSEGV in cppu::throwException()

2011-09-21 Thread zmago
Well.. now when libre office crashed in log file was this:

soffice.bin[9804] general protection ip:7f73a09f9c09 sp:7fffb8f5f4a0
error:0 in libuno_cppuhelpergcc3.so.3[7f73a09db000+c8000]

Is little bit different than before when most of time i saw segfault.

How did this happen? i have 3 gb of ram. At the moment 1,2 gb used ,
13,1 mb swaped. Before i was running KVM virtual machine which forced OS
to swap. In this moment i was coping one big file from one folder to
other... so disk was busy. Office crashed after 1 minute of usage.

I hope Microsoft did not inject this bug in libre office that would
force us to buy MS office :)

cheers

[Bug 855887] Re: smart does not gracefully handle invalid Releases/Packages files

2011-09-21 Thread Andreas Hasenack
There is a smart package currently in {lucid,maverick,natty}-proposed
that catches http error codes. One such case was a 401 error
(unauthorized), which was also being downloaded as a Release file.

You nominated this bug for oneiric, are you sure it happens there as
well? I ask because the fix which was backported to lucid, maverick and
natty is already present in oneiric.

[Bug 855921] Re: does not honor netcfg/choose_interface in preseed

2011-09-21 Thread Monty Taylor
** Description changed:

if you pxeboot an image and hand it a preseed file, and in that preseed
- file you have netcfg/choose_interface=eth0, it doesn't work and it pops
- up a menu and asks you what interface you want as your default
- interface.
+ file you have:
+
+ d-i netcfg/choose_interface select eth0
+
+ it doesn't work and it pops up a menu and asks you what interface you
+ want as your default interface.

If, however, you pass netcfg/choose_interface=eth0 to the kernel as a
boot option - it works as expected and does not display a menu option
  for this value.

In a room full of headless machines being booted by cobbler, displaying
menus is bad, as is not having those machines be able to find dhcp.

[Bug 855922] [NEW] Nautilus seg-faults

2011-09-21 Thread Corbin
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 11.10 Oniric

Today or yesterday, nautilus had an update. This bug may be related to a
change in that update.

Nautilus crashed. I restarted it with a terminal, so I could read it's

says that it had a segmentation fault. I copied the text from the
terminal, and am posting it as 'seg-fault.txt'
