Hi, didn't find something directly related from above WMI events. Could you try following to kernel parameters sets separately: 1. "module_blacklist=wmi": this will disable wmi completely 2. [Bug 1857584] [NEW] MySQL X protocol port 33060 listening on network by default
Public bug reported: MySQL Server 8.0 (on Eoan) binds to / listens on *:33060/tcp (MySQL X protocol) by default. For the classic shell it binds to localhost:3306/tcp only, as users will have gotten used to expect. This seems like a potentially dangerous change of defaults - users may not expect the service to start listening on an additional port (33060), and may not expect the MySQL X protocol server to bind to *. By default, no authentication should be possible from the network on the MySQL X protocol (I tested using the debian-sys-maint user and its password, as well as the root user, without a password). Some users may, however, assume that network access is not possible and choose to set simple mysql user passwords (for access from any host). Doing so would certainly involve negligent operation on the users' part, but this does not make it unlikely to happen. Ubuntu should (continue to) come with secure defaults, where services which are more likely to be used locally only (at least initially) should not listen on the network (anywhere but on localhost anyways) by default. [Bug 17682]
(In reply to hackmmn from comment #279) > Je ne comprend pas mieux l'anglais... J'suis perdu ici. [Bug 1856534] Re: Touchpad not working after update
Bug reports aren't for support, for support options please refer to https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/finding-help/709 I believe kernel linux-image-4.15.0-73-generic (currently in proposed) will move to 'main' on January 5, 2020. For enabling proposed (suggested in comment #13 and others in the bug report 1854798 I believe this is a duplicate of, which will let you use it now) see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Repositories/Ubuntu and https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed If it solves your issue (best if done before it's live for everyone Jan 5 probably) PLEASE report back here that here it works. If it doesn't work, then it may be you have a unique situation that may need attention its not getting due likely duplicate. [Bug 104617] Re: CMI8738 5.1 center speaker is mute
CMI8738 is not well-supported by alsa. Running with a center channel volume issue (center volume constant, whatever the master volume). I found out that master volume worked only for front/rear channel, not center which stick to its initial value. Pulseaudio volume for separate channel are not effectless. amixer set no gauge for center/lfe, hence impossible to change it. Seems that with this chip, when in 5.1 mic is not available and Mic-in and center/lfe is on the same control. I don't know if alsa is wrong or if CMI8738 is just a crap. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/104617 Title: CMI8738 5.1 center speaker is mute To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alsa-utils/+bug/104617/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1857563] [NEW] Kubuntu Installation does not allow to set password for Encrypted Volume
Public bug reported: Installing Kubuntu allows to partition the system manually choosing "Manual" in the disk setup dialog. There you can add a new partition. When choosing the type "Volume for Encryption", nothing really happens. Normally the installer should ask for the password for the encrypted volume and then mount it, so it can be used as installation target. Instead it just shows as a crypto partition but the user cannot do anything with it. Steps to reproduce: - Use Kubuntu 19.10 installer on usb stick - in disk setup choose manual (for manual partitioning) - create a new partition with type "Volume for Encryption" - What happens: Volume is created but user cannot set password or configure the volume's mount point - Expected: Here you should somehow be able to enter the volume password for the new volume, then it should be mounted and then you can change the mount point for the installation Importance: this does block a user from using the ui installer to setup an encrypted dual boot. Workaround: use ubuntu installer to setup encrypted system and then install kubuntu-desktop PS: Not sure if this is the right place to report ** Affects: kde-workspace (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Description changed: - Installing Kubuntu during disk setup choosing the manual setup does - allow to set the partition "Volume for Encryption". + Installing Kubuntu allows to partition the system manually choosing "Manual" in the disk setup dialog. + There you can add a new partition. [Bug 1796081] Re: dpkg frontend locking
I think it can be made to work. I do not know how apt/dpkg is implemented, but I made an example by Bash: script.sh file: #!/bin/bash # exec {var}>/tmp/lock flock -n $var || { echo already locked; exit 1; } LOCK= /path/to/subscript.sh # edit this path subscript.sh file: #!/bin/bash # [[ -v LOCK ]] && { kill $PPID; sleep 3; } # kill the caller exec {var}>/tmp/lock flock -n $var && echo was not locked || echo was locked The subscript.sh above kills the caller (if LOCK variable is set in its environment). The subscript shows the lock is set even thereafter until the subscript finishes. Anyway I am missing something: Even if I lock /var/lib/dpkg/lock or /var/lib/dpkg/lock-frontend this way (instead of locking /tmp/lock), that does not prevent installing a package by apt install or dpkg --install. But if I run Synaptic package manager by pkexec "/usr/sbin/synaptic", it locks the files and prevents installing by apt or dpkg from outside. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1796081 Title: dpkg frontend locking To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/dpkg/+bug/1796081/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1857544] Re: package samba 2:4.3.11+dfsg-0ubuntu0.16.04.24 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1
Thanks for filing this bug in Ubuntu. You seem to have an invalid configuration setting in your /etc/samba/smb.conf: $ testparm ./smb.conf WARNING: The "syslog" option is deprecated WARNING: Ignoring invalid value 'server' for parameter 'security' Load smb config files from ./smb.conf WARNING: The "syslog" option is deprecated WARNING: Ignoring invalid value 'server' for parameter 'security' Error loading services. The "security" parameter can only have the values "auto", "user", "domain" or "ads". The reason you are seeing this error just now is probably because a samba update triggers a service restart. The other reason your attempts at purging samba didn't help is because the config file /etc/samba/smb.conf is generated by the samba-common package, not samba. I suggest to fix your smb.conf and then try: sudo apt update sudo apt -f install Or purge samba-common, which will remove smb.conf, and start over. ** Changed in: samba (Ubuntu) Status: New => Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1857544 Title: package samba 2:4.3.11+dfsg-0ubuntu0.16.04.24 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/samba/+bug/1857544/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1856871] Re: i/o error if next unused loop device is queried
Ok so in fact the inconsistency is due to "parted" that will try to probe devices iff the given block device return informations from stat(), regardless if the block device is available or not. Seems like the only trigger/criteria is the stat() return. Since the loop device stat doesn't clear/reset once umounted/detacted, then parted assume it can go ahead and probe it assuming it is a legit device. # libparted/arch/linux.c 618 static int 619 _device_stat (PedDevice* dev, struct stat * dev_stat) 620 { 621 PED_ASSERT (dev != NULL); 622 PED_ASSERT (!dev->external_mode); 623 624 while (1) { 625 if (!stat (dev->path, dev_stat)) { 626 return 1; 627 } else { 628 if (ped_exception_throw ( 629 PED_EXCEPTION_ERROR, 630 PED_EXCEPTION_RETRY_CANCEL, 631 _("Could not stat device %s - %s."), 632 dev->path, 633 strerror (errno)) 634 != PED_EXCEPTION_RETRY) 635 return 0; 636 } 637 } 638 } Example: # parted -s $(losetup -f) unit s print Warning: Error fsyncing/closing /dev/loop18: Input/output error # stat $(losetup -f) File: /dev/loop18 Size: 0 Blocks: 0 IO Block: 4096 block special file Device: 6h/6d Inode: 509 Links: 1 Device type: 7,12 Access: (0660/brw-rw) Uid: (0/root) Gid: (6/disk) Access: 2019-12-25 13:05:15.543108777 -0500 Modify: 2019-12-25 13:05:15.543108777 -0500 Change: 2019-12-25 13:05:15.543108777 -0500 Birth: - # parted -s /dev/loop19 unit s print Error: Could not stat device /dev/loop19 - No such file or directory. # stat /dev/loop19 stat: cannot stat '/dev/loop19': No such file or directory -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1856871 Title: i/o error if next unused loop device is queried To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1856871/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1857545] Re: Multi-monitor fullscreen - wrong monitor selection
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode. To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1857545/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package. I have tried installing the package from Buster. That has resolved the crash - the program ended gracefully. However the underlying problem is still there - devices without interface 0 will not work. [Bug 1676763] Re: usb_modeswitch_dispatcher crashed with SIGSEGV in strrchr()
Hmmm, it seems that this bug exists *only* in Ubuntu and not in Debian. Ubuntu source package contains a patch that rewrites the usb_modeswitch_dispatcher program from Tcl to C. While there must have been good reasons to do this, there is at least one more bug in the rewritten version. On line 422 in file usb_modeswitch_dispatcher.c there is an assignment of NULL to a char pointer. This pointer is later passed to printf when forming the usb_modeswitch command. Therefore there should be strdup("") instead of null pointer, as now usb_modeswitch is launched literally with "(null)" argument produced by printf. Would it be possible to remove the rewrite and switch back to Tcl (at least for new releases of Ubuntu)? It seems that the upstream package has switched to some lightweight Tcl interpreter (Jim). This could remove some of the reasons why it had to be rewritten (extra dependencies, boot time?). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1676763 Title: usb_modeswitch_dispatcher crashed with SIGSEGV in strrchr() To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/usb-modeswitch/+bug/1676763/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Thank you, Martin, for providing this simple but clever and VERY effective workaround! I can confirm that it works. I'd like to add, that you have to execute this script with 'bash fix_sound.sh'. 'sh fix_sound.sh' doesn't work because debian and ubuntu use dash as non-interactive shell and dash cannot handle that kind of assertion: <<<.
