[Bug 930634] Re: guestmount does not work, libguestfs-test-tool test is not ok

2012-02-13 Thread Fred van Zwieten
OK, I have been working with hillu, who does upstream febootstrap for
Debian. We have found out why this happens. Somehow packages get
selected twice during procssing and building the hostfiles file.
febootstrap has been patched for this and will make the list of packages
unique. This does not solve the root cuase, because we don' t know why
apt returns dups.

hillu has pushed a working febootstrap 3.12-2 to Debian/unstable last
night. Would be great if that would be pushed into precise.

Just did a daily update/upgrade/reboot cycle and I cannot reproduce
(yet). I am not using the ppa. My chromium version is 10.0.648.205

It seems to work, but since i'm not sure how I got into the situation, i
hesitate to close this.

What do you mean "allow". Why should an app "allow" it. It's clearly
possible to have multiple gterm's. Just build it into the launcher, I
would say.

[Bug 761430] [NEW] titlebar buttons chromium gone in full screen mode

2011-04-14 Thread Fred van Zwieten
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: unity

With the chromium browser maximized, the buttons for close, minimize,
restore are gone. other apps (e.g. gterm) don't do that. Also, when
hovering over the app name "Chromium Web Browser" in the top bar, it
removes part of the name to make place for the menu. Chromium doesn't
have a menu, so that looks a bit silly

[Bug 734777] Re: "cannot acquire state change lock" problems

2011-03-15 Thread Fred van Zwieten
No, it's also with a WindowsXP client.

I do have some additional observations. When I do a force off when the
guest is running, it works (but is hardly diserable). Reboot works, Just
shutdown not. After shutdown, the guest is in a state that nothing
works, including forced off.

Is it possible to have a testing ppa available with the version that has
a supposed fix in it (afaik 0.8.3-5).

[Bug 734777] [NEW] "cannot acquire state change lock" problems

2011-03-14 Thread Fred van Zwieten
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: libvirt-bin

When I shutdown a guest (tried with both WinXP and RHEL6, tried with
"shutdown" from virsh and virtmanager and from within guest"), at the
point the client has shutdown ("Halting System..." in RHEL6 terms) the
state keeps being "running". Also, the guest processes are still there,
but I can't kill them. Then, whatever I try to do with those guests, I
must wait for minimal 1 minute after I get ""Timed out during operation:
cannot acquire state change lock".

[Bug 633485] Re: fan always run

2010-10-04 Thread Fred van Zwieten
Let me add some extra info on this for others searching the bug
database. Because we are now on 2.6.35 we have rudimentary power
management for ATI cards using the open source xorg ati driver. See
http://wiki.x.org/wiki/RadeonFeature at the end. I have changed the
profile from "default" to "low" and have a quiet laptop again.

[Bug 633485] Re: fan always run

2010-10-01 Thread Fred van Zwieten
OK, found the problem. I have an ati card in my laptop. If you don't
install the closed source driver, you do not have power management, so
the gpu is running full speed and get's hot, resulting in the fan
"problem". Too bad plymouth doesn't handle flglx too well, but I can
live with that. I change status to invalid

[Bug 593612] [NEW] language-selector settings give mixed results

2010-06-14 Thread Fred van Zwieten
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: language-selector

I have setup my Lucid system for english language and dutch text
settings. To my surprise some apps start up in the dutch language. (ie

to download dutch language files, but I didn ask for dutch language
files, only dutch text settings.

I did this test on my notebook, a Compaq nx7400. The state reported is
always "open". So also when the lid is closed. It doesn't matter is I'm
on power or battery. I'm running an up-to-date x86_64 Lucid. Manual
suspend works. So my problem is clearly caused by a state change not
happening. This is a clear regression, because it worked with 9.10.
There has been similar problems in the past though.

[Bug 554459] [NEW] notifier applet shows message too long

2010-04-03 Thread Fred van Zwieten
Public bug reported:

When my laptop resumes from suspend I see a notification that my
wireless connection if gone and I am now offline. That is a rather
unneeded message imho, because the state change happened during suspend
and not during resume. This is not my problem though, just an annoyance.
What _is_ the problem is this message is being displayed too long,
because almost immediately after showing this message, my wireless
reconnects. This state change is queued for notification, but the
disconnect message is still showing. This means the message says my
wireless is disconnected, but the status icons says its connected! This
is clearly wrong! When a condition occurs that makes notifications in
the queue or being shown obsolete, these notifications should be removed
immediately.

[Bug 44058] Re: suspend when closing laptop lid doesn't work

2010-04-03 Thread Fred van Zwieten
I am on Lucid updated until today and I have this issue back again also.
I have a Compaq nx7400. Suspend/Resume works from the menu, but the lid
switch state change is probably not detected.

[Bug 44058] Re: suspend when closing laptop lid doesn't work

2009-05-24 Thread Fred van Zwieten
Oke, I might have a hint for this. Manual suspend works for me and
suspend by closing the lid sometimes... The state as reported through
darylb's procedure, stays "Open", even if the lid is closed. Now, if it
doesn't work, I switch to battery power by pulling the plug. Then, lid
close detection works again and so does suspend. To much of my own
surprise it keeps working when I switch to AC power again. The action
for lid close is to suspend when on Battery or AC power.

Same on HP nx7400 laptop. I'm running the latest BIOS version and it's
still there. I've been running openSUSE 10.3 on this machine and it
doesn't have this problem, but it did have other sorts of problems in
this area, which they fixed with a kernel patch. See

[Bug 139187] Re: kubuntu refuses to suspend on lid close

2007-11-18 Thread Fred van Zwieten
OK, i've done some more investigation into this problem. Iḿ pretty sure
it's a hal / acpi / kernel sort of issue. Why?

1. kde-guidance and kpowersave both suffer from this, indicating it's coming
from somewhere deeper.
2. lshal -m gives completely nothing on lid close and lid open
3. acpi_listen gives completely nothing on lid close and lid open
4. I've done this: "while true; do date; cat /proc/acpi/button/lid/LID/*; sleep
1; done" This reports the lid state every second. It reports the lid as being
open, even when itś closed.

So, how can I get the attention of the hal / acpi / kernel guys in
ubuntu for this?

Ie being doing beta testing on openSUSE 10.3 as well. There, I also had
problems with this, but it was more intermittent. See
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=326814

Here, it ended up as a kernel patch which indeed solved it for me. Could
this be the same thing?

[Bug 139187] kubuntu refuses to suspend on lid close

2007-09-12 Thread Fred van Zwieten
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kde-guidance-powermanager

Running up-to-date gutsy tribe 5. I selected to suspend on lid close,
but it doesn't. The screen blanks on lid close and comes back on lid
open. I think it has something to do with the "laptop mode" not being
enabled. It complaines about that in my acpi.log. My laptop is a HP
Compaq NX7400.

[Bug 139093] Cannot dail-out using kppp in gutsy

2007-09-12 Thread Fred van Zwieten
Public bug reported:

I'm using my gsm/pda to dail-out thru gprs. I'm on kubuntu so I use
kppp. It does connect, but then it times out waiting for a response from
the server. I have set the pppd timeout value to max (60 sec), but that
did not help much. It works on Feisty (i'm typing this on Feisty thru
the dial-up connection). kppp offered me to restart pppd and run it in
debug mode. I did this and I will attach the debug output.
