[Bug 1382190] Re: LXCs assigned IPs by MAAS DHCP lack DNS PTR entries

2014-10-17 Thread Jeroen T. Vermeulen
I agree: this is a clear-cut case for the request-an-address API, but we
still lack a request-a-hostname API.

Out of curiosity, how did the existing setup(s) obtain these generated
hostnames in the first place? To my knowledge they were neither exposed
nor documented. MAAS never had much control over which non-node client
got which address from DHCP, and that's why we had to re-work DHCP
management. These old generated hostnames were no more stable than the
IP addresses were: if the container moved to a different IP address, it
would also move to a different hostname.

So if at all possible, I would address the problem in two discrete
steps:

1. Use the container's IP address, not its hostname. It should be about
as stable as the hostname was.

2. Request a static IP through the MAAs API, and configure it statically
on the container.

[Bug 1382190] Re: LXCs assigned IPs by MAAS DHCP lack DNS PTR entries

Ah, I see that using the IP address is not an option in this case. So
we'll have to add a way to manage DNS entries.

2014-10-17 Thread Raphaël Badin
Out of curiosity, how did the existing setup(s) obtain these generated
hostnames in the first place? To my knowledge they were
 neither exposed nor documented.

As Jeroen said, we need to understand this in order to suggest a
solution that fits CTS' needs. My guess is that they where deriving the
hostname from the IP address manually, having observed the pattern
that MAAS uses.

Agreed that the path of least resistance at this stage is to improve the
new reserve IPAPI to include a hostname and use that in Juju.

[Bug 1382481] [NEW] CloudStack support in Precise

2014-10-17 Thread Vincent Bernat
Public bug reported:

cloud-init in Precise is unable to handle CloudStack because it tries to
query the default gateway instead of the virtual router. This is fixed
in later versions of cloud-init but it would be convenient to backport
the fix in the precise-updates. Attached is a patch fixing that. Tested
with CloudStack 4.3 and works fine.

2014-10-17 Thread Robie Basak
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information.

Example: no versions of anything reported, and you haven't stated what
release your report relates to.

If you haven't checked the latest development release (Utopic), then
please check and report whether the modules are still not compiled in
there.

Once you've updated the bug, please change the status back to New.

Stock reply:

You may find it helpful to read How to report bugs effectively
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Bug 1381383] Re: Vm destroyed when created virsh create without --autodestroy

2014-10-17 Thread Robie Basak
Thank you for your report.

This looks like a local configuration problem, rather than a bug in
Ubuntu.

Your supplied XML contains on_poweroffdestroy/on_poweroff. Your VM
got destroyed on shutdown because this is what you requested.

You can find pointers to get help for this sort of problem here:
http://www.ubuntu.com/support/community

Since we use this bug tracker to track bugs in Ubuntu, rather than
configuration problems, I'm marking this bug as Invalid. This helps us
to focus on fixing bugs in Ubuntu.

If you believe that this is really a bug, then we'd be grateful if you
would then explain why you believe this is a bug in Ubuntu rather than a
problem specific to your configuration, and then change the bug status
back to New.

[Bug 1373589] Re: several CVE's for tomcat 6.0.39 in trusty

2014-10-17 Thread Marc Deslauriers
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. Since the package referred to in this bug is in universe or
multiverse, it is community maintained. If you are able, I suggest
coordinating with upstream and posting a debdiff for this issue. When a
debdiff is available, members of the security team will review it and
publish the package. See the following link for more information:

[Bug 1382632] Re: Insecure key file permissions

2014-10-17 Thread Andreas Hasenack
The secret_key file is created when python manage.py collectstatic is
run, it seems.

We have two packages that run this command in postinst: openstack-
dashboard-ubuntu-theme and openstack-dashboard. In this scenario,
-ubuntu-theme is installed first. It runs that command in postinst, the
file is created, and apparently with the incorrect permissions: 0644

Then openstack-dashboard runs it again, and this time the secret_key
file already exists, and it complains about the incorrect permissions.

[Bug 1380095] Re: Gnome Fallback[s] don't work in 14.04. Work once ONLY if reinstalled

2014-10-17 Thread Alberts Muktupāvels
Not sure if there is easy way to repair your sistem. I would suggest to
try clean install.

You have log file full of warnings about missing programs. You have put
many launchers on panel, bet programs does not exist for them anymore.
This is what I see from log messages.

You say that clicking on panel makes it crash/disappear. It could crash
because panel fails to find program you try to launch. If so this is
definetly bug as panel should not crash in such cases (I have no time to
verify this).

If you run programs from terminal and then close terminal it won't close
only terminal, it will close all other programs you launched from
terminal. Add ' ' at the end of programs names when you launch
applications - 'gnome-panel --replace ' . And if you want close
terminal don't do it by clicking close button but type 'exit' command in
terminal.

You can see your username in terminal.

[Bug 1380230] Re: Potential Vulnerability for X509 Certificate Verification

2014-10-17 Thread Jerry Zhang
In this case, our algorithm is not accurate. Actually it didn't find
SSL_new for other reasons. So the above result can't support our
conclusion.

But later we verified the code manually and found that jabberd2 didn't
call SSL_CTX_set_verify(), so it must be that jabberd2 didn't verify the
certificate.

Sorry for the confusion.

[Bug 1382046] Re: libvirt-bin unaware of uids on LDAP when started via systemd

2014-10-17 Thread Harald Hannelius
Oops, I seem to be running /sbin/init as PID #1, this is a symlink to
upstart . I thought I was running systemd, since my /home on NFS didn't
get mounted on boot anymore, and this is a known issue with systemd.

After the upgrade from 14.4 LTS to 14.10 utopic I was about to start my
virtual machines. As myself I was unable to do so;

$ virsh list
error: failed to connect to the hypervisor
error: no valid connection
error: Failed to find user record for uid 'xxx': No such file or directory

I then restarted libvirt-bin and 'virsh list' works again. The command
worked for root all the time.

[Bug 1357321] Re: QNetworkAccessManager doesn't support roaming on Ubuntu

2014-10-17 Thread Lorn Potter
I now have a mako to test on.

As far as I can tell, those patches did not fix this. At leastnow the
bearer backend is mostly working.

Tested with the soundcloud scope tutorial app :) and one I made testing
QNAM/QNetworkConfiguration and friends.

I think the problem is the bearer backend does not find any usable
configurations when connected to mobile data.

Will do more work on the bearer backend...

[Bug 1240940] Re: Need support for Realtek Wifi card rtl8723be [10ec:b723]

2014-10-17 Thread dpacmittal
I have two USB - one is inbuilt my laptop which uses driver rtl8723be, and
another netgear USB adapter which uses driver rtl8192cu.
Both of them are dropping the connection.

I tried #55 and now 8192cu doesn't load at all rendering my USB adapter
useless. rtl8723be seems to be better. Connection drops have become
lesser, although they are still there. And when it happens I can simply
disconnect and reconnect to the wifi. No need to unload and reload the
driver module.

Re: [Bug 1380095] Re: Gnome Fallback[s] don't work in 14.04. Work once ONLY if reinstalled

2014-10-17 Thread Peter-and-Crazybear
On 17/10/14 08:09, Alberts Muktupāvels wrote:

None of the launchers/programs I tried to launch are the ones now
missing [they are not displayed]. The are ones I have successfully used
only a few days before today. My panels are all black now and not pretty
- why did you want me to change them and can they be changed back to
colored and partly transparent? You are correct about using exit rather
than the close button. But I don't want to launch programs from
terminal, but from launchers on a panel. Is there not a way to just
re-install the likely problematic packages, such as gnome-panel and a
few related? On the username - yes it shows in terminal, but I had my
old username and created another, and can enter into 14.04 using either
- but I think they may be the same 'user' with two different names - but
not sure. They share the same password and seem to be identical - except
for the name.

[Bug 1382278] Re: Image #94 on mako / #88 on flo fails to start - mir crash

Same on #95, and also after --bootstrap. My crashes on #95 after the
--bootstrap wipe are as follows. I tried a local backtracing but for
some reason it's failing to find ExecutablePath for all of them, so I
sent them now to Launchpad:

[Bug 886680] Re: Dia fails to install from the Software Center: There isn't a software package called dia-gnome-gnome in your current software sources

2014-10-17 Thread Johannes
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 946945 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/946945

For new users which might come across this bug: A simple workaround is the
installation with:
sudo apt-get install dia-gnome

And then starting it with:
dia

Both in a Terminal.

[Bug 1380095] Re: Gnome Fallback[s] don't work in 14.04. Work once ONLY if reinstalled

2014-10-17 Thread Alberts Muktupāvels
Are you using default theme - Ambiance? Then panels should not be black.
I wanted that you change back to system theme to check if problem is in
custom style. I know one person who had problems with transparent
panels. Problem disappeared when he changed settings back to system
theme.

Transparency does not work fully anyway so I would suggest to use system
theme for now. I have plans on fixing panel background, but that
probably wont happen this year - so background probably will be broken
even in ubuntu 15.04 version. :(

Reinstall wont solve anything. You can try to reset gnome-panel configuration
(see accepted answer):
http://askubuntu.com/questions/125662/how-to-reset-gnome-panel

NOTE: It will remove all your customization to panel and will reset to default.
Then try if now gnome-panel starts every time you login. If all good try to
start customize it step by step:
1) Add custom launcher - do several reboots.
2) Try to customize panel style - do serveral reboots.

This way you will find what part is causing problem or you will be lucky
and problem will disappear.

[Bug 1301125] Re: Lock screen after idle time freezes unity

2014-10-17 Thread psnizek
Exactly the same issue here. Fresh installation and opensource (no
catalyst) ati drivers (Radeon HD 4670). This is frustrating, especially
as it is already half a year after the 14.04 release. When 12.04 came
out, I changed the graphics card (removed NVidia 8800 and replaced it by
Radeon 4670) on my workstation because I couldn't get the system work
correctly. Do we have to change graphics cards possibly everytime after
a major release?? Pardon me for this small rant, but this is utterly
frustrating. That said, I'd like to mention that the broken suspend
function hasn't been fixed now in years. We run more than 5 different
computers and laptops here in the office. Not one is able to suspend and
to resume correctly. I know that doesn't belong into this thread, but I
just needed to rant and unload some frustration that I picked up over
months and years. Other than that, I love Ubuntu :-)(despite some
new window/menu related focusing issues in Unity lately...)

[Bug 1382190] Re: LXCs assigned IPs by MAAS DHCP lack DNS PTR entries

2014-10-17 Thread Raphaël Badin
Out of curiosity, how did the existing setup(s) obtain these generated
hostnames in the first place? To my knowledge they were
 neither exposed nor documented.

As Jeroen said, we need to understand this in order to suggest a
solution that fits CTS' needs. My guess is that they where deriving the
hostname from the IP address manually, having observed the pattern
that MAAS uses.

Agreed that the path of least resistance at this stage is to improve the
new reserve IPAPI to include a hostname and use that in Juju.

[Bug 1381105] Re: [camera-app] mir/trust-store fails to show up the trust-store dialog when enabling location support

2014-10-17 Thread Thomas Voß
Yup, it times out because the trust-prompt started by:

  core::trust::mir::Agent::authenticate_request_with_parameters

Almost never succeeds to connect to Mir/Unity8 via its trusted socket.
It seems like U8 is entirely blocked by something, probably on the
graphics pipeline as a whole (but other parts might obviously cause the
issue, too).

[Bug 1379296] Re: unity8-dash should be excluded from app lifecycle management

2014-10-17 Thread Oliver Grawert
if the dash would not be in lifecycle management at all and you would
have gotten your system in such a state, the kernel would just have
randomly killed bits of your session instead of the dash.

it is wanted that in such cases the dash gets killed before i.e. ofono gets
killed so that your session still stays functional.
imho the behavior is just fine, in case the sysem functions normal it should be
the last of your UI apps that gets killed.
in case where not even that would free up enough memory you have a whole lot of
bigger probs ... the bug here lies within the apps that consume all your ram
where they should not.

Public bug reported:

The recent security update make it easy to trigger debian bug #710924 -
i.e. apt does not deal well with 416 requests from the remote server.

TEST CASE:
1 install latest apt from security
2 run sudo apt-get update
3 run sudo apt-get update again and ctrl somewhere in the middle
4 run sudo apt-get update again
5 verify that you get either 404 or 416 errors

6 install the updated version from prospoed
