[Bug 511760] [NEW] Japanese katakana middle dot (・) position is wrong in FreeSans font at poin ts 9-12

2010-01-23 Thread Geoffrey Perez
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ttf-freefont

I'm running Karmic, and have the ttf-freefont package (version
20090104-2) installed. The Japanese katakana middle dot (・) is off
center, to the left, when using the FreeSans font. This makes strings of
text that contain this glyph, such as マ・ジ・ヤ・バ (a Japanese song I have
playing in Rhythmbox), look pretty weird where FreeSans is used. As ttf-
freefont is a dependency of ubuntu-desktop, this bug shows on default
installations. This bug only occurs at point sizes 9 through 12.

[Bug 482202] [NEW] [unmet dependencies] glife requires libgtk1.2, which was removed from karmic

2009-11-13 Thread Geoffrey Perez
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: glife

glife depends on libgtk1.2, which was removed from karmic. Since that
package will never be added back, please remove glife or have upstream
rewrite glife so it doesn't depend on the missing package, if possible.

[Bug 298451] [NEW] blank screen on Radeon 9600 eMac w/ Gutsy and higher

2008-11-15 Thread Geoffrey Perez
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-radeon

Currently, I'm on Intrepid, but this issue has been a problem since
Gutsy. My eMac (2005, 1.42 GHz PowerPC Radeon 9600) does not work with
the ati/radeon drivers. At login there is a sound, but the screen just
shows up blank. I had to resort to using the fbdev driver to see
anything. My Xorg.0.log from the attempt is attached.

[Bug 298451] Re: blank screen on Radeon 9600 eMac w/ Gutsy and higher

2008-11-15 Thread Geoffrey Perez
I would think that this bug is related to bug #153599, but the poster
had a different model eMac, with a Radeon 9200.

(On a different note, running glxgears with fbdev on the eMac results in
the gears shown as blue and purple. I should file a separate bug report
for that.)

2008-11-15 Thread Geoffrey Perez
Oh, I'm using the built-in CRT by the way. I don't have a way to connect
an external monitor since I need an adapter from Apple for that. The
AppleCare just that was in effect ran out around August; I believe all
eMacs are now discontinued by Apple.

[Bug 110205] Re: PS3: Ubuntu eject disk automatically

2008-11-10 Thread Geoffrey Perez
Note that the hypervisor is designed to eject commercial encrypted DVDs
and Blu-ray discs for security purposes. That is, Sony wants you to use
only their Game OS for multimedia and games! I'm sure you already knew
this, right?

However, if it was a simple install disc that caused the ejection, then
it might be a false positive on the part of the hypervisor. I wonder if
this bug report is enough to get the necessary attention (isn't that
what bug reports are supposed to do!), or if Sony needs to be directly
contacted as well. Sony wouldn't care at all if it was an AVI disc,
since they would rather protect their own interests (again, Game OS).

Some thoughts on this: it's funny that there are actually simple ways
around this: mount an ISO, use an external drive, or mount another
computer's drive remotely (ala MacBook Air). There's no way Sony can
force eject with these methods in place.

[Bug 58383] Re: game crashes after selecting difficulty level

2006-10-14 Thread Geoffrey Perez
Thanks smazzux, that works. There should be a warning at least saying
that it would fail without at least four non-empty directories within
the user's home directory, either on the package description or a pop-up
in the game itself. The error would likely happen on clean
installations of Ubuntu as there is nothing in the home directory by
default except for the Desktop and Examples directories. I still
consider this bug open until a decent warning can be made.

[Bug 64272] installation fails, removal fails as well

2006-10-05 Thread Geoffrey Perez
Public bug reported:

For some reason, I tried installing this. During the setting up and
configuring process, I get hit with this:

Setting up linux-igd (0.cvs20060201-1) ...
External interface not specified in /etc/default/upnpd
invoke-rc.d: initscript upnpd, action start failed.
dpkg: error processing linux-igd (--configure):
subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1
Errors were encountered while processing:
 linux-igd
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

Afterwards, I tried reinstalling, which didn't work, and then decided to
remove it completely. It won't remove itself though:

Removing linux-igd ...
External interface not specified in /etc/default/upnpd
invoke-rc.d: initscript upnpd, action stop failed.
dpkg: error processing linux-igd (--remove):
subprocess pre-removal script returned error exit status 1
External interface not specified in /etc/default/upnpd
invoke-rc.d: initscript upnpd, action start failed.
dpkg: error while cleaning up:
subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1
Errors were encountered while processing:
 linux-igd
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

Though it would be nice to see this package working, I just want to
remove it now just so I don't get the same error each time I run apt-
get/synaptic/adept whatever.

[Bug 64272] Re: installation fails, removal fails as well

2006-10-05 Thread Geoffrey Perez
Turns out I have to configure it manually to remove it as the action
stop can't stop what hasn't been started. The interfaces were
commented out by default, so I uncommented them, reinstalled, then
uninstalled. I might consider it a bug still in that removing the
package doesn't work automatically.
