[Bug 558953] Re: All windows stuck in top left corner
I remember last week that I saw a metacity process when I ran ps -e. Anyhow, in some of the latest updates, the problem disappeared. The windows are now created in the right place, with borders and it is possible to move them. Also, the problem with the keep settings-dialog freezing is now gone (see my post from 2010-04-10 above). When I check today, I see that I have both compiz and metacity installed. Is that good? runing ps -eF | grep metacity gives the following output: jonas20436 20435 0 24394 11720 0 21:03 ?00:00:00 /usr/bin/metacity --replace running ps -eF | grep compiz gives the following output: jonas20435 1 0 457 512 1 21:03 ?00:00:00 /bin/sh -c /usr/bin/compiz-decorator -- All windows stuck in top left corner https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/558953 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 558953] Re: All windows stuck in top left corner
I was going to try turning on visual effects, but then it turned out that I had removed compiz while removing gnome and reinstalling ubuntu- desktop. So after installing compiz (compizconfig-settings-manager and its dependencies), I selected Appearence from the System-Preferences menu, clicked the Visual-effects tab and selected Normal. Then I got a pop-up dialog-box asking me if I wanted to keep the new settings. I clicked the keep settings-button and then that dialog and the visual settings dialog box both froze. (other applications kept working and there was no process with high CPU load). I pressed the X in the upper left corner of the keep settings dialog, after some time a new dialog appeared asking me if I wanted to force Keep settings to quit. I clicked the force quit button and both the keep settings-dialog and the visual effects dialog dissappeared. After this, the window borders appeared on all windows, it was possible to move all windows, and also the alt + function-keys started to work. -- All windows stuck in top left corner https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/558953 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 558953] [NEW] All windows stuck in top left corner
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg I have just upgraded from Ubuntu 9.10 to Ubuntu 10.04 beta 2. Then I have run apt-get dist-upgrade to get all the newest packages. All windows are created in the top left corner of the screen and are impossible to move or resize. The window borders are gone (the minimize, maximize and close buttons are not there). I have tested removing all gnome-related packages and then reinstalling ubuntu-desktop. That did not change anything. My computer is a Dell optiplex 760. [Bug 424529] [NEW] hwclock set to UTC when installing from live-CD
Public bug reported: Forgive me for filing a bug without knowing which package it belongs to. Can somebody help me? (see description below) When installing Ubuntu Karmic from the daily build desktop-iso (386) yesterday (September 3rd), the hardware clock was set to UTC. When installing Ubuntu with the live-CD in a dual-boot setup with Windows, Windows sets the hardware clock to local time, and on the next boot to ubuntu fsck of the root filesystem will fail (probably depending on which time-zone you are on) saying some a timestamp is in the future. I am guessing this may (or may not) have something to do with bug #406211 causing the time zone selection during installation to fail. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- hwclock set to UTC when installing from live-CD https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/424529 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 391084] Re: [i855] screen corruption when switching resolution
Hi, Until now I have only tested on Karmic with the Alpha2 live-CD. Today I upgraded my laptop to Karmic and updated to all the newest packages. After the upgrade the resolution of the external display changed back to 1024x768. (I had it working at 1280x1024). Changing the resolution with xrandr did not work at all any more. Nothing happens when i type, for example: xrandr --output VGA --mode 1280x1024, or some other resolution, no error message, no flickering display, just nothing. Then I opened the Gnome display settings dialog and when I unchecked Mirror displays and turned off the laptop monitor, I could change the external monitor resolution to 1280x1024. This worked fine. Then I opened the Gnome display settings dialog again and turned on the laptop monitor, with the laptop monitor and external monitor side-by- side. I was informed that the virtual resolution in xorg.conf would be changed and was then prompted to log out and in again. After restarting the computer, the X-Server and GDM stopped working completely. I only get a text mode login-prompt and nothing more. So now I can not get GDM running at all. I am not sure of if this is a new bug. Any hint of what to do next would be appreciated. I attach the Xorg.0.log and Xorg.0.log.old. After tomorrow, I will not have access to this computer again until in september. ** Attachment added: Xorg.0.log http://launchpadlibrarian.net/28875705/Xorg.0.log -- [i855] screen corruption when switching resolution https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/391084 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 391084] Re: [i855] screen corruption when switching resolution
I tested all four changes in Jaunty: 1. Visual effects: none = solves the problem 2. NoAccel: true = solves the problem 3. Tiling: false = does not help 4. DRI: false = solves the problem With the Karmic Alpha-2 live CD I only tested the first change: 1. Visual effects: none = solves the problem Do you want me to test the other three changes as well in Karmic Koala? -- [i855] screen corruption when switching resolution https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/391084 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 391084] Re: [i855] screen corruption when switching resolution
I repeated the same test with the Karmic Alpha-2 live CD and got the same result, still corrupted display when switching to 1280x1024 resolution. ** Attachment added: Xorg.0.log http://launchpadlibrarian.net/28481888/Xorg.0.log -- [i855] screen corruption when switching resolution https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/391084 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 391084] [NEW] [i855] screen corruption when switching resolution
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel Screen corruption on xrandr --output VGA --mode 1280x1024. This happens on i855GM in Jaunty. The highest resolution on the laptop monitor is 1024x768. The external monitor is detected and I can choose 1280x1024, but when I do, the display output gets corrupted. This seems to be very similar to bug #325781 [lspci] 00:00.0 Host bridge: Intel Corporation 82852/82855 GM/GME/PM/GMV Processor to I/O Controller (rev 02) 00:00.1 System peripheral: Intel Corporation 82852/82855 GM/GME/PM/GMV Processor to I/O Controller (rev 02) 00:00.3 System peripheral: Intel Corporation 82852/82855 GM/GME/PM/GMV Processor to I/O Controller (rev 02) 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 82852/855GM Integrated Graphics Device (rev 02) 00:02.1 Display controller: Intel Corporation 82852/855GM Integrated Graphics Device (rev 02) ** Affects: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- [i855] screen corruption when switching resolution https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/391084 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
