[Bug 490304] Re: [MIR] Main inclusion request for embryo

2010-01-05 Thread Jamie Bennett
Martin,

I've discuss with quite a few of upstream now and it seems if we want
edje (and its required for this cycle) then we need embryo. What can we
do to push this one through?

[Bug 488853] Re: [MIR] Main inclusion request for ecore

2010-01-05 Thread Jamie Bennett
It seems upstream are aware of these minor code problems and will fix
them eventually. As we need these packages for Lucid we either have to
push upstream by helping out with patches to get the work done in time
or relax a little in the knowledge that at least one upstream developer
is also an Ubuntu developer and is aware of the issues.

According to upstream this is absolutely essential for edje, no embryo,
no edje.

It was mentioned that embryo is small and is really only designed for
edje and as such should be treated as just a part of edje.

[Bug 490304] Re: [MIR] Main inclusion request for embryo

2009-12-21 Thread Jamie Bennett
As outlined in the original description, this package is a dependency of
netbook-launcher-efl which is part of a high priority blueprint for this
cycle. This launcher is a replacement for the clutter-based launcher
used in the normal flavour of UNE to be used on ARM (but not restricted
to ARM) based devices that do not have 3D acceleration available.

[Bug 490860] [NEW] [needs-packaging] netbook-launcher-efl

2009-12-01 Thread Jamie Bennett
Public bug reported:

This netbook-launcher mimics the 3D/Clutter version written for Ubuntu,
but instead it uses Enlightenment Foundation Libraries (EFL) to be able
to run on environments without OpenGL or hardware acceleration. Our aim
is to still provide bling, but considering limits acceptable in most
embedded/mobile systems.

URL: https://edge.launchpad.net/~launch-lite
License: GPLv3
Notes: The netbook-launcher-efl package has been produced by the OEM group of
Canonical to better serve the needs of ARM partners that do not have sufficient
resources to use the 3D clutter based netbook-launcher. It is written using the
EFL libraries and currently runs well when accelerated OpenGL is unavailable.

[Bug 488280] [NEW] [MIR] Bootchart

2009-11-25 Thread Jamie Bennett
Public bug reported:

Please consider Bootchart for inclusion in main.

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MainInclusionBootchart

The Mobile team would like to include bootchart information in our
builds up to RC to help speed up the boot process.

Bootchart has been approved for main inclusion before but was held back
when it was deemed not necessary at the time.

We only need bootchart, not any of the graphical generation tools
associated with it as that will be done on another machine.

All dependencies are already in main.

[Bug 463153] [NEW] Jockey fails to load Broadcom B43 driver in UNR live session

2009-10-29 Thread Jamie Bennett
Public bug reported:

Hardware: Dell Mini 10v
Image date: 28/10/09

Selecting the B43 driver in a UNR live session results in Jockey trying
to enable it but failing. I had an app crash the first time, the second
Jockey looked like it finished but it didn't actually enable the driver.
The third and all subsequent times Jockey reports that the driver is
enabled but again its not and no wireless access points can be found.

The STA does work.

[Bug 447886] Re: On startup Gnome Keyring asks for password in the background

2009-10-26 Thread Jamie Bennett
Jason,

I've just checked out your branch and unfortunately it still doesn't
work. This time you get to see the gnome-keyring dialog box for around a
second before the netbook UI is shown over the top of it. So it looks
like the dialog box is being obscured somewhere later in the chain.

Also, as the dialog box is in the background, it seems any subsequently
launched apps don't grab the focus. Launch the Terminal app with gnome-
keyring in the background and the cursor isn't active until you click
the Terminal window.

[Bug 458019] [NEW] Rotation support is lost when saving to xorg.conf

2009-10-22 Thread Jamie Bennett
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nvidia-settings

I have two monitors setup with with a rotation of 90 deg left. This
works fine with nvidia-settings but using the button Save to X
Configuration File produces a xorg.conf that doesn't support rotation.
This results in the next bootup both monitors working but rotated
wrongly. Go back to nvidia-settings and the Rotation Settings option
is gone.

The only way to fix this was to copy back the old xorg.conf.backup file
to xorg.conf and restart X.

I have attached the two files, xorg.conf *allows rotation support*
xorg.conf.backup *doesn't*

Oliver Grawert saw the problem but here are the instructions to
reproduce. Install with no net connection and select auto-login. When
the new install comes up join a network and enter your credentials. From
then on every boot results in a grey padlock appearing on the left hand
side of the panel waiting for you to enter your password.

[Bug 448109] Re: Cannot add to panel

2009-10-13 Thread Jamie Bennett
I'd like to see at least this applet 'locked' to the panel, i.e. no way
to remove it, now that the shutdown/reboot options have moved there.
There seems no reason why a user would want to remove the ability to
shutdown/reboot their machine.

[Bug 447886] [NEW] On startup Gnome Keyring asks for password in the background

2009-10-10 Thread Jamie Bennett
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: netbook-launcher

On starting the Netbook Remix, a grayed-out padlock is shown in the
panel, This is because Network Manager is trying to access the internet
but needs a password to proceed. There is no dialog box shown to enter
the password until you click the padlock icon.

Expected:

Password dialog box is shown on startup allowing the user to enter their
password to unlock Gnome Keyring and access the internet.

[Bug 430969] Re: Display unstable when running xterm

2009-10-06 Thread Jamie Bennett
I can reproduce this everytime with the following steps.

1) Click terminal icon from the panel
2) Type xterm in the console
3) xterm starts and video begins to flicker.

Sometimes it flicks back in for a second or so only to disappear again.
I find that if I have other applications open (firefox for instance)
then I get a continual loop of black screen-video back-black screen.

2009-09-20 Thread Jamie Bennett
Unfortunately this machine is my only day-to-day development one and I
can't afford to kill it again. This issue is definitely to do with the
add on gfx card that comes with the board as now I have installed a

offending gfx card isn't installed at the moment.

[Bug 429908] [NEW] Installed system doesn't boot with Asrock G43Twins Mobo

2009-09-15 Thread Jamie Bennett
Public bug reported:

Using a ASRock G43Twins motherboard to install Karmic Alpha 4 results in
a kernel bug being triggered. Using the alternate CD install I can
manage to install Karmic but on boot I get the same bug. Same happens
with a dist-upgrade to Karmic from Jaunty.

It looks like its caused by the i915 chipset and the call trace starts
at i915_gem_object_bind_to_gtt+0x11b/0x2a0 [i915]

Among the trace are also calls to i915_gem_init_* and i915_pci_probe.

This bug is reproducible every time.

Jaunty installs and boots but has trouble with the onboard gfx which
results in a xserver error message (cannot start xserver on display :0
as one is already present) but does start a low graphics mode server on
:1.

Using motherboard with pci-express add on card that comes with it.

Any more info just ask.

[Bug 417695] Re: ALSA/PulseAudio output connector identification wrong on Dell XPS M1330 (Karmic A3)

2009-09-04 Thread Jamie Bennett
The result of this is that the volume is _very_ low to the point that
unless you are listening carefully (or you don't have the volume up to
max) you could be mistaken into thinking that sound isn't working on
your machine.

This resulted in a good 10 minutes of head scratching and searching
launchpad for me so I'm sure it will effect a lot of users with this
hardware.

[Bug 301828] [NEW] 'Policy stopped' hangs Dell XPS M1330

2008-11-24 Thread Jamie Bennett
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: transmission

Since upgrading to Ibex, Transmission hangs my Dell XPS M1330
periodically. Sometimes it takes minutes, other times it can be a day or
so.

There is always a balloon pop-up saying something about the policy
stopping because of transmission and from there on the laptop hangs.
This is where the weird bit comes. If I press the power button, the
machine comes out of the hanging state but appears to be very slow. 30
seconds or so later the machine hangs again. Another power button press
results in the same outcome. Eventually after a few power button presses
it hangs completely. Trying to start another application whilst in this
stage makes the application hang on the 'loading ' state.

The only way to get out of this is a hard reboot.

Transmission has become unusable in this version.

[Bug 239294] Re: accidental usb disconnect doesnt unmount

2008-06-16 Thread Jamie Bennett
A sudo umount does remove the drive correctly even when the device isn't
attached and in fact it's seems this is the only way that the device can
be re-recognised.

New users aren't going to umount a device before unplugging it. Can
there be no mechanism for auto detection of this?

BTW its the same for SD cards on my laptops SD reader.

[Bug 213705] Re: (hardy) video play's slow when wireless is working on msi pr200

2008-05-05 Thread Jamie Bennett
I'm having real problems with totem also. I can get it to seg fault on
demand too by clicking the seek bar whilst the video is playing. One
click and the video goes wrong (see attachment), a few clicks results in
a seg fault every time. Video is at about 0.25 frames a second for me
and the only way to remedy this seems to be completely removing totem
and all plugin's then doing a apt-get install of everything again. Works
fine until the next reboot then it all goes wrong again.
