[Bug 1629203] Re: aa-logprof does not include #include in profiles

2016-09-30 Thread sles
I created profile for mariadb , which is empty in Ubuntu 16.04 by using
aa-logprof,
just added path and complain flag to it, and, after aa-logprof suggested to
include includes like
abstractions/base I got above error.

I guess this is quite easy to reproduce...

Never had such problem before, so it I spent quite long time to find
where problem is, so, I think, automation tools like aa-logprof have to
generate working profiles.

Thank you!

with any kernels between 4.4.0-21 and 4.4.0-38, so I don't know at which

Re: [Bug 1608251] Re: package base-files 9.4ubuntu4 failed to install/upgrade: package is in a very bad inconsistent state; you should reinstall it before attempting configuration

2016-09-30 Thread Muqsith
Hi,
I am sorry I do not remember what exactly I was doing that time (Date: Sun
Jul 31 22:18:01 2016), but I can recollect a bit.
I had got new Intel NUX for myself on 30th July and I started setting up
Ubuntu on it. After successful installation of Ubuntu 16.04, I started
installing few other software beginning with Chrome browser and I believe
I got stuck here itself while installing Chrome browser.
But later on I moved ahead I don't know what I did but some how this
problem was gone and further I never faced it.

Kind regards,
muqsith

[Bug 1629504] [NEW] Compiles, but brings on Oops on load with 4.8-rc

2016-09-30 Thread Fjodor
Public bug reported:

I shall leave it to more Makefile-knowledgeable people to edit the
Makefile to make certain that compilation fails on wrong pointer types,
but what I saw was kernel Oopses when booting 4.8-rc on 16.04,
specifically referencing wl.

Having done some work on another wifi driver that was kind enough to
spew compilation errors, it suddenly hit me that I might try these
changes, and so far, it works for me on 4.8-rc8.

I don't know which kernel 16.10 is targeting, but consider this a heads-
up, and apply at your will.

Best regards,

F

[Bug 1616764] Re: [MIR] python-oslo.privsep

2016-09-30 Thread Seth Arnold
James and Corey, thanks for the feedback.

I reviewed python-oslo.privsep version 1.13.0-0ubuntu1 as checked into
yakkety; this shouldn't be considered a full security audit.

oslo.privsep tries to provide more granular tools than calling sudo from
openstack scripts, and implements an RPC mechanism using yaml across
a socket to a more privileged execution environment for finer-grained
access.

I did not discover any CVEs in our database

- Build-Depends: debhelper, dh-python, openstack-pkg-tools
- This package can spawn on-demand daemons needed for the privsep RPC
mechanism to function; it mostly daemonizes correctly but the umask(0)
setting feels archaic and prone to fail-open problems.
- pre/post inst/rm scripts clean up after themselves, but a lintian error
indicates a problem with the update-alternatives tool that ought to be
  fixed
- No initscripts
- No dbus services
- No setuid executables
- python3-privsep-helper and python2-privsep-helper executables in path
- No sudo fragments, but uses sudo internally
- No udev rules
- I didn't inspect the test suite closely; 31 tests are run during the
build, which feels on the small side, but it's something
- Mostly-clean build logs

- A subprocess is spawned via subprocess.Popen() -- while it passes a
string, and thus lacks the correctness of an array-based execution, the
string does appear to be constructed from configuration file contents,
and is handled with shell=False. It may not be ideal but it's probably
  fine.
- No file IO
- Minimal logging
- Does not itself use environment variables, module imports may
- Uses setuid, setgid, setgroups, prctl to manipulate capabilities
Uses CFFI and hard-codes capabilities numbers for some caps
- No cryptography
- Uses unix networking sockets
- There are privileged portions of code, reached via a unix domain socket
from the 'unprivileged' side of the codebase.
- No temporary file handling
- No WebKit
- No javascript
- No policykit

While most of this project was well-developed, I have my concerns about
specific aspects of the system. It is probably still an improvement over
the status quo from before the package's introduction. It doesn't feel
quite ready yet but I understand that removing it would be complicated,
and 16.10 will only be supported for nine months, so if it's a too-large
risk, the consequences are bounded.

We may need the server team's help adapting projects in the event one or
more of the these bugs results in necessary changes to clients:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1628360
https://bugs.launchpad.net/oslo.privsep/+bug/1628738

Security team ACK for promoting python-oslo.privsep to main.

Thanks

[Bug 1629497] [NEW] sftp vfs support not using key-based authentication

2016-09-30 Thread mith brown
Public bug reported:

Hi,

I've been able to successfully use key-based authentication using the
FISH protocol (I just run: cd sh://centos in mc's command line and it
would work). centos is described in my ~/.ssh/config as follows:

Host centos
HostName 192.168.1.239
IdentityFile ~/.ssh/centos
User centos

and it successfully logs in when I provide it with the Host in my
~/.ssh/config file without prompting me for a name or password.

However, the same is not true when I select SFTP instead (cd
sftp://centos) and it requests a password, so it looks like the SFTP VFS
is not processing all the lines in ~/.ssh/config.

I checked and noticed this ticket upstream - https://www.midnight-
commander.org/ticket/3238 - that says that they resolved this issue in
4.8.15. However, on 4.8.15 on Ubuntu 16.04, I still have this problem.
I downloaded and installed from source code (v4.8.17) and indeed the
issue was fixed in upstream.

I am using the latest version of mc on Ubuntu. Here are the package
details:

$ apt policy mc
mc:
  Installed: 3:4.8.15-2
  Candidate: 3:4.8.15-2
  Version table:
 *** 3:4.8.15-2 500
500 http://au.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu xenial/universe amd64 Packages

Thanks.

[Bug 1609898] Re: dhclient incorrectly assumes a /64 ipv6 prefix

2016-09-30 Thread LaMont Jones
With this fix, my IPv6 service from Comcast broke.

Specifically, they hand out an IP on the /64 via dhcpv6, with the
default gateway being an IP on the same /64, along with an IA /56 for
the customer to use locally.

Adding the default route fails because there is no route to said gateway
(since we have decided that we have a /128).

[Bug 1547286] Re: 16.04 installer can't get past "Force UEFI installation"

2016-09-30 Thread Reuben Firmin
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1418706 ***

Can confirm, this is related to "Download updates". Without this option
selected (and wifi off, if that matters), you still get the dialog, but
this time the buttons are functional.

Note, this bug is _not_ a duplicate of #1418706 -- I encountered it on a
brand new Dell laptop with Windows 10 on the drive, so it has nothing to
do with the drive being blank.

[Bug 1629482] [NEW] 4.4.0-38-generic reboots periodically

2016-09-30 Thread Eugene Lazutkin
Public bug reported:

When upgrading a server to 4.4.0-38-generic, it started to reboot every
~45 minutes without any visible reasons. Logs look fine. Just reboots.
My other computer (a desktop) works fine with the same setup. Another
difference: the server hosts ZFS raid.

Unfortunately (fortunately) I had this problem ~2 years ago. That time
after much debugging it turned out to be a kernel problem. So I loaded a
previous kernel (4.4.0-36-generic), and it is rock solid again.

[Bug 1629480] [NEW] Internal Hard Drives Detected as Removable and External USB Drive as Non-Removable

2016-09-30 Thread Theodore Frederick
Public bug reported:

I excepted the 'dmraid' to detect my internal SATA Hard Drive as a non-
removable device

However, instead it reads it as removable and I am 95% sure it is a kernel
problem due to it showing ones (removable) instead of zeros (non-removable) in
/sys/class/block//removable.
The only hard drive that has the correct listing is the one Ubuntu is installed
on.
