I went back to konsole 20.04.0 (built from upstream sources) and still see these artifacts. [Bug 1944951] [NEW] delayed display update / konsole artifacts
Public bug reported: Since one of the recent Impish updates, konsole shows artifacts and reacts slowly. In fact, it looks like screen updates are pipelined on pixel-group granularity somehow, and the pipeline isn't drained completely: When more text goes to the terminal (e.g., I type something), existing artifacts vanish, but new ones (in the new text) appear. Unfortunately, I don't see any of the previous konsole .deb releases (e.g. 4:21.08.1-1 or 4:21.08.0-1) on the Ubuntu mirrors, so I cannot go back and simply check whether the newest konsole updates are the culprit. I'm actually not sure whether konsole is responsible at all, I originally intended to file against xorg; however, I see those artifacts in neither xterm nor gnome-terminal. Find attached a screenshot (taken with an external camera; these artifacts cannot be recorded using a screenshot tool such as imagemagick's "import") where I ran "ls" in /tmp, and cleared the terminal with ^L afterwards. The screen is still littered with remains of the "ls" output. It took a few tries to get artifacts this pronounced, though; usually they only concern small parts of the terminal. [Bug 1873400] Re: obs-studio FFMPEG VAAPI encoding fails
Ah! I wasn't aware that the -shaders variant is the non-free one. Thanks! -> This fixes my issue for the most part. OBS Studio now encodes using VAAPI, seemingly using the iHD driver. However, selecting "CQP" in the OBS GUI still leads to "rate_control: CBR" in the log. Is this a VAAPI limitation, or a possible OBS bug? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1873400 Title: obs-studio FFMPEG VAAPI encoding fails To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/obs-studio/+bug/1873400/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1873400] Re: obs-studio FFMPEG VAAPI encoding fails
Side note: OBS's error message suggests that the iHD driver only can do CQP (not CBR). However, when I set Rate Control to "CQP" in the OBS GUI, I get the *same* error message on the console saying "rate_control: CBR" (!) and "Driver does not support any RC mode compatible with selected options (supported modes: CQP)." Conclusions from this observation: 1. i965 and iHD seem to be (to a certain extent?) interchangeable for my Intel Skylake CPU. 2. i965 works with CBR. 3. The OBS GUI may not properly forward the CQP rate control setting to the encoder (possibly a separate bug).

[Bug 1871710] [NEW] WiFi hotspot with WPA/WPA2 Personal security doesn't work with Windows 10 client
Public bug reported: When I create a shared WiFi ("hotspot") in the "Connections - System Settings Module" with enabled WPA/WPA2 security, I cannot get Windows 10 clients to connect. Android 10 connects to this shared WiFi without problems. Using the "Hotspot" button behind the system-tray network icon works with Windows 10 clients (but creates an open/unencrypted WiFi). STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Go to System Settings -> Network / Connections 2. Add a new network ("+"), Connection Type: "Wi-Fi (shared)" 3. Pick an appropriate connection and SSID name (e.g. "xyz", "xyz"). Mode: "Access Point". 4. "Security" tab: Security "WPA/WPA2 Personal", pick a password. Save. 5. "Connect" to this newly created network, enabling the Wi-Fi access point. 6. Try to connect to this AP with a Windows 10 client. OBSERVED RESULT 1. When clicking on the "xyz" Wi-Fi, Windows 10 (EDU, Version 1909, Build 18363.418) asks for an eight-digit PIN instead of a password, unlike for other WiFis. It is, however, also possible to click a link below and enter the previously set AP password. 2. Windows 10's Wi-Fi dialog reports that it cannot connect to this network ("Keine Verbindung mit diesem Netzwerk möglich"). This is reproducible with different Windows 10 machines. 3. A Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact with Android 10 connects to the "xyz" AP without problems. EXPECTED RESULT Windows 10 should connect to the AP without problems, just like Android 10 does, or just as Windows 10 does to the unencrypted AP. SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Windows: Windows 10 Education, 1909, Build 18363.418 macOS: Linux: Kubuntu 20.04 KDE Plasma Version: 5.18.4 (4:5.18.4.1-0ubuntu1) KDE Frameworks Version: 5.68.0 Qt Version: 5.12.5 I haven't tried this with earlier Kubuntu versions, but got one report that this bug cannot be reproduced with Ubuntu 19.10. [Bug 1866984] Re: hibernate-disk resumes instantly
To ensure that hibernate/resume *should* work properly in a KVM environment, I reproduced the above steps with Ubuntu 19.10 Eoan Desktop (x86_64). After applying one missing step (see below), hibernate-disk successfully hibernated the machine state in /swapfile and powered off the VM; restarting kvm resumed the state as expected. The additionally necessary step to make resume work properly (hibernate- disk works with the above steps alone, but resume doesn't): -> add resume=/swapfile to the GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT string in /etc/default/grub; run update-grub -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1866984 Title: hibernate-disk resumes instantly To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/hibernate/+bug/1866984/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1826319] Re: Please upgrade cgdb to newest version (0.7.0)
This is no longer a mere feature request: cgdb 0.6.7 doesn't work properly with Ubuntu's GDB 8.2.91 (Ubuntu 19.04) or GDB 8.3 (Ubuntu 19.10) as they use colored output by default, which cgdb can only deal with starting with version 0.7.0. [Bug 1850993] Re: cgdb shows escape sequence fragments instead of colors in gdb terminal
Further investigation reveals that this is actually an upstream cgdb 0.6.7 deficiency. Newer GDBs do output coloring, which cgdb can deal with starting with version 0.7.0. In other words, when Ubuntu moved to a newer GDB version, it should also have bumped cgdb to 0.7.0 or newer. Possible workarounds: - Disable GDB colors when running cgdb: cgdb -ex 'set style enabled off' a.out (probably use a bash alias cgdb="cgdb -ex 'set style enabled off'") GDB still uses colors while it starts up, but doesn't during use. - Disable GDB colors permanently: add "set style enabled off" to ~/.gdbinit For a proper fix, Ubuntu should switch to cgdb 0.7.0 or newer. [Bug 1827508] [NEW] LibreOffice Impress: presentation mode shows black screen instead of slides
Public bug reported: With a dual-screen setup (e.g., notebook monitor plus video projector on HDMI cable), when starting a presentation in LO Impress (Slide Show -> Start from first slide, or F5), the external monitor turns black with something that looks like scrollbars to the right and bottom, while the primary monitor only shows the slide editor instead of the presenter console. Steps to reproduce: - Install libreoffice 1:6.2.2-0ubuntu2 in Ubuntu 19.04. - Attach secondary monitor / projector. Extend desktop to the right. - Start soffice, create new Impress presentation using an arbitrary template. - Press F5. Expected behavior: - LO Impress shows presenter console on primary and the first slide on secondary monitor. Actual behavior: - Slide editor on primary, black screen with scroll bars to the right and bottom on secondary monitor. Workaround: - Click around on the black area, the presentation (together with the presenter console) may show up at some point. - Or install LibreOffice 6.2.3.2 from libreoffice.org, works out of the box. [Bug 1733103] Re: DNS hostname resolution fails intermittently
Note that on my machine (clean 16.10 install, upgraded to 17.04 and later 17.10), DNS resolution already partially broke in 17.04 (involving the switch to systemd-resolve). With Ubuntu 17.04, DNS resolution was broken after suspending, moving to a different WiFi, and resuming the machine. This could be manually fixed by manually running dhclient. This does not fix the abovementioned issue, though. ** Description changed: Since upgrading to 17.10, hostname resolution (via, e.g., Firefox or the "host" command-line tool) does not work reliably anymore. Once hostname resolution fails (Firefox 57: "Hmm. We're having trouble finding that site."), manually resolving the host via "systemd-resolve" succeeds and temporarily allows Firefox to also resolve that host. After a few minutes, resolution of the same host fails again. [Bug 1654875] [NEW] Konsole font rendering: glyphs cut off vertically
Public bug reported: Depending on the text-cursor position (e.g., in vim), glyphs in a complete text line in Konsole are cut off vertically. These characters need not be fancy Unicode ones, plain ASCII suffices. Konsole font is the default one here (Oxygen Mono, 9.0), but due to my Hi-DPI display (14" with 2560x1440px) I set "Force fonts DPI" to 192 in KDE's Settings->Appearance->Font->Fonts.
