2021-06-12 Thread James Jones
I'm seeing this error also, though as far as I can tell, it doesn't
preclude the installation or upgrade of other packages I've installed or
upgraded so far. On my system (an RPi4, 8GB, with Ubuntu 20.10 installed
with Berryboot), /boot/firmware exists, but it's just a plain directory
and not a mounted filesystem.

Does the problem happen with wxMaxima, too? If not I would guess
something chokes on two subsequent slashes ("/") in a pathname.

[Bug 1931785] Re: Laptop suspends when lid is closed even with Tweaks setting turning that off

2021-06-12 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1931785/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1931785] [NEW] Laptop suspends when lid is closed even with Tweaks setting turning that off

2021-06-12 Thread Chris
Public bug reported:

All of a sudden my laptop suspends when the lid is closed for any period
of time. I’m running a dual operating system on it so it’s a hassle to
try to restart with the normal suspend feature. I was able to turn it
off at one point but it’s not working anymore for some reason even with
turning the tweaks setting for suspending when lid closed on and off.

Fixed in Ubuntu 20.04! You just need to add a link-scope route for your

[Bug 1900008] Re: Sessions of screen does not keep running in background

2021-06-12 Thread Gustavo A . Díaz
Ok, today I have some time, I am installing Ubuntu Desktop 20.04 in
VirtualBox.

Meanwhile, the only way to keep a session alive (in KDE Neon 20.04) is
by using:

systemd-run --scope --user screen

Will keep posted once I've tested in the Ubuntu installation.

[Bug 1931779] Re: kdump just hung out of the box

2021-06-12 Thread Rich
** Description changed:

I tried installing kdump-tools (1.6.7-1ubuntu2.2) on my up to date 20.04
system, installed specifically to try reproducing a bug.

But when I tried, after kdump-config status reported "ready to dump" on
reboot, echo 'c' | sudo tee /proc/sysrq-trigger, it printed the panic to
console and then just hung forever.

After some blind guessing and twiddling both variables, I found that
- crashkernel=512M-:256M works.
+ crashkernel=512M-:256M works on this particular setup. (MS7850
+ motherboard, i5-4670 CPU, 5.4.0-42-generic kernel)

But changed printer from default to one with .local at end of name then
worked.

Not sure why hpcups 3.20.3 printer and driverless cups-filter 1.27.4

[Bug 1931767] Re: Ubuntu 20.04 freezes when I connect external monitor through USB-C

2021-06-12 Thread Chris Guiver
Please execute the following command only once, as it will automatically
gather debugging information, in a terminal:

apport-collect 1931767

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu-
bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this
functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

Bug reporting is about finding & fixing problems thus preventing future
users from hitting the same bug.

I suspect a Support site would be more appropriate, eg.
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu. You can also find help with your
problem in the support forum of your local Ubuntu community
http://loco.ubuntu.com/ or asking at https://askubuntu.com or
https://ubuntuforums.org, or for more support options please look at

[Bug 1931778] [NEW] Display goes blank/off regardless

2021-06-12 Thread ThePhilips
Public bug reported:

Fresh up-to-date Xubuntu 21.04 install.

In Settings:
Disabled screen saver
Disabled display power manager

Expected result:
Screen remains on forever

Actual result:
Screen is turned off after about 5 minutes(?)

Googling very hard suggested "xset s off" as a solution in a thread dating back
to 2012.
Little bit more investigating showed that Xfce screen saver changes "xset s"
params - they reflect the timeout specified in Settings. But when you turn off
the Xfce's screen saver, it doesn't do 'xset s off' - it resets it back to
defaults (on, 300 seconds). This behavior is just plain wrong.

[Bug 1930409] Re: Pulseaudio 14.2 says: GetManagedObjects() failed: org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply: Did not receive a reply. ...

2021-06-12 Thread rud
I did that, as said, I do not get anything, just returns to $ and a 0
byte .upload file with the same name appears in /var/crash. I tried
multiple times.

I installed Ubuntu Budgie 21.04 after downloading the image and
verifying checksum, I installed it now on 5 different systems, each one
shows the exact same crash file (attached). There is no way to send it.

Also, there are no weird behaviors, everything just works. But the
message is annoying. I got it first only at initial boot after install
but now I notice it appears also after subsequent reboots, if I deleted
the file in /var/crash before rebooting.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Reviewing your dmesg attachment in this bug report it
seems that there is a problem with your hardware. I recommend
performing a back up and then investigating the situation. Measures you
might take include checking cable connections and using software tools
to investigate the health of your hardware. In the event that is is not
in fact an error with your hardware please set the bug's status back to
New. Thanks and good luck!

[Bug 1866497] Re: Lubuntu-Installation crashed bei der Erhebung der Login-Daten und der Benutzerinformationen

2021-06-12 Thread Paul White
I'm sorry it took so long to get back to you but thank you for reporting
your installation problem.

The following errors can be found in UbiquitySyslog.txt which was
automatically attached to this bug report:

Mar 7 19:08:08 lubuntu kernel: [ 54.977935] SQUASHFS error: zlib
decompression failed, data probably corrupt
Mar 7 19:08:08 lubuntu kernel: [ 54.977938] SQUASHFS error:
squashfs_read_data failed to read block 0x3b98c6de

It's possible you had a bad write to your media. When having such
problems you should try the option to check the integrity of the image
from the installer boot menu, and if this confirms that the media is
corrupt, you should try re-writing and/or re-downloading it.

However, since raising this bug report Lubuntu 18.04 has become 'End of life' -
see
https://lubuntu.me/downloads/ for the current Lubuntu downloadable ISO images.

[Bug 1931773] [NEW] ubiquity-frontend-kde: the secure boot configurations are not in the disabled state when "installing third-party drivers" is unselected

2021-06-12 Thread Luna
Public bug reported:

Steps to reproduce:

1. Enable secure boot;
2. Open ubiquity kde_ui and go to next screen after the keyboard one.

Observed behavior:
The third-party drivers checkbox is unselected and the secure boot
configuration is not disabled like in ubiquity-frontend-gtk, suggesting that
secure boot should be configured even if the third-party drivers option is
disabled. I tested here and configured the secure boot without checking the
drivers option and ubiquity didn't show any warning.

problems please try the option to check the integrity of the image from

[Bug 1931767] Re: Ubuntu 20.04 freezes when I connect external monitor through USB-C

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1931767/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1863434] Re: 20.04 grub menu not visible

2021-06-12 Thread Fritz Hudnut
@Alexey:

In my case on my '12 cMP that "GRUB_TERMINAL=console" as already set
that way, so that wasn't "the solution" to a problem that has been
affecting likely "EFI" boot computers for a year or more??

In my case I use my OpenSUSE installs to re-install grub2 . . . and that
restores grub function, but they have slightly different commands than
on the ubuntu side of things. But, possibly if you scroll up to #86
comment, I did just check in Launchpad and see that indeed grub 2.06 is
there as tar.gz file . . . and he suggested that as the way to "fix"
the problem, which indeed appears to be "shim" related.

Another way I tried was to do a fresh install of a distro, that will
also re-install grub, but then, if still in grub 2.04 in another install
. . . likely will wipe grub menu again, etc.

ubuntu 20.04 uses version 1.8.9.
Any plans to backport this fix?

Looks like it should be easy:

-setsid /lib/mandos/mandos-to-cryptroot-unlock &
+# Use setsid if available
+if command -v setsid >/dev/null 2>&1; then
+ setsid /lib/mandos/mandos-to-cryptroot-unlock &
