[Bug 1973397] Re: Ubuntu 22.04: Display manager resets when trying to change it using gear icon in login window

2022-05-22 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Please remove nomodeset from /etc/default/grub and then run:

  sudo update-grub

and reboot. "nomodeset" will prevent almost all graphics drivers from
working - you don't want that.

Please also ensure you have a valid driver installed for the "GeForce
930MX" by using the 'Additional Drivers' app to install the right one.

[Bug 1871148] Re: services start before apparmor profiles are loaded

2022-05-22 Thread Alberto Mardegan
Thanks Etienne, this is a bit surprising! Do I understand correctly,
that on the slower machine (where you are seeing this bug) you will not
be able to start firefox until you have run that apparmor_parser
command? Not even if you try starting firefox well after the login?

It's strange, because your logs show that the apparmor.service unit was
started can you please also attach the output of these commands:

sudo systemctl status apparmor
sudo journalctl -b _SYSTEMD_UNIT=apparmor.service + SYSLOG_IDENTIFIER=audit

And then also this (make sure you haven't previously started firefox in
this boot):

SNAPD_DEBUG=1 firefox

And after that, let's have a look at the full system log (I have no
clear idea what to look for, actually, but maybe I'll spot something
suspicious):

sudo journalctl -b

[Bug 1953745] Re: [MIR] oem-sutton.newell-cahya-meta

2022-05-22 Thread Bin Li
Attach oem-sutton.newell-cahya-meta_20.04~ubuntu1.debdiff by oem-scripts
1.30.

** Summary changed:

- [DRAFT][MIR] oem-sutton.newell-cahya-meta
+ [MIR] oem-sutton.newell-cahya-meta

** Description changed:

- [DRAFT][Background]
+ [Background]

  Please see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MIRTeam/Exceptions/OEM and
  https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates/OEMMeta for details.

  [Impact]

   1. Upgrade path: Users will be upgrading from a package in the associated
OEM archive, not the Ubuntu archive.
   2. The background and impact of the situation for this change, and it's
impact.

  [Testing]

   1. Test that `ubuntu-drivers list-oem` lists the meta-package on the
relevant hardware
   2. Test that fully installing the meta-package (upgrading to the OEM archive
if relevant) works properly on the hardware
   3. Do an offline install. Boot the system. Run update-manager. Check that an
upgrade to the OEM package is offered and that it completes successfully and
the hardware works properly.

  [Regression Potential]

Most potential regressions will live in the package set that will be
installed via dependency of this package, which live in OEM archive
(outside of Ubuntu) and control by OEM team. OEM team and other
corresponding team need take responsibility of those dependency
  installed.

[When switching kernel flavour] Check that the new kernel flavour works
  on the target platform.

  [Availability]
This is a meta package for https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MIRTeam/Exceptions/OEM
that means the package doesn't exist in Debian or Ubuntu archive yet.
The source code of the oem-sutton.newell-cahya-meta for focal:
  git clone -b newell.cahya-focal-ubuntu
https://git.launchpad.net/~oem-solutions-engineers/pc-enablement/+git/oem-sutton-projects-meta

  [Rationale]
We want to improve the hardware support for some Lenovo platforms.

  [Security]
  No CVE/known security issue.

  [Quality assurance]
I have used ppa:oem-solutions-engineers/oem-projects-meta to check this
package on some Lenovo platforms.
oem-sutton.newell-cahya-meta will be upgraded to 20.04ubuntu1 or the later
version from OEM archive.

  [Dependencies]
  It only depends on ubuntu-oem-keyring.

  [Standards compliance]
This package should have met all requirements of
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MIRTeam/Exceptions/OEM.

  [Maintenance]
Canonical OEM Enablement Team will take care of the maintenance.

  [Background information]
  Please check https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MIRTeam/Exceptions/OEM for details.

Please use "oem-metapackage-mir-check" in lp:ubuntu-archive-tools to
verify this MIR against the reference package in the archive.

./pci:00/:00:14.0/usb1/1-4/power/wakeup disabled
./pci:00/:00:14.0/usb2/power/wakeup disabled

did not work.

Also, when I enabled ./pci:00/:00:14.0/usb1/power/wakeup,
the system instantly wokeup without any interaction after suspend,
(maybe another bug... ?)

I tried enabling one-by-one,
none of them worked.

[Bug 1974254] Re: Probles with Clutter

2022-05-22 Thread C. Jeffery Small
Tim, I followed your advice and yes, that fixed most of the problems I
was having. Apparently there was a system update that required a
reboot, but there was an error and it just said all updates applied.
This has occurred on the past couple of updates that didn't have too
many changes, but something clearly got screwed up. I should have done
this reboot myself, but I've become too comfortable believing the
package manager. I won't make that mistake again. So that appears to
resolve the issue. Thanks to you and Erich for your feedback.

[Bug 1975444] Re: mt7921e wifi fails to resume after suspend

2022-05-22 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a

about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on
Libera.chat.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1975444/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1975445] [NEW] Crash back to login screen when connecting external monitor in 22.04 LTS

2022-05-22 Thread Bo-Hai Li
Public bug reported:

I upgraded my Ubuntu 20.04 LTS to 22.04 LTS using do-release-upgrade -d command
on 2022/05/20
And then my external monitor, who worked well before on 20.04 LTS, was never
able to connect.
Everytime I try to connect it, set Joint Displays and press apply on the
setting panel, the system crashes and goes back to login screen.
When I switch to Windows on the same computer, external monitor is able to
connect. Bug only appears on the new 22.04 LTS.

[Bug 1969577] Re: Small icons in app grid of Activities Overview

2022-05-22 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Yes we know it's not fixed for everyone. That's why the bug is still
open here and upstream in https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-
shell/-/issues/2173

If however the original OP is satisfied with the changes in 42.1 then
this bug should close and the remaining issues only tracked in the
upstream bug that's still open.

[Bug 1970228] Re: Multiple vulnerabilities in Bionic, Focal and Jammy

2022-05-22 Thread Alex Murray
Thanks for the updated patches - they look a lot better. Note, one thing
we try and do is to add references to the patch files to indicate where
they came from as per https://dep-team.pages.debian.net/deps/dep3/ - as
an example see the update in
http://launchpadlibrarian.net/596090586/subversion_1.14.1-3_1.14.1-3ubuntu0.1.diff.gz
which shows these headers included in the new debian/patches/CVE-
XXX.patch files which got added as part of that update.

Including these also makes it a lot easier for reviewers to ensure that
the changes are 'official' and match what the upstream.

Also the debian/changelog entry is a bit terse compared to what we
normally would do - as an example please see step 3 at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SecurityTeam/UpdatePreparation#Update_the_packaging

However, in this case as you have already put a lot of work into these,
I am happy to go with them as they are (although I am replacing the
patches with the ones with dep-3 headers from the impish update linked
above so we can keep as much attribution etc as possible). I will
sponsor these later today/tomorrow.

Thanks again.

2022-05-22 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Bogdan, please don't reopen other people's bugs. We need bugs to be
owned by an original reporter and if that original reporter is no longer
answering questions then the bug should close.

That said, this conversation didn't end with a question. We need Matthew
to try installing the Nvidia driver instead.

I will also remove the mutter task here since nouveau bugs live almost
entirely in the kernel (if not Mesa).

** No longer affects: mutter (Ubuntu)

[Bug 1811538] [NEW] [2 new] Expansion: add U+2103 DEGREE CELSIUS and U+2109 DEGREE FAHRENHEIT

2022-05-22 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Ubuntu lacks the two characters U+2103 DEGREE CELSIUS and U+2109 DEGREE
FAHRENHEIT.

Bugs #1319543 and #736613 are about Ubuntu mono lacking these
characters, but the non-mono font lacks them too.

This is not often obvious, as on Ubuntu a fallback font is used. However
it's not ideal since the C/F is obviously not in the Ubuntu typeface and
the degrees symbol not the same size as in the Ubuntu font.

Presumably in order to be compatible with mono fonts where the degree
symbol would otherwise take up too much space, some apps are using these
characters instead of the separate degrees and F/C characters. For
example, gnome-weather, the weather-in-clock gnome-shell extension, and
the weather in the dropdown calendar in gnome-shell all use it (see
attached screenshot). When I first set up my computer I had box
characters instead in these places, because I only had set up Ubuntu
fonts and did not have any fallback fonts with these characters. Now
that I've installed more fonts it is better, but obviously not ideal.

I imagine it ought to be easier to fix this issue in the regular font
than in the monospaced font, since fixed-width is not a requirement and
so one can presumably just have it render the same as if the degrees and
C/F characters were typed separately.

[Bug 1860251] [NEW] Ubuntu Mono is too small

2022-05-22 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

EDIT: I don't believe this is as strongly related to px sizes or hidpi
as I first suggested, but a more general issue.

Many applications expect the user to configure font sizes in px units.
For example, PyCharm, VSCode. In a hidpi screen (3000x2000) using 2x
scaling factor, Ubuntu Mono looks considerably smaller than other
popular monospaced fonts at the same px size. This is not only a problem
of setting a different pixel size when one wants to use Ubuntu Mono but
a much worse issue: complex applications often use heuristics to set
font sizes of different elements of the GUI according to the base size
set for the main font and having to scale Ubuntu Mono to px sizes larger
than the usual ones distorts the size of other GUI elements to the point
of ugliness or even unusability.

For example: https://github.com/microsoft/vscode/issues/88916, but I
have many similar problems with PyCharm also.

[Bug 1975381] Re: firewall gets disabled

2022-05-22 Thread Alex Murray
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately we can't fix it, because your description
didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read 'How
to report bugs effectively'
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.
We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures. At a minimum, we need: 1.
the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem, 2. the behavior you expected, and 3. the behavior you actually
encountered (in as much detail as possible). Thanks!

2022-05-22 Thread mai ling
deleted two attachments containing kernel logs that were literally only
netfilter LOG target which included IP addresses - you should anonymize
these in the ubuntu-bug!

also ubuntu-bug only reads dmesg ring buffer which is full of useless
netfilter logs, it should read using `journalctl -kb` instead!

[Bug 1975433] [NEW] Allow skipping one LTS release, upgrading from version N.04LTS to N+2.04LTS

2022-05-22 Thread mai ling
Public bug reported:

While I am generally happy with LTS being stable, oftentimes I find
myself in the need to upgrade one package to a more recent version.

Most of the times the version I seek is not included in backports and
instead published by individuals or orgs via ppa.

Eventually this version gets included in the second next LTS release, so
an alternative to third party sources is to perform a LTS upgrade.

But Ubuntu only supports this LTS version to immediately next LTS
release, while I have installed version N and the current version is
N+2, so I must perform two upgrades to get that newer package, thus
double the effort and time spent.

I wish Ubuntu offered even unsupported a method to skip one intermediary
LTS upgrade and allow direct LTS to LTS+2 upgrades, or find a way to
provide LTS+2 popular packages to LTS releases.

In my particular case I am struggling with a previously not reported
issue of samba that crashes; their wiki asks to reproduce on a
maintained version, while my current LTS and even the LTS+1 both ship
discontinued versions. I tried running a maintained version from a third
party ppa, but that doesn't ship a debugging package containing symbols
which are required by upstream when submiting issues. I'd like to avoid
getting dirty resorting to the ultimate solution of compiling from
source.

[Bug 1551878] Re: Package outdated

2022-05-22 Thread Boyuan Yang
Hi Michael, you filed the bug of package pytaglib being outdated.
However, your name is listed as the package maintainer as shown at
https://tracker.debian.org/pkg/pytaglib . I believe the correct move
should be packaging the new version by yourself instead of filing a bug
for it, isn't it?

If you no longer consider yourself as the package maintainer, please let
me know so that we can change package maintainer and ownership timely.
Thanks!

[Bug 1878279]

2022-05-22 Thread tinozzo123
I have the same laptop, and while on Linux 5.17 I never witnessed the touchpad
fail "randomly", I found a consistent way to make it fail: suspend the
computer, close the lid, and wake it up while the lid is closed (a way to do so
is by plugging/unplugging the charger).
Et voilà, the touchpad won't work, but it will work again by suspending the
computer another time and waking it up with the lid open.

Another thing i just tried:

I thought *maybe* this problem is because I was running a custom built
mainline kernel and the drivers GUI doesnt want to change a system with
non-original Ubuntu kernel, but I just rebooted in the standard generic
kernel and the problem persists.

[Bug 1975391] Re: Subiquity crashes if the hd contains a previous Proxmox PVE install

2022-05-22 Thread Typhoe
Hum, sorry was not using an usb stick but directly the iso mounted as a
virtual DVD (IODD 2541).

I sent the crash logs to canonical (3 or 5 times) when subiquity asked for
that, but don't know where they ended if you ask for them.
I didn't know "snap", and as the crash log was not mentioning anything, I first
tried to see the system logs and see if I could update something and relaunch
the installer.
snap refresh subiquity inded updated the installer, but it was still crashing...

If needed, I can try to reproduced the crashes tomorrow on another server, and
see if I can get logs.
If I don't use a usb stick, are the crash logs available somewhere? The network
is working and I should be able to scp them to another server.
Thanks

I want to switch back from the nvidia driver to nouveau.

In the dialog the last row lets me select the Nouveau driver, but the

There is also no message or anything that would allow me to understand,
why this is the case, and what i could do about it.

heres also the outout of ubuntu-drivers debug that I learned in anothe
bug can be important:

[Bug 1973219] Re: Update gtk4 to 4.6.3

2022-05-22 Thread Jeremy Bicha
I verified that the open and save file choosers still work well with the
Firefox & Chromium snaps with gtk4 4.6.3+ds1-0ubuntu1. I didn't see any
regressions in the portal test or in gnome-text-editor, a GTK4 app.

[Bug 1975391] Re: Subiquity crashes if the hd contains a previous Proxmox PVE install

2022-05-22 Thread Michael Hudson-Doyle
Sigh, I thought we'd fixed this. Can you attach a crash log? They should
have been saved to the USB stick you were using for the install.
