[Bug 60752] Re: Does not resume from suspend
I think that the importance of the problem should be considered high. Aiglx is an important innovation with respect to Dapper, it brings Ubuntu in direct competition with the GUIs of Mac OS or Vista. However, nobody is going to use Aiglx on the laptop if it impairs useful features such as hibernate or suspend. The problem with Aiglx and suspend has been discussed in several places, here for instance: http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=145068&page=103 but is still not solved. However, it should be solvable in principle. -- Does not resume from suspend https://launchpad.net/bugs/60752 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 220224] Re: Hibernate/Suspend doesn't work on Jaunty on HP530
Once every 8-10 suspends my Latitude E6400 freezes on recovery, Caps- Lock lights blink, then the pc switches off. Afterwards, /home does not mount, X server doesn't start, and I have to reinstall the system. It's a rather severe problem. [Bug 75581] Mathematica plugin for TeXmacs broken in Edgy
Public bug reported: Also the Mathematica plugin (as well as the Maple and Maxima plugins) is broken in Ubuntu Edgy, since the file tm_mathematica.c is missing from the distribution. The simple fix is to go to the page www.texmacs.org, download an rpm for the last version of texmacs (1.0.6.7), extract the directory plugin/mathematica and use it to substitute the plugin in /usr/share/texmacs/TeXmacs/plugins. Everything should work then (checked with Mathematica 5.2). Please correct these bugs: texmacs is extremely useful as an interface to various mathematical programs, but the user should be allowed to run the plugins seamlessly. A search on Google confirms that something of this sort is happening, the pid is not always 1984 however (but it is always 1984 on my laptop). However, it seems that a bug has not yet been posted, neither a solution has been found. The problem seems serious: truly, one has just to reboot another time; on the other hand, something is going sistematically wrong with the boot process. ** Affects: malone (upstream) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed ** Affects: Ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed ** Also affects: Ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- boot process interrupted by "could not kill pid 1984" https://launchpad.net/bugs/81395 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I forgot to say that before that screenshot there is a filesystem check, which usually ends with "The filesystem is clean [ok]". This is also mentioned in some of the Google hits. It's not so easy to take a screenshot while the filesystem check is going on because when it ends the screen is refreshed and you get the "hanging" screenshot above. The Google hits suggest, and I also have a feeling that, not all reboot produce this behavior, but possibly only the first boot of the day. -- boot process interrupted by "could not kill pid 1984" https://launchpad.net/bugs/81395 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 58498] Re: Can't init Maxima session within TeXmacs
Maple is not listed anymore in the session list, but a session may be opened by chosing "other" and "maple". At the beginning did'nt work for me, but then I discovered the reason: the tm_maple script does "which maple" and could not find maple because I had it installed in /usr/local/maple9.5. I fixed this by making a link to /usr/bin. So it was essentially my fault, but I am citing this because it may happen to other people too, since Maple likes to install itself in that kind of locations. Actually, that was also the reason of Maple not appearing in the session list (in Feisty it was found anyway, probably the script looked explicitly in /usr/local/maple9.5, it would be good to have it still working that way). The other problem, cited in https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/texmacs/+bug/73393, has been fixed in Gutsy, the needed file is now in src.9. So things are working now with Maple, it just has to be discoverable by the command "which maple", which is reasonable. -- Can't init Maxima session within TeXmacs https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/58498 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 58498] Re: Can't init Maxima session within TeXmacs
There should be an ubuntu maintainer for texmacs and related packages, such as the scripts for the various sessions. I am not competent to do that, although I am a texmacs user and try to find workarounds for the problems I encounter. Texmacs should be of special interest to this group: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuScience By the way, pressure from the Ubuntu community could help texmacs to reach the degree of user-friendliness that would prompt its larger adoption. Texmacs is a great program which is kept at 80% of its possibilities: it's one of the few technical innovations around, and it's really great (almost unique) to work with, but there are also some stumbling blocks that the developers have been underestimating for years, such as perfecting the session scripts, improving the graphical interface, bibliography management, styles availability, latex compatibility (although this one is not bad already), documentation. With some effort in these directions (which with some reason the developers expect should be done in part by the community) it would see much larger adoption, without it it's doomed to interest only a small niche of users (also considering that the physical-mathematical community is not large in itself). There are also sinergies which are not exploited: a carefully tuned and well documented texmacs+scipy package could be a professional alternative to Matlab (it is harder to produce a professional alternative to Maple or Mathematica since there are no open-source project at the same level of perfection - I have not tried mathemagix yet but it seems to be in an early stage of development - and probably is draining resources away from texmacs). -- Can't init Maxima session within TeXmacs https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/58498 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

If I select a couple of windows and group/tab them, all other compiz effects slow down incredibly, and the desktop becomes unusable. Curiosly, the effect is reversible: after ungrouping/untabbing the windows things turn back normal. By the way, the group/tab plugin is a really useful one, it would be nice to have it functioning. $ dpkg -l compiz* ii compiz 1:0.6.0+git200 OpenGL window and compositing manager ii compiz-core1:0.6.0+git200 OpenGL window and compositing manager ii compiz-fusion- 0.5.2+git20070 Collection of extra plugins from OpenComposi ii compiz-fusion- 0.5.2+git20070 Collection of plugins from OpenCompositing f ii compiz-gnome 1:0.6.0+git200 OpenGL window and compositing manager - GNOM ii compiz-plugins 1:0.6.0+git200 OpenGL window and compositing manager - plug ii compizconfig-s 0.5.2+git20070 Compiz configuration settings manager ** Affects: compiz (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- group plugin slows down everything https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/163127 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 58498] Re: Can't init Maxima session within TeXmacs

The minor problem with the gnuplot interface instead is again the fault of the infamous sh/bash problem, just change sh with bash in the appropriate place and everything works well, see also https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/texmacs/+bug/58498. -- Maple interface broken in Ubuntu Edgy https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/73393 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 152264] Re: Compiz: gksu windows linger
I experience a similar bug, but worse: the whole gksu window instead of disappearing becomes white. I use Compiz and Emerald on Gutsy with a 915 Intel graphic card and the intel driver. The same problem was signalled here, with a different card: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=626719 I also had some time the same behavior as described in the first comments, and this too has been noticed before, see for instance here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=514899 It is very annoying because gksu is often used, for instance when running Synaptic. ** Attachment added: "white window after using gksu" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/10773987/Screenshot.png -- Compiz: gksu windows linger https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/152264 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Maxima plugin is still broken in Gutsy: now the message is "plug-in 'maxima' not declared". Maple is not even shown in the session list anymore, although I have it installed.
